Varric: What the-
Cass: Feel free to return the favour!
Varric: Of course Seeker, you ever need something impaled from behind, I'm your man...

And somewhere, Isabela's smut gong is ringing...

Good old friend fiction. Isabela was always ahead of the game. I can't wait to romance her again in my next DA2 playthrough. Hell after all this the whole interrogation scene is going to seem so different now. Let Varric stab her book, she'll see the truth then.

Oh, and actually some on-topic stuff (sorry for all the previous randomness).

Fanfic Friday!:

1) Enigmatic Agenty Scully is back, this time with a brand new fanfic she is starting. (I wish she'd finish the awesome one she has first, but nobody asked me, lol. ). It's well written as always:

http://archiveofouro...hapters/7563803

2) Speaking of smut, here's something vaguely smutty from Spirrum. I think she writes too...nicely, for lack of a better word, to write true smut though. But definitely worth a perusal.

http://archiveofouro...hapters/7558526

3) And more Rest in the Warmest Places:

http://archiveofouro...hapters/6919628

If anybody knows what is happening in this fic, let me know, lol. Not that I didn't read it, but my reading style can best be described as "quick skimming" and after this latest chapter I'm slightly confused. (But I'm not exactly the brightest bulb in the box, so...). But quite nicely written as always.

Rest in the Warmest places , I have alive-hate relationship with that fanfic. But now we know what the big secret was.

But I didn't enjoy biology at all, so there. Biology to me was just like a big bunch of "memorize this". Where was the fun in that? Now, chemistry was awesome. Talk about the closest thing to magic we'll get in our daily lives. "I had this, mixed it with that, now it's this completely different thing. Magic!"

Funny, a lot of biologists are not that fond of chemistry, yet it is one of the basics of our science :D . I totally agree on special fields like botany or entomology where I literally had just to learn like 95% by heart (something I don't like, I rather understand things and gain knowledge this way). Other fields are pretty exciting to me (genetics, immunology, the effect of environmental changes...), especially when you're doing research. I am glad that people like different stuff, though, because I couldn't do something like accounting ;) .

Oh well, I'm OT again and it's the weekend which means laundry, cleaning and other similarly exciting things *sighs*.

I can't stop watching this gif for some reason. Hrrrrrrrgh. This makes me think on how Varric can make almost everything sound like a sexual euphemism. "Everything's sexual if you try hard enough!"

OH MAN. Thanks for the links! I am a huge fan of spirrum's smut and I'm totally saving this for later oh my god. (There's something really charming about intimate scenes that are written less for the sex and more on the passion, but that's just me, I guess.)

And I feel like I should really catch up on Rest in the Warmest Places because I feel like I'm reading through pages of backstory here and I don't know which parts to focus on.

Before I return to my college work pit, I want to give you guys online hugs for being so amazing and friendly. I just wanted to say that and get that out of the way. I don't really contribute much aside from snarky commentary and the occasional fic and I still feel happy just reading your stuff and replying to you guys. Thank you for being awesome people ;)

Hi, thanks for those of you who cared enough to enquire what happened to my fanfic. Long story short, reading my story over to revise it, I came to the conclusion it was pretty awful, so I took it down. Maybe someday I'll write some more after I take a writing class and actually learn the basics of good writing. But support for this fandom is increasing by leaps and bounds, and I trust the fanfiction of Cassaric or Tethraghast is in good hands with some of the new, talented authors who are writing for it.

Take care, everyone.

I could... I could have saved the fic beforehand... I only have chapter one with me...

Well, I know the feeling of feeling terrible over your work, so I guess I understand. After all, that's your work and your creation. But I -- or rather we -- love your writing so much and that fic was one of the things we looked forward to you updating (did that sound right?), so please don't stop writing! Practice makes perfect, they say, right? If you want, I can share you my notes in my Creative Writing class, they're pretty good stuff. xD

And I could have sworn that the fic is one of the reasons this ship even started sailing. Just putting that right there.

I think our definitions of awful writing are VERY different but this is your decision so I'll have to deal with it even if every fiber of my being is screaming right now. I would also like to point out that Its hard to be a gentleman was the fic that really helped this pairing take off. There were others but I truly feel that this fic was the start of Tethraghast! Writing courses will give you a great guideline to fallback on but it isn't needed, it helps but isn't needed. Damn I'll survive without your fic somehow but I swear on the almighty maker that you better notify us the very second you write something else. Also please don't be stranger we love for you to stay and join our discussions. I really enjoy your point of view on things, it is very refreshing.

Ah Hunter, that's really a shame *sobs quietly*. I understand your reasons (publishing something but not really being content with it) but I truly hope you'll revise it and write some more! I think we all enjoyed reading your work.

::hangs head in shame::

Yeah, we'll see. I guess. And I hope it won't take forever ;).

No need to hang your head in shame. Different strokes for different folks, right? :) I prefer more explicit smut, as well *squinting at the IB thread* , but I also enjoy not so explicit ones.

If my vocabulary in English was better, I could think of some but as it is, it just won't give a good fic because I lack the proper words (can't write anything just based on f-words, lol). Weird thing is, I can't write it in my mother tongue, as well, because I think of DA in English ;).

Honestly, I think you are your own worst critic. I get that. I am the same way about the stuff I write. I won't insult you and say there is no room for improvement on your story, but it really was NOT a bad story and I really really enjoyed it. I have seen bad stories and bad writers. You are not that. NO matter how well you fine tune your craft, there is always going to be someone out there who thinks it's poorly written drivel. You can't please everyone.

