Loved Origins and DA2 music, DAI is simply meh. Forgettable.

I also think that Carthage should be destroyed the Inquisition soundtrack is awesome.

It's largely forgettable imo. The main theme is pretty good and I like the tavern songs, but how much time are you going to spend there anyways?

The only reason why it is forgettable is because there is a damn bug that doesn't allow me to hear the music.

The soundtrack is so memorable for me I still have a special playlist named "Dragon Age Inquisition" on my phone.

Couldn't care less, I don't pay any attention to the music. AAMOF, I have the volume on the music turned down to about 50% so it is less intrusive.

Seriously? No music at all even during story missions?

"Ambient music is unrelated to banter, but works in a similar fashion. We wanted each area to have its own unique character and flavor. When you are running around the Storm Coast, or the Hinterlands, or the Hissing Wastes, the ambient sound of animals, wind, and weather evoke a living, breathing world. In order to achieve this, we chose to use music more sparingly to occasionally enhance the mood. These brief music cues of about 10-30 seconds in length will fire on average every 1-3 minutes.
 

In areas like Skyhold and Val Royeaux, apart from bards or scripted plot-specific moments, there is likewise no music, as we wanted to make these spaces feel real.

You may have heard of a workaround players are using in order to get music playing in Val Royeaux and Skyhold. The only time that music should be playing in these places is during certain cinematic scenes, conversations, or at the war table. If music is playing outside of these situations, it may actually be a bug. We are currently investigating this issue.
 

When it comes to combat, whether or not you hear music is very much dependent on the threat you are facing. Fight a nug and all you hear is the wind—and your soul chipping away for harvesting a poor, defenseless creature. Fight a dragon, and the drums and horns kick in, underlining that what you’re doing is bad ass."

First of all - I love the music but mainly the menu and main theme/finding the hold.

But onto the "Memorable" part...
I would say the music is not memorable because it's not played during battles, but that's the style and it's not quite hollywood or Blizzard for that matter. Is that good or bad? Really depends on preference IMO.

But this is pretty much ingrained into my skull, the first steps out of tristam and into the dungeon. It's not exactly the most "melodic" tune but it's certainly something I remember

I very much enjoy the tavern music. I was disappointed it was not included on the soundtrack. I am a huge fan of epic music. That song when you find Skyhold is sweet.

I have to say I was quite disappointed with the music of DAI. I remember the composer of DAII's soundtrack saying that he (she?) was rushed when making the score for that game (link). Yet even then, there were some memorable music, notably the music during the "sex" scenes. And the song by Florence and the Machine that is played during the credits. I had hoped that since DAI had a whole extra year, that the music would be much better.

 

Yet I can honestly say that none of the music I heard in DAI stood out or was memorable except for two of the Minstrel's songs (Empress of Fire and Enchanter). None of the background music, the score, stood out. The music during the sex scene didn't do anything. Some of the music that is played during the supposed "powerful" moments (like when you are crowned inquisitor, etc.) almost sound like they could be memorable, yet they just aren't. And let's not forget the end credits song, which does nothing. Compared to the Florence and the Machine song in DAII that really gave you the impression of having come to an end of a journey and that gave you chills.

 

With the DAI score or songs, there's none of that. I'll have to actually give the soundtrack a listen but a good score stands out even when being heard over sound effects, voices, or other noise.

 

The music is not "bad", it is just completely forgettable.

i agree, ive been thinking the exact same thing, the music sounds nice on its own, but its very generic and forgettable. Typical "epic" type music, which is great, dont get me wrong, but i dont feel any "power" from it in the game itself, or maybe its because it isnt well-utilized? It just seems all over the place in the game. I like listening to the "love song" it has a very sweet melody. Tbh i miss inon zur now, his music wasnt always great either, but atleast it had character. Lelianas song is so haunting and beautiful, really  capturing the essence of the elves' struggle and i liked the romance music from DA2. As i previously mentioned Dai music is weird, sometimes it will appear or disappear in the most inappropriate moments.

I feel the exact opposite to the OP. For me, DA:I's soundtrack wipes the floor with DA2's, and beats DA:O's.

The music was great... not my style, but I respect/appreciate it.

 

And I must say... the emotional, uprising feeling I felt during that transition from Haven to Skyhold was completely obliterated by Mother Giselle. But overall... it's good.

There are some tracks that captures the mood very well, especially the battle BGM during In Your Heart Shall Burn. Agony, desperation, and the way Trevor Morris uses some key rhythm / melody makes it unforgettable for me. There's also this track that plays during MP match or after you capture a Keep. It brings deja vu to me, and it's such a catchy track.

 

I do not like an overly orchestrated BGM, or tracks that contains too much sounds at the same time. I like DA:I soundtracks just fine, it's not overly crowded and noisy that it takes away from the voice-over and sound effects.

 

But then again, different people, different taste and opinions.

It's a WRPG. You can't expect much from its soundtrack save for a couple of ambient tracks here and there. That said, I personally feel as though DAI's soundtrack blows both DAO's and DAII's out of the water.

I don't know it's name but there is an ambient melody that plays while you are out on the field. It reminds me of the Aliens soundtrack. It's eery and awesome.

Holy crap. Every 1-3 minutes?? Try hours, for me. I heard music perhaps a dozen times while exploring during in my entire playthrough.

Yeah, there are some zones for me that fire music every few mins and other zones where I can go a few hours without anything.

The whole DA:I soundtrack is better than Origins. I can listen to it for ages on repeat whereas I cant really enjoy the origins music

See, I feel the opposite. I really enjoyed listening to the Origins music. Played the game constantly for like 2 years and never got tires of the music or turned it off.

 

Found the music in DA2 way too grating and intrusive.

 

I llike the music in DA:I, but apart from the tavern songe, it's so lightly ambient as to not reallly be there. I notice snippets from time to time, but they wanted the sounds of nature to form the environment, it seems, which is an interesting idea, but makes the music so secondary it kind of disappears. To be clear, I'm not talking about the tavern music. It's nice, but I don't spend that much time in bard locations. I did like the music at court.

 

The Origins music felt more unified--something that tied the game together. This mucic is good, but incidental.
