Why is the music so unmemorable and forgettable?

See, I feel the opposite. I really enjoyed listening to the Origins music. Played the game constantly for like 2 years and never got tires of the music or turned it off.

Found the music in DA2 way too grating and intrusive.

I llike the music in DA:I, but apart from the tavern songe, it's so lightly ambient as to not reallly be there. I notice snippets from time to time, but they wanted the sounds of nature to form the environment, it seems, which is an interesting idea, but makes the music so secondary it kind of disappears. To be clear, I'm not talking about the tavern music. It's nice, but I don't spend that much time in bard locations. I did like the music at court.

The Origins music felt more unified--something that tied the game together. This mucic is good, but incidental.

So you would dismiss any major tracks that were played during combat and major events? Haven, Champions of the Just, Adamant Siege and almost all Dragon fights and etc etc.

or

You really prefer creepy tones or loud noisy tunes of Origins.

The Dawn Will Come alone is amazing.

From memory:

Spoiler

Then there's the main theme, Haven, In Hushed Whispers/Alexius, dragon fight music. Not to mention the beautifully composed Tavern songs.

No I don't think it's forgettable. Perhaps it's just not your taste?

I have to say I was quite disappointed with the music of DAI. I remember the composer of DAII's soundtrack saying that he (she?) was rushed when making the score for that game (link). Yet even then, there were some memorable music, notably the music during the "sex" scenes. And the song by Florence and the Machine that is played during the credits. I had hoped that since DAI had a whole extra year, that the music would be much better.

Yet I can honestly say that none of the music I heard in DAI stood out or was memorable except for two of the Minstrel's songs (Empress of Fire and Enchanter). None of the background music, the score, stood out. The music during the sex scene didn't do anything. Some of the music that is played during the supposed "powerful" moments (like when you are crowned inquisitor, etc.) almost sound like they could be memorable, yet they just aren't. And let's not forget the end credits song, which does nothing. Compared to the Florence and the Machine song in DAII that really gave you the impression of having come to an end of a journey and that gave you chills.

With the DAI score or songs, there's none of that. I'll have to actually give the soundtrack a listen but a good score stands out even when being heard over sound effects, voices, or other noise.

The music is not "bad", it is just completely forgettable.

There's a sex scene in DA:I?? I've played it through once already as a male character who romanced Jacqueline and I didn't get that scene.

Yeah, there are some zones for me that fire music every few mins and other zones where I can go a few hours without anything.

Hunh. For me, music is so rare that I assumed music only plays once you arrive at certain places in the landscape, or when you see certain vistas, and then never repeats there. (Banter is also very rare).

Who in the blue hell is Jacqueline. If you mean Josephine, well. You're the worst boyfriend of all time.

OP you serious? I thought DA:I music is the best among the three games. Its great and it doesn't get on your nerves. I only liked 3 tracks in DAO and about 6 in DA2. In Inquisition I can listen to the whole album non-stop.

One of the best tracks I heard during my playthrough was this theme: https://www.youtube....EP7SzQw2Y#t=144

Sadly, it's not on OST and there is no tool for exporting sound files from the game (daitools export onlu chunk files, unusable atm).

It's funny, really, that something as subjective as one's taste in music can run into this many pages. I'm not going to take my Ren Fair music into a Heavy Metal venue and expect to get a great response from the audience, I expect that I'll get booed off the stage, at best, and might be dodging bottles and cups and such on the way off. All of these different genres of music exist because different people appreciate different things. One's opinion of a certain composer does not validate, nor invalidate another's taste in a composer. Even when people agree, it might be for different reasons. I absolutely love Lindsey Stirling's work, but I'm not crazy about her cover of the Dragon Age theme. She tried to stay as close as she could to it, but for me, the cello sold it, the cello is what reaches into my soul and wrings it. She did an excellent job of it, but it just doesn't have the same "feels" for me as the original.

By no means would I say that the DA:I soundtrack is in any way bad but I would agree that it is more "forgettable" than in other BW games, like e.g. DA:O or ME3 (ok, ME3 has the best OST ever IMO, so it's hard to get to that level again).

However, I am actually quite glad that in this game, the music kind of fades into the background most of the time. After all, I am spending hours just running around the maps, exploring stuff. I think if I would have to listen to a very pronounce and "in your face" soundtrack during those hours, it would get on my nerves pretty quick, even if it was good. Take Morrowind for example. I love the soundtrack of Morrowind, it's fantastic (na na na ... na na na ... na na na ... naha na na naaaa :) ) but I do remember wanting to just turn it off sometimes while strolling through the ash lands, killing my 100000th cliff racer (don't kill me for that statement please but it's true).

ME3 for example, with it's relatively short missions has much more freedom in that regard and when story missions are happening in DA:I, I thought the music was pretty good so far.

Also, I didn't think much of the main menu theme at first but if you let it run for a while it really takes off.

Also 2: The tavern songs are awesome!

Sometimes, if I try really, *really* hard, I can remember the main menu music from DA:O. About all I remember from DA2 is the Hanged Man music.

its very good in my opinion sure its different than the previous two games but that doesn't have to be a bad thing (even though I liked them too)

Agreed.

It is kind of boring and doesn't have any "oomph".

Oh excellent, I was just wondering why no one had had a pop at the music yet.
I think with this thread every aspect of the game has now been slagged off. I think i shall give you a round of a applause for ticking that last box.
