The only thing keeping me from starting an elf character is the knowledge that I can romance Solas if I do. I fear his romance is another Thane/Shepard romance, that is naught but misery and tears. The ending pretty much confirms it, I think, and it may get worse. BioWare loves to dish out misery.

Delicious, delightful misery and tears of pure crystal.

And a promise to meet beyond the ocean Fade.

Let yourself wallow in glorious despair.

I was thinking the same thing, but at least Solas seems to have an actual romantic, interesting story arc that someone thought all the way through about. With Thane, they just decided to kill him off as quickly and as early as possible to get him out of the way. Then threw all the last available LI in your face immediately after like that would make up for it.

I am with this with Cullen for my fem quizzys and only my male quizzys have tried different paths(Cassandra is my fav though). I guess I'm glad I can play as a female and get someone sane and stable that doesn't have to die from an archdemon or get demon babies.

Though I have made a qunari female that is going for Sera so there is that. My "tip" is that you should try making char of a another race than elf and make her/him look awesome so awesome that you can't delete him/her.

I literally cannot play a female elf and not romance Solas. Not capable. I'm having to purposely play other genders and races in order to experience the other romances.

I wasn't even planning on romancing him baldies are not my thing but my first play through was a female elf mage and all the sudden what is happening how am I obsessed with Solas?

Someone help.

The Bald elf? HA ha! Are you people serious? He's the last LI on my list. Just made a elf for him just to see what all the fuss is about. And so far I'm not swayed.

My Elf is only using him to learn about her evlen past and nothing more.

My first PT I romanced Blackwall. It was a very nice romance, but I was eager to get through the game so I could romance Solas instead (I was hooked on his voice from his first cutscene on). My second (and latest) PT was with Solas and he's definitely going to be my canon romance for DAI (I had originally planned on my canon Inquisitor being human, too >.>).

I'm starting up a new PT for Cullen (rolling human), but we'll see if I make it through it. I think if I avoid Solas as much as possible, I may be able to complete the Cullen romance.

I am pretty much torn between solas and IB. My first pt was with IB and now my second will be with Dorian... but I will prolly have to start a 3rd one for Solas. So far he has been a bro for all of my chars.
We are both so fascinated by the history and the fade :) like to happily raging fade nerds

Solas is a intellectual dream.  I like big brains and I cannot lie.

Even when they ripe my heart out.

Solas is cool though. I do have an inquisitor already designed for his romance. Sooomedaaay.

I don't really like too much drama, in stories and in real life. As such, I prefer Cullen. I am just now running another elf, this time for Solas. Will see how that goes, but I think I will ultimately prefer my Snow Elf and her romance with Cullen.

I did one playthrough with a female elf romancing Solas (though I stopped after the breakup scene) but I don't know that I would do it again, I feel like there was something missing. He didn't seem to get very much romance content.

Didn't they actually admit that they forgot about Thane until the last minute? That fits well with what you said. And it irked me to no end that they threw the other LIs at me, especially Kaidan, who i found to be the most insipid, dickless ******* I've ever met. Personally, I was left wishing I had let him die instead of Ash after ME2, when he had the utter gall to basically say it would have been better for me to die than to let Cerberus save me. Go eff yourself with a chainsaw, Kaidan...

But yeah, they seem to do the Solas romance more justice than they did the Thane romance, but I don't do misery and tears. Full up on that in the real world, so give me the happy in my games. Having the dude I love dump me because he's a demigod, or whatever he is, is unacceptable. In the clips I saw, he really did seem to love the Inquisitor, but that doesn't detract from the misery he leaves in his wake. If a DLC fixes it (whether by letting the Inquisitor join him in whatever place he goes or by the two of them conquering the world together), then I'll do the romance. Otherwise, no thank you. I'll avoid playing an elf just so I won't give into the urge to romance him.

I actually have the opposite problem. I was excited to romance him, but I found his attitude towards the Dalish, the fact that the entire relationship is built on half-truths and omissions, and the forced drama of the break-up to be so off-putting I regret even trying. I like him much better as a friend and mentor (and the story feels absolutely as meaningful in this capacity).

