So I'm finally doing this quest, and holy poop on a stick it's incredibly and painfully boring! You spend large amount of time finding nobles to butter up so you can get a courts approval, and if you talk to the guards way too many times that court approval gets reduced, and so you need to find more nobles to kiss ass to... not sure on other classes, but if you're a mage you get a message indicating "With few exceptions, nobles and mages don't mix. The court eyes you with suspicion." As an inquisitor mage who is risking his live to save all of thedas must take the time to butter up the nobles to loosen up their suspicion of me.

While I'm “running” around like a headless chicken inside the great ballroom due to the fact that theirs so many locked rooms that I need to figure out how to get it open without any how-to instructions, or mark points... I realize that I know I'm playing a game that originated from Canada. Instead of feeling like an important figure of the Inquisition, and representing the inquisition to the nobles I feel as if I was just another Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer. I was just waiting for one of the guards to throw my ass out of the ballroom for being so overly ridiculous.

Hahaha. Your Inquisitor looks exactly like mine. I did the quest last night and yeah... it's just talking and running around. I ended up with 100 approval despite asking dumb questions and wandering off all the time. ^^

Sorry OP, though you have a similar premise, you're thread title doesn't compare to: Wicked Eyes and Oh Lord Just Kill Me Now

I'm glad I'm not alone.

Seriously one of the developers is really putting us on by giving us these cheesy outfits. I thought for sure that I was going to get a break from the plain PJs from Skyhold.... I had a thing coming when I accepted this quest.

I'm with you on the outfit thing and I really wish court approval wouldn't go down when you're away from everyone but other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed that quest. One of my favorites.

It gets even better. The quest rewards you with appropriate schematics so you can craft even more of those amazing uniforms! You can have that awkward feeling again, anywhere you want!

Well, not in Skyhold, but you knew that already.

My problem with the quest was that you had almost no time to explore everything. I went into the guest wing, talked with a few people, eavesdropped on others, found a coin, threw it in the pool, found a halla statue... and then the bell rang and I barely managed to get back in in time.

Yes, I accidently solved Morrigan's puzzle and cleared out the chests and I had blackmail material on Briala and Gaspard... but the conversation in the end was so meh, I never even mentioned Briala and now Celene rules alone. Not that it matters, in the end Orlais is not going to help you anyway. -.-

Quests like these force you to save scum or read walkthroughs and I don't think that's good design.

Darling, if you're "kissing ass" to the nobles, you're playing the game wrong. I can't exactly fault you if your first instinct to get people to like you is to be a pathetic yes-man, that's up to you, but I can find fault in someone who complains about "figuring out how to open locked rooms without any how-to instructions or marker points". I had no idea anyone could struggle with something so simple, do you really need your hand held?

It isn't difficult my dear, unless you're awful at the game (both games) you shouldn't lose too much court approval while you're away from the party. Its ridiculously easy to maintain high approval during this mission if you're not wasting time or being yourself. Honestly, we can't have nice things because people like you who want to dumb things down to their level. The rest of the game is hacking and slashing, you can endure one mission that requires a little thought, yes?

I admit I wasn't the biggest fan of this quest the first time I did it, but the second time it felt better as I actually knew what I was doing. The first time it's just... confusing, I guess is the word? And with that court approval thing going down any time you try to explore outside the main areas... Grrr.

I rather liked it it breaks up the usual kill everything between X -> Y that most RPG's toss out at you for quests. The timer add a bit of "tensions" to what is a leisurely little mission.

My gripe is that you have to swap back into your armor and weapons when as y0ur companions show they are perfectly capable of doing that for you. Ideally, i'd have rather they didn't let you swap back minto your armor (where is that being kept) and you had to make do with your fancy duds and maybe a masks (althought hose masks constitue about 70% of the best non-crafted helmets in the game.

Fantastic quest. The implementation could have been better in a lot of ways, but I really enjoyed it.

The formal wear was pretty nasty, though. I couldn't take Vivienne in good conscience, knowing what she'd be forced to wear.

I agree. It was the most boring main mission in the series. 3 Fetch quests, a stupid timer with the court approval and how the hell did the Inquisitor keep changing clothes so fast and getting rid off all that blood? You'd think the so-called smart and clever Orlesian nobles would notice.

