That's definitely supported by the description in The Masked Empire of sealed rooms between Eluvian paths littered with corpses of elves that starved to death, when the Eluvians were deactivated.

Those are the 'crossroads' that I wanted to see. I think it could have made for a great creepy atmosphere. Hopefully we get to see it in future. They seem to have removed the whole feeling of disorientation that non-elves are supposed to be feel when traversing the crossroads though which is a little odd.

Did the elven and dwarven empires co-exist?

I think they coexisted somewhat peacefully. I guess it depended on the Thaig though because we know that Cadash Thaig sheltered a lot of elves fleeing after the destruction of Arlathan before the dwarves of Kal Sharok apparently slaughtered them all (the fleeing elves and the dwarves sheltering them) to not jeopardise their relation with Tevinter.

I doubt it's as simple as that. The timeline is all sorts of murky.

Oh yes, and it's just the elven pantheon that aren't nice. It's not like the Maker purportedly abandoned his creations over and over again over petty faults (once for the spirits, three times for the mortals) and refuses to answer prayers until they meet impossible standards to regain his favor. Or the Old Gods that encouraged the creation of the highly corrupt and destructive Tevinter at the height of their power, become destructive dragons that try to destroy all life when corrupted with the taint.

Big shock, the gods of this world aren't nice, no matter the pantheon.

But sure, let's ignore the faults of the human gods and throw sticks at the elven ones for the exact same thing.

. Don't forget the victimization of the Dalish, even when they aren't being contrasted or compared, merely commented on.

Damn, I fux with the elves. I think they're cool asfu. But this attitude. I get why people want the Chevaliers to destroy everything. Just for spite.

Let's not leave out the context for why Faerunner has an issue here. Given how we've either had anti-elven threads pop up, or positive elven threads hijacked by people who have nothing but disdain for the elves (and even went as far as to conspire to troll an elven group that was created because the public forums were simply too unfriendly for elven discussions), I don't think it should come as any surprise that some people are simply tired of this. It's been happening for months, even before Inquisition was released.

I just came up with something. I don't have a quote but David Gaider did mention forest spirits (ala lady of the forest) are a naturally occuring thing.

What if a greater forest spirit somehow "created" Mythal and Elgarnan? According to lore, the earth goddess created forests, animals, etc for her son, which where ultimately destroyed by the sun god.

I think it's possible that the elven gods were "created" by a fusion of spirits with mortal elves.

That is a fascinating idea. Superpowerful abominations? I mean, if Zathrian could create the Lady of the Forest, that in many ways could be considered a minor "local god", what couldn't the elves of old do?

I know that many people are using the discoveries made in DA:I to fuel more discussions, but I can't be the only one that is excited about all this. We're talking about cosmogony here, and a lot of questions need answers. Who cares if the Elven Gods were jerks? I mean, don't people read Greek or Mesopotamian mythology? I'm more interested about how they came to be, what their relationship to the Old Gods (if any) is, where they are, what they could do if they came back, etc.

Also, what the whole deal with June is. That guy is so mysterious that not even the Temple of Mythal could explain what kind of god he's supposed to be.

I agree. I was bitter for a while for the treatment and the removal of mystery for the elven gods, but this has the potential to be very interesting indeed. I'm looking forward to more.

Dirthamen and Falon Din are a strange case , in Dalish stories they were two brothers who were eventually separated by the Veil.
But in the temple of Mythal , their relationship is err...they were not lovers , they were not brothers , they were something more.
"Twin souls."I'm not sure what it's supposed to mean exactly.

It makes me wonder if a naughty god could be made Tranquil? That would separate the god's soul from his body. So maybe Falon'Din and Dirthamen started out as one Deity who was made tranquil by Mythal for bad behavior and then they became Falon'Din and Dirthamen.

Wouldn't it be ironic if the Forgotten Ones turn out to be a bit more humane

Honestly, I doubt it.  I mean, Tranquility is cured by having a spirit 'touch' a mage and the Seekers essentially go through some form of Tranquility and being cured of it, making them immune to mind domination and possession.  It's been mentioned multiple times that once a spirit/demon is joined with a mage, whether willingly or not, the connection is permanent until the death of the spirit or, more commonly, the mage.  This implies that putting them through the Rite wouldn't do anything.

Normally I'd dismiss this because from all we can gather the Forgotten Ones are the Old Gods, but honestly after DAI (and especially that post-credits scene) the lore in DA is quite open to insanely awesome twists.