If any of the love interests are going to catch me and keep me, I imagine it will be Cassandra. I really like Cullen's romance, and he's won over my canon Inquisitor, but I might be in actual love with Cassandra. If she were an f/f option, I don't think I would even think about romancing anyone else.

Soooooo... Barbie dolls are like the female form taken to the extreme, right? I feel like male qunari are the male form taken the extreme, and I just don't dig it.

I romanced Cassandra in my first playthrough. I started another playthrough where I would romance Dorian but then I realized that Dorian was bugged. Mother Giselle wouldn't start his personal quest even though I had huge amounts of approval for Dorian, talked/flirted with him constantly and was really far into the storyline (past Adamant/Winter palace). I was too far into the game to start a romance with anyone else. The lesson I've learned is that you shouldn't risk trying new romances >.<

Same here. On my first playthrough I planned to romance Blackwall, but as I talkad to Solas I started to like him more and more...So, eventually I lost 15 hours of gameplay, because I missed that one chance in the Fade. Curiously, you have only one chance to romance him. All the others, as far as I can tell, can be romanced at any time, even broken up with, so you can romance another.

Now I tried Iron Bull, and it is good and funny and somehow wrong. I can`t shake that feeling. So I reloaded and tried Cullen. Still wrong.

Same problem =)) After the second playthrough I told myself: "no more broken heart, I don't wanna feel this pain again, no more Solas". But it didn't help ))

BTW I heard this interview recently with a bioware author who wrote Iron Bull, Cole and Solas characters. He was asked if he cried when he was writing any scenes with Solas. And he said yes =) That comforted me very much. And also he told, that Solas really loves Lavellan, and that he wanted to tell her about his identity and didn't want to break up with her but he changes his mind, so knowing all this I don't think its even possible for me to play this game and romance someone but Solas =)

In fact while i find it cool that most elves have welsh accents in game , it annoys me because i get it IRL also...

 Solas, is that you? :D

Jokes aside..

I did romance Solas on 1st run too, I even thought my romance was bugged and from Adamant I did another elf female romancing him but then I realized Solas just had so little romance cut scenes so it wasn't my fault that I did something wrong before (eh, chaotic). Was suprised that so many people here became Solasmancers because before release of game I was just hearing that "bald elf is eeeew and why bald and must be boring.."

After 2 weeks I can play with clear heart another char ( currently main is female human romancing with Cullen). Also i started female dwarf (Sera), male human(Kassandra), female Quanari (IB) so I can't say I cannot play other chars with other love interests. ^^' Bah! I'm even mean to Solas as my evil quanari female XD I plan to punch him! >:3

For any female elf definitely  - just compliments the overall background story so well and there is that delicious hint of the future. Although...current playthrough I've managed to create an elf that looks like she's about 13...so maybe no romance (and I'll just pretend that she has childhood friend back at the clan...in the woods or whatever...that she has always loved). Actually I suck at RP/headcanony type thing - so suspect she will end up romacing Solas!

Have done other romances - Cullen's is very sweet. And currently Blackwall with a human female. Now, no potential offence to the solasmancers (because I love that romance arc, and he does indeed say - the inquisitior is amazing, totally changed his view on...people) - but because of the story/narrative dynamics, for me the Solas romance arc is the one where he as an LI most heavily affects the Inquisitor. Unless of course you take the breakup option (the dialog choices are f'ing hilarious in a good way in the final scene). So some sort of unquatifable romance story power dynamic is really shifted to his side.

Whereas for Blackwall, seems like it's going the path where it is the Inquisitor that more heavily affects him. He sees in her (and by extension the Inquisition) his savior/salvation etc etc. Both romances have scenes of 'no this is wrong, we/I shouldn't do this'. But it hits home harder on the Blackwall side because of his story arc.

And while Cullen leans slightly more towards the Inquisitor side -  because of his strong character ('I will not give more to the Chantry than I did the Inquisition') the dynamic is almost kind of neutral.  Not to say Blackwall doesn't have a strong character...oh you know what I mean (maybe!).

All very nicely done!
