Okay, I'm sorry for double-posting, but here's the first part of a thing I am writing. I'm sorry. Too excited rrrrr

It's 12AM here and I don't know if I will ever grammar-check this but this looks good as far as spelling goes, hahaha. It's my first time writing something like this so the fight scene may sound a little off but heyyyyyy. I'll try to follow it up with the second part soon!

Now I need to sleep cause I have to wake up at 4:30AM ew

Spoiler

I'm torn right now....part of me can't stand seeing Cassandra in pain like that but it is so well written. The blooming attraction, the angst, I love it all. I can't wait til you finish the whole time it is going to be a great read. It'll be interesting to see how Cassandra's faith in the Maker stands up to something like that.

Its hard to be a gentleman latest chapter was the best one yet. I love how the author is breathing life into the world by allowing us to see more of the other characters. It is stories like this where I find myself attached to a side character, like Vivian Hawke for this instance. The slow build up to the inevitable......choice is absolutely killing me. Now with that short insight inside the head of Hawke I'm not sure I want either her or Loghain to sacrifice themselves.

I have yet to actually search for any DA fanfiction as of yet but it doesn't surprise me that Inquisitor/Cullen & Inquisitor/Solas are so popular. The later breaks your heart & the former is backed up by the Cullenites and they're......uh yeah.

I'm trying to look around LJ for fanfiction since there's also the amazing community there, but there are so many unfilled prompts in the DA kink LJ, sadly. :c Aside from Perfectly Novel, there's another fill where they had an accidental date, but it's just one chapter in and barely anything has happened, so IDK if it's worth linking. *shrugs*

It's such a waste, though. There are so MANY good prompts on the pin board. Here's the Cass/Varric pinboard for the DA kink LJ, you guys might find them interesting.

(And being quite the Solavellan fan too, I have to say that I'm really, really really overwhelmed with the amount of smut for those two. Like, dude, we got to be the most sexually frustrated fans ever. I'm crying to myself now.)

While I'm looking around for more fics, I found a thing or two yesterday. Some of you may like it, idk. (I'm literally just posting the stuff I found that haven't been shared yet, omg. I'm kind of desperate for shipping material here.)

Sketches? Sketches!

Spoiler

Some NSFW dom!Cass sketches I found:
Spoiler

I'm sure I found more sketches, but sadly I didn't exactly reblog them in my tumblr so IDK where they are right now ;; If they come up, I'll go link them, unless someone beats me to it ;;

And have you guys read mythal-rising's drabbles? They're really great and well-written.

I might try some of those prompts.

Oh come on. You can't end it there. The angst!
And now for fanfic Monday. I think everyone updated their stories today (except for the Ghost fanfic. Grr.)
1. Rest in the Warmest Places. http://archiveofouro...hapters/7257296
2. Her Love of the Written Word. http://archiveofouro...hapters/7247027
3. Hard Being A Gentleman. https://www.fanficti...ing-A-Gentleman
Any I've missed?
I'd love to discuss any and all of them when/if people have read.

I have read all of them, And I don't really have a favorite. I like different things about them all.

Re: love of the written word, I need to ask a question
Is it just me, or is there a loooooot of description in that fic?
And on description more generally...is that regarded as a good thing or a bad thing, or just a personal taste thing? A lot of you seem pretty knowledgeable about that kind of thing (much more so than me). I find when I'm reading fics with a lot of description, I get really impatient and irritated and I'm like "Yeah, blah blah blah, it was a lovely spring day, get on with it."
I mean, I'm not adverse to description when it's essential to the story, but you can tell me we're in the woods on a breezy spring day. I don't want, or need, 2 paragraphs about the particular trees, or the wonderful shades of green, or the way the sun is shining in a clearing, etc etc. Its just very, very boring to me.
So, my question is, is my being impatient/irritated about that kind of stuff kind of signify I'm an unsophisticated reader? Like someone who prefers a print of Dogs Playing Poker to an original Rembrandt? (That was a pretty pathetic comparison, but you know what I mean.)

I don't think so. I also loathe fics with too much description, and I loathe writing it even more. I used to be heavily into the dbz fandom, so I guss that influnced me in what I prefer. I tend to enjoy fics that get to the point, but with moderate description. I mean I don't want to read an entire paragraph on how someone walked from point a to point b. So nope you are not an unsophisticated reader.

Ok, good. Me too! Yay! I wanted to talk about this with someone who read it.

I really liked the Hawke/Loghain part to the point where I kinda want a fanfic about it. And usually I hate people's Inquisitor/Hawke/Warden fanfic because it's very Mary Sue/Gary Sue or whatever.

But this Hawke is actually kind of cool for me because I think there's a lot of depth there. To a certain extent, she's playing a character because that's how having the book written about her has sort of conditioned her to behave, because it's what people expect.

She is a wisecracking, sarcastic, devil-may-care sort of person, but that's not all she is, but because of the book, thats all she feels like she can be.

If that makes sense?

And I like how her relationship with Loghain is sort of based on the same thing with him. People think of him as this uber villain, or like the quartermaster in Haven, think he's awesome, but he's all of those things and none, because push comes to shove, he's just a man, with all the good and bad that goes along with it.

So I like how they're friends and it seems like they're the only people who can take each other for what they are, and not the legend of themselves, so to speak.

