So I sketched a thing. Or two. Or five??? I have no idea really
Here's my doodle page for the past two days, thought it's relevant. excuse some of the school notes on the sides heh

Spoiler

Now I'll just head off to make an actual picture... or sit down and finish writing something about these two... yeah, I'll do that.

I love the Ugh shirt and how Varric is in love but Cassie is frustrated lol.

So, by way of bumping this thread, I thought I might post some of the better multi-chapter fanfics out there now on AO3 about V/C:

1) Rest in the Warmest Places: http://archiveofouro...hapters/6919628

It's set after the game, and there's an original plot (yay!), with Cassandra tracking down some of the Promisers. It's in progress, but is being updated regularly. A lot of the story is told via letters to and from the main characters, which I think is an unusual (albeit awesome) conceit you don't see much of anymore.

2). Her Love of the Written Word: http://archiveofouro...hapters/6923945

This is actually the most reviewed/most hit V/C piece in AO3. A very long, fluffy, well-written piece about how Varric and Cassandra develop their relationship. Surprisingly, I don't really love it, but I think my tastes are a bit different than most-I like there to be a plot and some angst, but none of that is really here. I also find Cassandra a bit OOC, but again, I think the majority of the reviewers feel differently. If you want a piece where you can say "Awwwww," at the end, this is that (so far, anyway.)

I can't wait til tomorrow afternoon so I can finally read some smutty literature. School work be damned! This weekend revolves around tethaghast, american football & beer lol.

Sorry, Zerloc, I don't know exactly what your definition of smutty is, but if it's anything like mine, those two aren't smutty. Sorry.

The first one is more plot-heavy, and while there's a relationship implied, the author hasn't really gotten around to revealing/advancing it yet. But it is pretty good, since it's post-game and the author seems to have come up with the beginnings of an interesting original story.

And the second...sigh. I dunno. I really, really want to like this since the writer is obviously very skilled, and it seems so many other people love it, but IMHO Cassandra acts like a stereotype of a virginal Catholic schoolgirl re: her attitudes toward sex, which doesn't work for me. On the other hand, if you like your fics with a lot of hand- holding, longing gazes and chaste kisses, with copious amounts of internal monologues about feelings, then you'll have no problem with it.

(If someone else who has read the second one want to refute me, please do, I'm just giving my impression.)

TLDR: don't expect smut.

Yeah, definitely non-smutty *regrettingsigh*. I agree with your criticism, rda. I somehow consider Cassandra too impatient, even with all her self-doubt. She is passionate, after all. I think, Varric definitely would be too impatient not to nudge her in the right direction, instead he is pretty passive in this fic? But I do like the story. It is really well written and I just lovelovelove the way the author decribes all the details. It's like getting really close to the characters. And I feel pretty fluffy and happy after reading it :).

Also no smut in "The Seeker and her Rogue" which is also on AO3: http://archiveofouro...hapters/6955283

A few chapters have been added since I posted the other update links.

So, I was running thru the Hinterlands at level 4. On hard mode. And I decided that I could try to take on the southern most rift in the Dwarfson Pass. Which pours out level 8 rage demons. I came close, but the party wiped, with me last.

When Cass fell I heard Varric yell "Seeker!" and then I couldn't shake the urge to come to this thread and...

... I think I may have a problem.

(But I love it.)

Funnily enough, this was just after I'd gotten the banter between them where she asks after Kirkwall's recovery and he (rather uncalled for, IMO) shuts her down about it. Headcanon says he feels pretty damned guilty about that at the moment. lol

EDIT: Also, friend showed me this fanart. I don't think its been put in the thread yet:

Yes! This!

OMG, this brings back memories. Now that there's tablets and such, you can read whatever you want, whenever you want, and nobody's the wiser, but I remember reading books like this this, clutched to my lap so nobody could see the cover, then going full-on Cassandra when anyone asked me what I was reading, "Nothing! Nothing! I'm not reading anything. Oh, this? Just a silly novel. What's it about? I don't know. Just started. (Nervous laughter). So, uh, let's talk about something else. Anything else."