I thought you were joking when you said that, but you're not. Why on earth would I waste valuable resource to make these ridiculous uniforms? I can only think of one thing I can use this clothing for... against Corypheus... He would laugh himself to death. I wouldn't have to cast a single magic spell.. He would go down from laughter.

It's poast like this that makes me want to replay dragon age Orgins again, and this time side with Loghain Mac Tir. He was right all along regarding to his harsh feelings about the Orlesians.

I like this quest though I hated that I had to be all the diplomatic with everyone, cause I hate it in the real life, and both me as a person and the inquisitor as a character had to do what we didn't want to do, and this actually made this quest super realistic, I liked how this game is not only fighting but doing some stuff that the person who rules such an organization simply has to do.

That quest screwed up my game. Can't progress. apparantly there is to be some cutscene with the harlequin on the balcony. Hard to progress when that one doesn't kick in. Tried everything 5 times. My Court approval is down to almost zero.

Oh. I think I can help you with that. If a mage is with you and using a possession spell, there is a chance u are creating immortal NPCs from enemies u are supposed to kill.

While an enemy is possessed and u leave the floor ( going to the second floor or ground floor) possesed enemy becomes patroling non killable IMMORTAL NPCs u CANNOT interact with. It happens throughout the whole game but this is the only place where becomes obvious and sadly game breaking.

The only solution is to restart the whole chapter unfortunately and disable that spell, actually 2 spells for good.

It is a known bug. It happened with me 2x. Easy check: there should not be ANYBODY in that area. If there are some guards patroling, they are the ones u created. Sorry man.

I would not say it's completely boring, but I can see where you are coming from.  I mean, I liked it personally, but I find it odd that people point to this quest as one of the better role playing moments in this game.  For one thing, the dance scene.  You have to keep picking the middle option or the court approval will go down and you get chucked out.  To me, it's not good role playing if you can't pick the conversation options that you most think your character would choose.  That's what annoyed me the most about it.

Lacking the walk toggle option on the PC totally killed the mood. I could come to like the quest (I mean it has good points) but unlike Adamant, it feels like it's just there to power through.

Unless you read TME, the three possible contenders for the throne don't mean anything to the player other than some choice you have to pick because the game told you to.

The quest doesn't give you the freedom to explore. You're too paranoid of getting thrown out due to the low courts approval that you must rush to complete the quest. You would think Bioware would grant us the privilege to have more freedom using some creative ways to enjoy the party yet allow to take on a more serious matters of what was going on at the time. I couldn't get my courts approval past 85. I wanted to have the option to ask the other nobles (women in particular, since my character is male) if they wanted to dance in order to raise up my court approval.

That was one of the only really good main story quests in the game.  Though it would have been a lot better if you could have chosen not to care about "the game," but you get a Game Over screen if you don't play it.  It also would have been a lot better without the timer and the combat.

I did check that bit several times. It isn't the case. I have Vivienne with me, and none of her spells really do anything like that to my enemies. I have restarted using different spells too. Nothing. Even if I should be able to get it to work, eventually, that escapade utterly ruins my court approval anyway, due to time dragging out.

My problems with this mission:

  1. The timer. Timed missions in and of themselves aren't bad. Annoying, but not bad. Exploration missions are not bad. A timed, exploration mission is however, a bad idea that's flawed from the outset. It requires you to constantly run in and out of the main areas to avoid massive point drops, even if you can get a lot of them back during the dance.
  2. A hard "right way, wrong way" cap. There is literally no wiggle room as to how you can execute this mission. You have to play along with their game, do all the right answers (or questions, really) or you fail. While it's accurate to the culture, it's really stifling in terms of both characterization and replay value. The only thing you can do differently is the final outcome, and that's a little dull.
  3. Trap options for the puzzle doors. Some of these are absolutely worthless, and given the fact there aren't enough statues to open every door, you're left with items that probably suck on a first playthrough because you didn't know beforehand that the contents behind it were useless. And even worse it's all random, so unless you've sacrificed a few goats to the RNG gods, you might still come out on the losing end even if you know which doors to pick.
  4. The asshat that put the one Halla statue on the damned rafters. Given your character handles like a truck at the best of times, a jumping platform puzzle in a timed area just does not work for all kinds of reasons. Seriously. Stop it.