One final thing. Have you thought about getting a beta reader to go over your stories? There are a lot of fan fiction writers who use people to go over their work before publishing it on ff.net or other sites.

Anyway, I wish you luck.

I'm still crying about it as well. Now I need to go back a few pages to read all the spoilers since I was avoiding all those like the plague lol. Wistful81 made a great point that we are our own worst critic. Just recently I had to give my opinion on a personal matter with a friend and my criticism was viewed as being harsh. When told that my response was cruel my reply was ",If you think was cruel imagine how I am on myself." Of course that went through one ear & out the other but that is a whole different topic.

Dear sir I wish more people in the fanfiction world had your level of self criticism. Chapeau bas, monsieur.

I like many others on this thread rather enjoyed your story and hope you will publish it again.

Let me just say that I am a rabid reader that don't generally go anywhere near fanfiction, it makes my skin crawl and not in a good way. Your story is (well "was" now) one of the very few that I kept checking, just like some others here, you might have done something right ;).

Given how much Varric seems to be a writers' mouthpiece on a lot of things, (and the 'just because two people argue it doesn't mean they're going to kiss' banter with Dorian) it wouldn't surprise me if they are already aware.  Certainly I know they were aware that people wanted a romanceable Varric in DA2 and DAI.  I wonder if that is partly why we met Bianca this time, instead of having an existing character like Dagna or whoever learn about lyrium and the Blight.

I think a lot of authors aren't super-keen on fanfic stuff, although it varies.  I expect it's part of dealing with the 'death of the artist' in terms of feeling (and having, legally) ownership over these characters and then having to accept that once it's out there, you can't control how people respond to it, and accept that all the stuff we imagine that they didn't intend or expect exists.  I don't know.  I don't feel like we are being disrespectful to the writers, honestly, because we are not saying that this is somehow intrinsically 'right' or better than how things are in the game; it's just a 'what if?'

(Mostly I am just kind of...afraid? of Gaider because he seems very, erm...derisive of people a lot.  Not that I can blame him, because people are frequently awful and frequently awful to him particularly, but...yeah.  I would fear his wrath and scorn too much to ask anything.  But I'm very easily intimidated.)

Thank you, you are all very lovely. I just wanted to let you all know because I know some here followed it, and there's nothing more annoying (to me) when an author abruptly stops writing, but doesn't let anyone know, so their fic kind of languishes in an unfinished purgatory.

I'm sorry if I...upset(?) anyone. The outpouring of affection was..unexpected, but really just speaks to how very sweet you all are. If I ever see my way to cutting myself some slack and writing more, I'll let you know.

Sorry for sidetracking you all from your discussions! Hugs to all.

You sidetracking the discussion!? I think you have about at least 7 pages of discussion about your fic alone on this thread so no need to apologize for that. As for the upset part, this is the bioware forums we get upset over the most stupidest things (there is no need to name examples of this) so this is all just an average day. We will all truly miss your writing & still wish for you to stay & join us in our various discussions (at least stay for the chest hair).

Gaider does seem kind of scary, doesn't he? Yes, I know I'd definitely leave someone else to ask him that question. But someone else should, because like I said previously, I'm totally on board for making this pairing canon and have all the half-dwarf baby names picked out. I nominate Elizabeth to ask since she seems the most persuasive.

I originally majored in broadcast journalism after I got out of high school. While I may have the voice for it (the voice comes in handy when I'm serving tables) & I can be outgoing the field really isn't a fit for me. It took me three years to figure that out & decided to take a break from college for a while. Now that I'm older & I'm focusing on what makes me happy I'm getting a PHD in sports psychology. I've always had an interest in the human mind but preferred to focus more on an applied field of study. In psychology there is only three choices to choose from & sports psychology was the best fit. While the work is challenging it is very engaging & I love it.

That CGI of Cassie & Varric is amazing. I'm going to use that for my start screen wallpaper.

Ohh, is that sports broadcasting? I totally buy the MLB package for my XM just so I can hear all the radio announcers from all over and follow the games. Do you have any favorites? Or am I misunderstanding your major? Was it more like broadcasting the news?

I would say they know of it, for sure.  How much they know/care is anyones guess. They must be aware of the behaviour of threads.cause Gaider praised the older Solas thread for civil and friendly behaviour.  nowitsaceasepool

Gaider,  got so much **** on Tumblr but It's not like a new thing when he joined. I think Gaider just gets defensive, of his work which is fair enough. There have only been a few instances where he was out of line.

Hehe...yeah I think partly he is just a bit...not really a people person (which, neither am I, I tend towards misanthropy myself so I get it), it just makes him a bit daunting - especially since he's a writer and skilled with cutting verbal takedowns. (Oh sweet Maker, don't let him see these posts of mine...)

I think with Cass being a romance option it's unlikely to ever be canon, but perhaps in an AU somewhere? (Like Alistair and Leliana in that comic or whatever it was.)

Yeah, I have to agree. It kind of pisses me off, at how he cops a lot of **** when 9/10 he does not deserve it. Not gonna lie though, there has been one or two instances where he kinda did. But even so, the level of **** thrown at him was unnecessary.  People forget he is a flawed human being, and not some writing messiah who is not allowed to do anything wrong.

The allistar Leliana thing was from the darkspawn chronicles DLC. It kind of makes me wonder if she was using his naivety though, and getting close to the people in power.(like she could have gotten with zevran.)

It's a possibility, they did do the Tali Garus thing. A very very very very small one, but you never know..
