I was pointing out the flaw in your argument. You say it makes no sense for the technologically superior side to lose, and then you admit that the other side has magic.Nobody's being confrontational. You might be getting defensive, but nobody is being confrontational. I called it a magic tree, and you respond with 'it's a MAGIC tree'.
All you did was repeat what I had already stated, as though you were correcting me on something.

You said the exact same thing I had already said (you even used the exact same label I did). Confirming what I say and repeating what I say is not pointing out the flaw in anything. That's not even illogical, that's just flat-out retarded.
I also never said it didn't make sense for the humans to lose. What I DID say was this:
One could argue that the humans losing in the first Avatar was a fluke, since nobody would have expected the magic tree.
Except none of that is the same as "the humans losing doesn't make sense".
The closest thing I said to that would be:
Unless the humans are entirely retarded, there's no logical reason they should ever lose any more conflicts with the Na'vi.
Which was plainly in the context of potential sequels, since Cameron plans on making at least 2 sequels. Now that the humans are aware the Na'vi have a magic tree, there is no logical reason that would account for the humans losing any future conflict with the Na'vi, considering how vastly superior the humans are to the Na'vi.

You've got serious reading comprehension problems, friend.
Ahh, yes.
The 'I don't have anything to say in response, so I'll just insult you in an underhanded fashion and not even acknowledge anything you write' tactic. I would give you credit, but it was also a total non-sequitur.

I clearly pointed out why your argument didn't make any sense, and your response is that I'm confirming your statement? What else am I going to say?
I said:
'vastly superior army gets outgunned and beaten by space-Native Americans and a magic tree'
You said:
It is a MAGIC space tree.
In what bizarre universe is that NOT a reaffirmation of what was already said?
"It's a magic tree."
"It's a MAGIC tree."
"... I know."

I do think Blomkamp could do a pretty good Alien film. Unlike his previous films he'll be dealing with an established setting. I do worry he might go overboard with the not too well thought out political themes when it comes to the Company... but maybe he'll try something we haven't seen with them or from him.
It will be interesting to see what happens to this film. As much as I love Sigourney & the character of Ripley, I wish she'd have allowed Alien to move on at this point. Maybe with this film she'll pass the torch on to Newt or some other character. That's what I'm hoping for.

So I haven't had a chance to see Chappie yet... But I hear the film isn't doing all that great. How are feelings coming off of that for any of you that saw it? Think Blomkamp will do well handling Alien? Think Fox will allow a film to go on without interference despite coming on the heals of Chappie & Elysium, or will Fox just be Fox turning Alien 5 into another Alien 3 cluster bomb?

Alien has been without Ripley for a good 3 movies now (AVP, AVPR, and Prometheus). I don't think Newt would even be a consideration for any part in the story, since she's kind of dead (23 year old spoiler alert).

I think what Pimpalicious was basically saying (which would have translated much better if this were a voiced conversation instead of text) is just referring to the fact that the said tree is magic, and not simply an ordinary tree:
Guy A: "The technologically advanced military got beaten by space native-americans, and a magic tree."
Guy B: "Yea but it wasn't just any ordinary tree, it was a MAGIC tree."
at least that's what I gathered from it.

The tree in Avatar is 'science' in the same way that Synthesis is 'science' in Mass Effect. Synthesis at least vaguely tries to explain how it works, the tree just takes action with no prior mention except for some poorly-done obvious foreshadowing.
What? The first expedition Jake goes on while in his new body pretty much had the two field scientists studying the reactions going on in the roots of the plant life, building up to the explanation that the entire thing is basically a neural network with which people's consciences can transfer through. Heck, the Na'Vi control the banshees they fly and direhorses they ride by connecting tendrils on the back of their heads. Love it or hate it, it's much more than what Synthesis gives us.
Anyway, regarding Alien, I kind of look forward to Blomkamp's take on it. I loathe Alien 3 and Resurrection, and there's just now way that I can see this guy making them any worse than those things, or the ridiculous AVP movies.

That's... Still just a reaffirmation of something I already said, and doesn't contribute anything to the discussion.
"The magic tree."
" No man, the tree is MAGIC."
"... I know that. As a matter of fact, I just said it."

There was originally claims that everything after Aliens will be ignored and possibly non-canon courtesy of this new film: http://www.ign.com/a...nd-resurrection.
I am now seeing claims otherwise though: http://www.cinemable...ils-70037.html

Also, whether or not that Newt is alive might not matter as her actress, Carrie Henn, did not continue to act after Aliens, she is now a teacher. Granted, they could recast the role if they decided to make the character be alive and I doubt many would notice since it has been decades.
I haven't seen Prometheus, but
I hated AVP and AVPR, I'd be perfectly fine with those two films being de-canonized.

For me, Prometheus is pretty much garbage on a silver platter. The setting looks nice, but hell if everything else is stupid and bad.
But I'd be very happy to have every other film after Aliens be de-canonized.

Neill Blomkamp himself says he isn't trying to un-canon (?) Alien 3 or Resurrection, only that his movie is a direct sequel to Aliens.

I guess it depends on whether or not Sigourney Weaver is on board. If she ends up being in the movie, then that would mean that 3 and Resurrection were nuked, since she has no story between Aliens and the other 2.

I've enjoyed all of Blomkamp's movies, so I'm expecting good things from a new Alien movie by him - providing it has a decent storyline & actors who can actually act. It has to tie in effectively and follow his style. Anything has to be better than Prometheus, tbh though. That was a big ol' dog turd.
And Sharlto Copley needs to be in it, yah.
