Just doing solo runs to get elemental challenges because.. why not..

So far this morning:

Soldiers blocking every Spirit blade swing whilst I was grinding spirit kills..
Soldiers blocking immolate whilst grinding fire kills.. immolate.. how the hell do you block a blast of fire emanating from below you?

During the last few weeks..
Soldiers blocking every single arrow from Leaping shot..
Soldiers blocking Explosive shot, Full draw, Energy barrage.. the list goes on and on and on..
Soldiers blocking mighty blow.. seriously.. you can somehow block a giant hammer landing on your head with a tiny little sword?

On perilous I can accept soldiers some how knowing how to block arcane attacks.. even doing some jedi bs blocking every single arrow from leaping shot.. but on routine or threatening? It got to the point where I had to knock the buggers down with a stone fist or let them burn to death because apparently the 500% damage was blocked but not the burn proc..

As I noted in the possible armour bug thread, I assume it is because players can block all these things as well.

From Demon commander insta kill teleport, to mage firerunes exploding to Red Templar goliath smashes. As long as you have stamina, the line will hold.

Which of course makes the Superb necklace of stamina, the one that gives you a whooping +50 stamina a god send that I still pray to RNGsus every time I open a large chest for. Well, that and a Caliban, and a heal on kill ring.

So, I would assume that in order to change how blocking work on NPCs, we would likely have to get something changed for players as well. It would not hurt legionares alot, since apparently they stop using shieldwall at some point in their careers, but it would ruin Templar "tanking" since it remains a stable go-to ability in most cases.

With that in mind, what do you propose be changed for NPCs and players alike to improve the situation as you see it?

Logic and common sense is what I propose..

I do not believe any player character can block any of these abilities without a shield..

If the character has a giant shield.. I can accept it's ability to block leaping shot.. not the long sword no shield grunts... and AOE.. unless you have walking fortress, there is no way to block area of effect attacks.. even legos get knocked on their ass by mage's runes and take damage..

BioWare may have unintentionally unintentionally mixed up coding between two of their games.

Why? Soldiers and Zealots block everything with just a sword because they are secretly Jedi. This also explains how they seem to "know" where my Assassin is when in Stealth, and will frequently turn to face me and deny that juicy flanking damage.

Gladiators be jelly cause they can't block Leaping Shot.

I find it so hilarious that a 1 handed sword can simultaneously block 12 arrows but a 7 ft shield cant block 1. Working as intended.

I don't personally have a problem with the way the setup is now. I understand that there was some people claiming that the NPCs can block while under a status effect such as Frozen, obviously this should be considered a bug.

If NPCs could not block our attacks, it would heavily favour the ranged classes more than it does already, which IMO isn't a good thing from a balance perspective. Not to mention the sillyness that would be Reavers Dragonraging everything with no fear.

They block melee abilities and basic attacks way more often than ranged (including those wonderful times when they block five Spirit Blade strikes or melee attacks in a row without ever going OOS...then use Payback Strike), how exactly would removing blocking be preferential to ranged? It's exactly the opposite.

Anyway I agree with the TC. The blocking is fine on the characters with huge shields but the random block spam from the extremely common single sword mooks just makes the game look unserious and stuffed with fake RNG difficulty. Blocking a lightning bolt from the sky with a steel sword? My head is sore.

Yup. Gladiators are not Jedi, so of course they cannot block 12 arrows. As you say, working as intended.