And I also like how it kinda drives a wedge between her and Varric. She loves Varric, so she never says anything, and continues to kind of play a part for him, because she knows if she lets the truth slip, that the book made her feel trapped, he'd be devastated. (Ok, the fanfic doesn't actually say this, but I think it's sort of implied.)

Varric also doesn't get/can't get her relationship with Loghain, because to understand it, he'd have to first understand about the book.

So, Uhm, yeah, that was probably more analysis spent on a fanfic than I spent on some of the stuff I was supposed to read for literature class back in the day....

And the rest of it was fine/good too, IMHO. I kind of liked reading some of the stuff about the weapons, but I like history so ymmv. I also like seeing Cassandra deal with problems that don't involve hitting things repeatedly. I mean, I know she kicks butt, but she couldn't have stayed as right hand for as long as she did without being good at other stuff too.

I also saw your post about Loghain got about a thousand posts overnight so obviously it's a topic people feel really strongly about, lol.

My whole review on the latest chapter of Its hard to be a gentleman was pretty much raving about Hawke, Loghain & Cullen's lyrium addiction. Vivian Hawke is like literally my favorite character of the story now after that this chapter. I won't repeat any of the stuff you just said but I really loved when the author talked about the box that contains your happiness and realizing that you're running out of genuine smiles. That really touched me right there. Her relationship with Loghain was interesting as well. He is yet another person with many titles & many expectations but he can see Hawke for who she truly is. Being able to not have to "wear a mask" around someone & be accepted for who you & vice versa is a special bond to have with someone. That chapter also had me curious about Loghain. In DA:O he was just a villain in my eyes & I immediately executed him when given the chance. While I still think what he did was wrong now I just want to know more about him as a person.

Cullen's lyrium addiction was something I really enjoyed as well. In the game I didn't feel like he was going thru a whole lot & I hardly felt sorry for him. Now he is in the infirmary going through serious withdraws & isn't fit for duty right now (now I feel sorry for him). When Cassandra recalled doing the Chant of Light with him I thought it was heartwarming with how she a pillar of strength for him with her strong faith. Now I wish this was explored more in the game but then again on second thought I much rather experience this with Hunter piloting it.

I agree with you on the wedge between Varric & Hawke. She does love him a lot & I could only imagine how much it would hurt him to know that he did something to inadvertently cause her pain. He feels guilty enough already no need to add more to his burden. It makes sense now why Hawke has aged so much over this short amount of time.

Loghain understands her so she really isn't alone. You don't have to be in a relationship to not be alone.

Totally glad the two of you enjoyed it. It was a longer chapter, and I thought it might've dragged in a lot of places, but short of setting it on fire and starting over again (which might've been what a real author would do...) I decided to post and move on, so...glad you enjoyed what you did! The Loghain/Hawke part was actually a happy accident because I was really struggling to start the chapter, and just got that idea. But I really enjoyed writing it.

Loghain has always really appealed to me as a character because of the idea that he has done some really awful things...but he also has done some really good, selfless things...and Bioware gives him a chance for redemption for the evil things he's done. I think that story can really appeal to almost anybody.

I'm actually doing this thing to challenge myself, so I appreciate your feedback quite a lot. As you get older (or at least, as I get older) you kind of tend to slip into patterns where you only do things you know you already like or are good at, so I decided to try this, and man, it sure is a lot more difficult and humbling than I thought it would be. Sometimes I think I just should've picked something easier, like jumping out of an airplane, instead.

I understand how it feels to get older and get stuck in your ways, I've been noticing that pattern with myself lately. Personally I rather just stay in my comfort zone since my job literally picks me up & throws me out of it all day lol but I completely understand how you feel. I'm not going to act like I completely understand the creative process in any way but it doesn't take much to figure out the huge difference between doing something for yourself & doing something for other people. With an audience you feel that you have to appease that does put pressure on people but your last chapter pretty much says that you have nothing to worry about. I say do what makes you feel happy & then share that happiness with the world. One thing I've definitely have learned to do the older I've gotten is to be a bit more selfish.

Jumping out of an airplane is actually easy, it's just the sudden stop at the end that can be a pisser...

Thank you, I'll be here all week. Be sure to tip your waitress.

But seriously, you seem like you write fine to me, but I'm not an expert. I like how you change things around from the game so it's not just same old, same old.

I know you've asked for negative opinions so you can improve but like I said I'm not an expert so you may not want my advice. Maybe if any of the smarter people around here read your fic, they can help. I'm just an art history major. Yes, unfortunately, I am serious.

Your happiness > Everyone else's happiness

Weirdly enough, I kinda went in the opposite direction but then again I had kids relatively young (mid 20s) so that might have something to do with it. With kids, their happiness >>> your happiness.

ETA: Who wants more ghost fic? Chapter 3 is up.

While I was writing about being more selfish I was thinking about you & your kids. That kind of mindset will not work that well when you have little ones to depend on you but I still think you should treat yourself every now & then. As for that fic you just posted I haven't even read it yet. Dear Maker there is so many things I need to catch up on & I doubt I ever will truly catch up on everything. Being a responsible adult can really put a hamper on things.

I'm glad Cass likes the chest hair, for her own sake, at least. lol  I wonder if he mentioned it to her during his interrogation? I mean, in theory he told Cassandra all the party banter we heard. lol

Now I'm imagining him tossing that commentary about his chest hair out there and Cass constantly having to force herself NOT to look at it for like the next 15 minutes of interrogation.