I hope I haven't horribly dated myself here...

(Suspect I did...)

I still possess old printed fanzines of fan fiction for star trek from way back in the day. Quite a few, actually. I can't bring myself to toss them, even if many of the covers would (and have) get me teased. When I moved across the country, I still kept them, packed 'em up in a box and everything. And then my mother-in-law decided to help the mister and I unpack, and of course she picked that box. She's quite conservative, and some of the covers are... questionable. It was awkward. I still kept them. Cassandra would support me in that decision.

Anyway, you won't stand horribly dated alone!

It always works that way, doesn't it? There's 99 boxes that are totally safe, but unerringly someone will pick the one thing that will embarrass you. And I vaguely remember the Trek fanzines, but I didn't really get into Trek until DS9, so at least by that time, you could read fanfiction on the Net.

Those covers from that era are horrible, though. I still remember my favorite romance novel, which dealt intelligently with topics such as mental health in the 18th century, Quaker religious belief, and non-Euclidian geometry (!), had a bare-chested Fabio on the cover, holding a supermarket bouquet of flowers.

I still read it every few years and still cringe at the cover.

Hey there, I write the "Hard Being a Gentleman" fic and I have to say it's totally awesome to see you are discussing it from time to time. I truly am grateful for those of you who took the time to read it, and for all the comments, both good and bad. Most of the time, people will only review if they think it's good, so it was a nice change of pace reading what people thought was bad (how are you going to get better if people just stop reading and won't tell you why they did?)
I probably should've gotten a beta, but that actually requires one to have friends who also like to write...
Thank you! :)

OMG SQUEE lemme <3 you !! Your fic, is one of the fics that inspired me to get off my 7/10 year absence from writing Fanfiction.

Is this how the Garrus & Tali thing started? That would be hilarious!

Actually, yes..It became a thing on the old bsn forums, and then it spread into FF and Fan art..and the. Bioware is like 'the fans like it, so why the hell not?"( they didint actually say that, but that is the impression i got.)

I bet you were like, "If people are posting crap like this, why am I *not* writing?"

Seriously, though I'm kind of intimidated now. When I first started, I was like, I know how to spell, use punctuation (mostly)...I am set! This is the best Varric and Cassandra fanfic on ff.net! (Keep in mind there were like, two). And now people are posting such lovely Tethraghast fanfic I want to weep with shame.

But if you're writing now, I'd love to read more stuff about Varric and Cassandra (or whomever you happen to write about). Post a link?

Actually no, you're stuff is far from crap..mine however is..haha. My punctuation is a bit hap-hazard, I'll admit. I'm sort of writing a surana/ leliana fic right now, but I'm avoding too much description with the warden, so it can be anyones. I will have some tethragast soon.(I always write four chapters ahead of what I publish, so that means tethragast will be in chapter 4.)

Ehh, just search AWTEW on ff.net and my profile should come up, and my fic is there.

Lol since my quizzy was the main tank I can definitely relate to that quote lol. Varric wasn't my problem, it was Iron Bull. I love the big guy to death but he made me want to scream sometimes. He did make it up to me when I turned FF on for a bit and he used charging bull on Vivienne. After that he was more than welcome to drinking all the potions.

Does anyone else think that if Varric publishes his book on the Inquisition that he's implied to be writing a few times in banter, that eventually we'll have a situation where we might encounter fans in-universe who ship him and Cassandra... leading to Dorian then triumphantly announcing that he called it and wanting everyone to pay up on the side-bet they had about their obvious sexual tension?

I played on hard and I found Iron Bull nigh unusable. He, Varric (sorry bro), and Cole were perma-banned from my team since the AI does a horrible job with them. My party eventually consisted of me (DW rogue), Cass, Solas (who I hated and still hate), and Vivienne (who I hated, but eventually grew on me. She's just so delightfully b!tchy.). Sometimes when I couldn't stand Solas for another second, I subbed Sera in for him, and the banter between Sera/Cass and Sera/Viv is GOLD.

What does this have to do with Tethraghast? Nothing, sorry.
