Ugh.

The dextro/levo issue is over emphasized by people.  Whereas the presence of harmful organisms is under emphasized.  A human landing on Rannoch and eating locally sourced food is probably going to have bigger issue with microorganisms that their body has no historical exposure to, rather than the difficulty in extracting nutirients.

As for the (once again, ugh) bodily fluids thing someone mentioned, yeah, taking anything foreign internally is probably a bad idea.

But I would think that anyone mature enough to consider the ramifications would realize that there's a whole lot more to a sexual relationship than traditional intercourse.  If I were paralyzed from the waist down, or lost my genitalia to a terrible accident, I would still be able to have a sexual relationship with my significant other.  It would just preclude certain specific activities with her.

A certain element of creativity is necessary.

Ruined is perhaps a little strong. But I just don't see the point in creating alien species if you're going to make them look almost entirely like humans.

To explore what is possible in everything that doesn't have to do with extremely narrow category that is aesthetics? Not that it isn't an interesting topic to explore, but IMO it is secondary to pretty much everything else. In the same way that on a smaller scale, differing human cultural customs are far more interesting than the fact that some are brown or have pronounced cheekbones or epicanthic folds.

Biology is fun to explore, and would influence the aesthetics, but until they invent a lore reason as to why quarians should or shouldn't have hair or tentacles I really don't have a strong opinion one way or another, certainly not to the point of declaring all the other interesting aspects about them "ruined" because of something that is pretty much irrelevant to especially them.

For a comparable example, I don't think turians are ruined based solely on their names that look like they were stolen from the Romans.

Honestly in ME1 quarians and krogan were the most interesting species in the game. And it still continues in ME2 and ME3. What I love about the ME3 Tuchanka mission is where we get to go into the old krogan buildings. Shows us that krogan were people, with culture, with strength and beauty. Worth saving.

Same for quarians and geth, both fascinating, both interesting and yet similar, both adapted to living in exile, self imposed or not, both outcasts and yet both are extremely strong. Quarians living nearly their whole lives in suits, yet able to compensate for it.

The fact that we could romance Tali in ME2 was just a bonus.

Honestly, I don't care what she looks like under the mask, I liked her personality and her lovely voice. I mean, looking at those concept pictures, they're not grotesque or anything, it would have taken something incredibly horrendous for me to be like "Damn, better start romancing Liara." I've played around 6 playthroughs of the trilogy and I've only romanced Tali

I noticed on the first Normandy conversation with Grunt, he says "you're soft. Asari, salarians - soft. Quarians, not so much. Turians, you have to work the knife." So I imagine quarian skin is more like drell maybe than human. Even if their features are more human, like with asari, they probably won't be completely human. I don't mind the impression we got from the epilogue slides, they could just build on that. Quarians do already have fairly un-human bodies.

(t Mcfly616) I think it was meant as in the first conversation with Grunt aboard the Normandy.

Or maybe he's referring to how their suits feel?

Just thinking about DAI, I was surprised at how... revealing the romance scenes were in comparison to Mass Effect's. I'm guessing MENext will be the same.

I wouldn't bet on it. Ever since alien sideboob, ME has kept everything pretty PG-13. Not that the plastic boobs and butts of DAI were anything to get excited about.

It's time they start making use of that mature rating in regards to romances. The whole process is a bit juvenile and the sex scene can hardly be viewed as a payoff. They're rather tame for today's market.

I do hope MENext has a more mature theme and they really get into the whole psychology of living in a universe with an endless expanse of technology and alien life. And how awesome it must be to have sex with a biotic.

Can we get some actual nudity though? That's the question.

I really doubt it, for some reason the american ratings board is more concerned about nudity than blood, gore and brains flying out. Same goes in the movies, for some reason they can't seem to grasp that seeing someone naked when you are 16+ is not really that much of a big deal. Especially in these times with the internet.

I would welcome more nudity especially in games where relationships and sex scenes are present but they need to be managed carefully. That ME2 stripper scene with Kelly was cringeworthy and why would Miranda want to have sex in the engineering?

They did show quite a lot of Liara in ME3 but it still had plenty of cringe when the other romances are concerned.

I would like to see a game that doesn't shy away from its rating because it has some nudity rather than the gorefest games that inhabit most of the M rating.

I may've missed it but DA:I didn't seem to receive complaints about nudity sex scenes. Might be a sign for ME: Next

I suspect that there will be nudity in ME: Next, based on the fact that it was fairly well received in DA: I.  Or, at the very least, not poorly received in DA: I.  The M rating didn't hurt sales, so I suspect that the envelope has been pushed successfully enough for the ME team to include it as well.

I think most people are on board with video game nudity in theory if the game has an M rating but I don't think it was particularly well executed in DAI. Dorian's butt was OK because he barely moved and well if you work out I guess your butt is firm or whatever so it didn't look too fake but when I did Cass's romance, the plastic looking boobs creeped me out. With DAI, they made so many things look realistic that the bad things like poor animations, awful hair and no body physics are really jarring. I'm not saying I want to see jiggling boobs in my video game (I'm gay I really don't) but if boobs happen to show up, I don't want them to look like the gag boobs you can buy from a joke shop and strap on.

And now I feel like I've used my yearly allowance of the word boobs.

One thing I would really like to see in a romance scene is a realistic looking kiss where the lips mash together and the head mesh animates properly or if one character had their fingers pressed into the skin of another, the mesh would deform on touch. I have no idea how feasible this might be but it is something infinitely more interesting to me than nipples for nipples sake.

Only for Mass Effect's alien nudity can I say "research purposes only" and be mostly honest.

It would involve creating some really high quality meshes and textures and adding physics to the whole area. A lot of work, probably just the head would be as much work as about a dozen characters from ME3. You can fake it a bit less convicingly but it would still involve a lot of coding and a lot of graphics work.

And just because you are gay doesn't mean you can't enjoy a pair of well crafted animations.

They've already got the Mature (17+) rating. Might as well start using it. The Witcher has the same rating and there's T&A and bush galore in that game. Not saying Mass Effect needs to take it to that level, obviously they have their own style to their own fictional universe. But Bioware is so timid about nudity that they remove nipples from the character models (or don't even bother adding them). It's really quite pathetic.

While I'm not patently opposed to the idea, I'd rather they don't do sex scenes if they are going to continue to induce a strange mixture of uncontrollable laughter and horror from the animations. I don't play RPG's for pornography anyway, you can get that elsewhere. The reason I enter the Garrusmance is not in hopeful anticipation of hawt bird arse and clawhammer shots.

If they are well done and not gratuitous fanservice, than I wouldn't object, but I don't think the romances that lacked as much T&A were worse for it (indeed, they happened to usually be better).

Yeah its just if they include that stuff we would like them to do it properly.

Exactly. I'm one of the people who would actually prefer to see platonic relationships with any species that isn't human or asari. But if they're going to do a love/sex scene, then do it right. Don't be shy.

You know I actually thought at first that relationships with aliens apart from asari are going to be platonic, after all turians have distinctly avian features even if they still do live births. And quarians with their immune systems seemed to be destined for the same.

So I wouldn't mind a relationship that is entirely intellectual. But since they did add Tali to the category of fully romancable characters I am not going to complain.

Yeah. I wasn't a fan of the alien romance floodgates bursting in ME2.

I'd say that creating high polygon character models and new animations should be one of the main points for ME:Next. Switching to a new engine on new hardware but using the old animations and models simply makes those look dated and out of place. DA: I gets a pass because it is available on the old consoles as well, but they should not do it for ME:Next
