No it wasn't.
No version of Alien3s many iterations was set on Earth.
The scripts I've seen were Aliens on a Space Station, Aliens on a Biodome in Space, And Wooden Planet filled with monks that thought Ripley and the Alien were Demonic figures.

Earth Hive of the novel series. I think was originally a continuation of Aliens, with Hicks & Newt, but later rewritten due to the third film.
I believe Fox also made a trailer lying about implying the film was set on Earth, which ofcourse added fuel to the fire when the third movie was released & totally wasn't anywhere near being on Earth.
Many people probably wish either of those two had been Alien 3. And a war on Earth between xenos & Humanity would have been pretty sweet.

An Aliens film set on a ravaged Earth could be amazing.

This is the first I've heard of this.

Was it like Highlander Endgame where they filmed a bunch of stuff only for the trailer that had nothing to do with the movie?

Edit: This is the trailer I was talking about.

Because all the magic stuff and the implication Connor and Duncan were going to team up?

Not in the movie, which in all honesty, magic stuff probably would've made Endgame less unbearable to watch.

An Aliens film set on a ravaged Earth could be amazing.

I don't think it's going to happen based upon what I've read on Wikipedia:

Joss Whedon had written an Earth-set script for Alien 5, but Sigourney Weaver was not interested in this setting, and sought to return the story to the planetoid from the first film. Weaver has remained open to a role in a fifth installment on the condition that she likes the story.[50] Before 20th Century Fox greenlit Alien vs. Predator, James Cameron had been collaborating on the plot for a fifth Alien film with another writer. Learning of Fox's plans for a crossover, he ceased work on his concept. Before he saw the film, Cameron had stated that it would "kill the validity of the franchise", and that "it was Frankenstein Meets Werewolf" – like "Universal just taking their assets and starting to play them off against each other".

As long as they want to bring back Weaver Earth probably isn't going to happen (unless she changes her mind about not being interested in the setting). I agree with you though, I think Earth would be amazing.

Yeah James Camerons response is fitting of the guy who would later make Avatar.

Literally the safest, most boring, diluted movie ever made.

After The Abyss it seems like the guy doesn't want to take risks anymore.

Id sware it was supposed to be the story where Hicks and Mute were cargo haulers and the military were trying to mind control the Xenomorph.

Books =/= Movies.

The Aliens EU has less credibility than the Star Wars EU.

Not really.

I just find it annoying people are arguing this with me.

Especially using a book that was rewritten when Alien3 did come out, and while yes, after checking, there was a plan for an Earth based Alien3. It also had all the Xenomorphs combinging into a giant Xenomorph Kaiju that destroys a quote "Blade Runner-esque New York."

Bit different than Earth Hive no?

Who is arguing I know it wasn't Alien 3 hell they wanted Alien 3 to be on a Wooden space ship at one point.

But I think Earth hive would have been better.

Yeah, worst part is that one almost got made.

Wooden Planet filled with monks that thought Ripley and the Alien were Demonic figures.

There's concept art and everything.

Yeah...

It's as Scientifically impossible as it sounds.

I just read the article and I went from hating to liking the idea.

It wasn't a literal planet, but a Satellite that was tugged farther out in space.

Ward appears to have thought everything through from Arceon, "the wooden planet", providing nourishment to having a breathable atmosphere. The ending seems like it would have been a great way for the franchise (or at least Ripley's story) to end.

Really? Even curing chestbursters with CPR? I just find the idea really lame.
In fact most the Alien 3 ideas are bad IMO.

There's just not alot I feel you can do with the concept really.
I mean compared to Predator which I feel has alot more ideas you can run with for more movies because of Predators. Aside from the Red and Black Alien conflict from the comics. I don't feel you can do much else with Alien.
I think that's why Ridley Scott has said Paradise (Prometheus' sequel) won't have any Xenomorphs in it.

If I remember the trailer right. You see the egg from the first film's trailer/cover art cracking, while one of the colonial marine themes from the second film plays, then a narrator says something like "in space no one could here you scream, but on Earth.... Everyone can hear you scream".
I really like Alien 3. The whole thing with it's developement was crazy & is about as entertaining as any film to dive in. All the scripts, everything. A confusing, sad, sometimes hilarious mess.

There is no way to save the franchise. Our beloved Xenomorph has been bastardized & trivialized beyond ridiculousness.

Please hollywood. FFS! Let the Alien saga die. It has no dignity left.

It is over...

That sounds like the Gaiman script. It was Hicks and NEWT on a space station. That script was trippin' ballz.

I admit I am a fan of Alien3

One of Goldenthal's best scores

Plus Charles Dance, Weaver and Lance Hendricksen are incredible

Am I the only one who kinda wants to see Aliens Vs Biodome... just to see Stephen Baldwin and Pauly Shore get ripped to shreds by Xenomorphs?

Play Isolation, there´s still hope.

Really, they could have expanded the mythology in the movies, instead of remaking the first one with bald thugs. One of the few things I liked from Prometheus was that they were an artificial being, a weapon. One comic from some 15 years ago had the theory they were left as an stop mechanism to other races´ expansion. They became space-able, found them, were removed as competition.

An Aliens sequel that completely ignores Alien 3 and Resurrection would be a good thing at this point. But, it's really hard to judge how it would turn out by simply looking at concept art and nothing else.

As much as he was responsible for being the creator, Ridley Scott didn't impress anyone with how his vision for Prometheus turned out and I think it's time to admit that the Alien franchise only really got great with Cameron (not that he needs a bigger ego) at the helm. I say let Cameron make the next Alien flick, since he at least knows what he's doing and is able to deliver a good film? Plus it'd keep him away from the Mary Suetopia of Avatar...
