Sorry, I don't roll that way

Is Cassandra's romance somewhat similar to Ashley's romance in ME1? I felt there are some similarities between the two. I was a big fan of Ashley
Not really. She's unique. And much more religious.

Not really, but there are elements that are the same, like the topic of faith. I do like their comparison though because Mass Effect 1 Ashley was a tough badass.

I think I'll be going with Cassandra then

I think Ash's take on religion is a little thoughtless, kind of like Sera in this game. Cass is a whole other thing..

I disagree, but that's a topic for another day and thread.

You don't need to defend her. I like Ash. But she's just a casual believer who speaks a few lines about religion and doesn't care to defend it much.
Cass is a super devout holy warrior, who was the right hand of the divine. It's like comparing some random religous person to a person working at the Vatican all of their life.

That doesn't make her thoughtless on the subject, that makes her a religious person in a very different setting and time that doesn't give her much opportunity to show their religious side. There is nothing in the equivalent to a chantry in Mass effect, and beyond a few crazies or geth or indoctrinated individuals, religion doesn't play a large part in that game, which makes the comparison unfair.

There's still churches in ME actually. Cerberus actually assassinated the pope and put their own puppet there. It's in a codex. ![]()
But I digress.
There's just no comparison. Ash is just a Warrior/Soldier. Cass is like a Paladin type. Totally different.

On Earth. You really can't compare the two. Ancient Christians make all of us look like ****** poor religious folk. We're all casually religious in comparison to that setting. They are different, but you really can't call her casually religious. After everything Ashley's seen, to still believe in God in her setting shows just how much she does believe. That's strong faith.

You really like Ash..lol
Dude. All I'm saying is there are completely different tropes at work here. She isn't just some mere soldier who said she believed in God ONCE. Her whole character revolves around religion, ever since childhood. She has literally devoted herself to nothing else.

I do, but I'm also just stubborn.
And all I'm saying is that you can't compare the two and use that to call her casually religious.
It's like comparing a highschool basketball star to Michael Jordan and saying that kid sucks ass. Like... yea. If you're making that comparison. You need to scale in accordance to the setting.

No, I don't need to worry about setting. I said "trope" for a reason.. because it's an abstract. You can find the same principles at work in any setting, as long as you look at the abstract.
If anything, the only people close to Cass and the Seekers are Justicars.. if we're talking Mass Effect. Not Ashley. lol
Ashley's just the down to earth girl you meet in the military or at a softball game ![]()

That's bull, unless your barometer for a good christian is the quantity of heretics and nonbelievers slaughtered per day.

I don't know much of anything about tropes because I don't pay attention to them. But I do know that the humans have no justicars, and ashley can't be one if she wanted to, so again, you need to pay attention to the setting.

I think you should pay attention to the conversation if that's what you think I meant.

Tropes are just archetypes. Most people know or subconsciously recognize archetypes.
I'm just saying they're not the same archetype.

It's how you support your point that Ashley is "in relative terms" just as devout as Cassandra, which is just off.
Personally I enjoy Josephine, its just more romantic to me, more sweet and charming.

Devout means dedication to the cause. Doesn't necessarily mean you're a "better" christian, just that you spend more time working with it. That's your own beef there, not mine.
In other words, we're not talking about who has more faith, or who is a better Andrastian/Christian, but who is more dedicated. Obviously Cassandra seems more dedicated considering she's in a setting that allows her to show her dedication. Ashley can't show that in her setting, so there's not much point comparing to say Ashley is a casual believer. That's what I'm saying, "Cannibal Flan".

It's not about setting. All literature has common themes and archetypes. And you are mixing the types up a bit. Your turning the soldier type into a paladin type. Just because the soldier is "religious".

I honestly have no idea what you're talking about, lol. I'm not turning anything to anything, I'm separating the two.
This is why I don't deal with tropes and archetypes. They're often too general for my tastes. Not everyone needs a label.

All literature and mythology has revolved around archetypes. Entire fields of psychology devote volumes to this. It's simply human to recognize it. Not mere labeling. You can play with them and stretch the symbolism, so it's never too general either. The beauty is in the execution.
