Never played the first two, picked up this one due to how many great things I've heard. PS4 for $46 shipped was too hard to pass up.

Inital impressions: Amazing. A little confused by the story, but the codex is very, very helpful *thanks for keeping those going, Bioware*

This may be one of the nicest looking console games, ever. And when I realized you can play as anyone on your group: I was truly surprised.

First post in years........hope to see some of you online.

Have fun! Afterwards, try the other the other DA games. They are a little bit old but still very good.

Welcome back, Matt.  Which game brought you to the Bioware Forums last time?

I also hope to hear your opinions soon.  A lot of us here played through the Dragon Age and Mass Effect games.  DAI is kind of its own animal, so I do look forward to seeing an independent perspective.

Definitely pick up the previous games - they are pretty cheap these days anyway.

Hey all - thanks for the responses....as for Dragon's Age Origins - I own it on Steam, and almost installed it, but the download was pretty massive, so I hesitated. hate to say it, but I love a controller, so I may score it for the 360. Know it won't look as pretty.

I've played Mass Effect 1-3. Loved ME1. Liked ME2 and thought it was clearly more polished, and played ME3. Got caught up in the drama with that one. Ironically, I had massive issues with it at the time, felt like it was rushed, but I think time has made me chill on it, and feel like it was better than some (myself included) felt at that time.

DA: I brought me back after hearing how awesome the game is. quality is quality. I didn't play DA2, but heard of the concerns.......glad Bioware took the time on this one....and of course, will get the next ME game. Kinda hope they do stand alone titles, as I feel that the choices you make don't really affect the next game in the way I would like. Main characters becoming cameo ones in the next for example....

Wait, you've misunderstood these forums. You're supposed to hate the game and then spend an inordinate amount of time here on the forums obsessing about it.

LOL, yeah. Some things never change. I used to be a serious ME3 hater, so not above it. But in the several years since, I've discovered the secret to enjoying games more: take some forum members less seriously. That vocal minority of 1% used to really really get to me

Playing Dragon Age Origins on PC is much better because of the mods. Mods can make all the difference.

We're glad to have you! Also, glad to hear you enjoyed/are enjoying DAI!

You should absolutely play the previous two when you get some free time - just remember to go into each knowing that not a one of the three DA games plays like the others. DA:O is a bit more clunky, but the story is phenomenal. DA2 is faster paced, but the story-telling is a framed narrative, a re-telling you're getting to shape, rather then a "happening now". The protag is named and voiced - like with DAI, but Hawke is more a reluctant anti-hero then a "Successfully save/intentionally wreck the everything" type.

If you go into each game with that knowledge, you'll find yourself being able to enjoy each for what they are - Separate stories of separate people set in the same universe, during the same general time period: Aka, The Dragon Age.

If you do plan on going back, I'd normally suggest playing 2 first, but since you've started with DA:I, go with Origins. That way once you get to 2, you'll (at least I always am) be grateful for the much faster pace of the combat.

Seconded!

OP - definitely recommend getting Origins on PC - the availability of mods really adds to replay value, plus there are some mods which just improve the game play experience (like the mods expanding tactics and giving you more tactics slots).

Going into DA:O, know that it's a whole different kind of game from Dragon age Inquisition. More story driven, less sandbox. Controls are different. It's a great game though, with great atmosphere, and an engaging story. One of Bioware's finest products, for sure.

People are overhyping DA:O if you ask me.

It is a great game with amazing characters and story, but so is DA:I, if not even better. At least that's how I see it.Anyhow, I hope you enjoy DA:I as much as I have, it was an amazing experience.I also recommend you playing the previous DA games if you like this one, but I wouldn't say you are required to play them before DA:I in order to fully enjoy it.

You should check out Origins if you like this. I tried Origins after DA:I and in my experience it's a better RPG with overly tactical combat (you could just play on easy if you're not OCD like me though).

It's not nostalgia from where I cone: I played DAO after DAI. It has better characters and RPG elements of character interaction and decision making. Only downside is that the combat requires heavy use of the tactical cam and having to micro manage the entire fight, playing it like a slide show.

A word of caution, Dragon Age Origins, Dragon Age 2 and Dragon Age Inquisition are actually games that share the same lore and take place in the same realm but nothing else. All of them play very differently and I would say are in fact different games.

If you like 1, you may not like the other

While I loved Origins, I find myself liking Inquisition more. Besides Morrigan, the cast is more engaging and the gameplay is more enjoyable. Though, the main story is not that much focused, feels like Mass Effect 2 and that's not a bad thing. So yeah, Inquisition is best DA, at least for me.

Even though I am like 4 hours into the game, I find myself mostly getting used to the Battle Cam - it makes more sense now that I've had time to tinker with it. In some ways, this one reminds me of Mass Effect 1 -

Definitely will check out the other games. If this one does well, I would expect more Dragon's Age....seems like more people than not are enjoying it
