It's not canon she gives up the romance, but it's not "not canon" either. I think it's more they haven't answered the question, but from what I've seen its heavily implied,

I don't know. Everyone is free to have their own impressions, of course, but I just don't see her reforming that aspect of being the Divine. Everything else she wants to reform, it's because she thinks it's morally wrong, not for her own convenience. I don't know what the "morally wrong" reason would be for overturning the divine's chastity.

Of course, this stuff all probably makes a lot more sense to me, coming from a Catholic background, which is basically what the Chantry is based on, so your mileage may vary.

 

Yeah, as a Roman Catholic, I see the glaring similarities between the Chantry and the Catholic Church. The "rules" in higher positions are almost the same, and the principles of the Chantry have similarities to modern day theology. (Not to mention that the formatting and the textual style of the Chant of Light is so similar to the Bible! Oh my.)

 

So here's to me assuming/headcanon-ing that the Chantry is almost as "strict" with its rules. The Divine can't just traipse around to change things -- the religion and the Chantry itself is built upon its believers and what they think is right, but the Divine can heavily influence the decisions of its believers depending on her actions and public image. She can make huge decisions, yes, but it has to have a religious and theological basis on "why the hell should I do this, is this for the greater good of the Chantry???"

 

And rules changing for Divine!Cassandra to have a "relationship" is not for the Chantry as a whole but for personal benefit which could possibly affect her performance as Divine. Although you do have to think that Divine!Cassandra has no background in the Chantry aside from being a Seeker -- she's no cleric or lay sister like Leliana, so maybe she's given a little more leg room since she's not a cleric? I mean people would know that she used to be a warrior and her devotion is through internal faith and not dedicating her life to pray everyday, hahaha. 

 

(Also don't know about the relationship bit. It could mean a lot of things. Sexual, romantic, platonic???? who knows??? Though I don't see them continuing their "relationship" once Cassandra is Divine, I do see Cassandra making decisions in the Chantry that would make Varric stop hiding his Andrastian faith, at the very least.)

If you haven't read it before, do yourself a favor and do so. It's amusing without being completely over-the -top. Its obviously written by a lit major with a love of Shakespeare, with cute little inside jokes here and there (title included). The latest chapter is called "Exit, Chased By a Bear", which admittedly is the best stage direction EVER. I don't think I'm spoiling anything to reveal bears figure prominently in this chapter. Just read it. And things are moving along swimmingly,and the fic is well paced, so I think we're in for a few more chapters but the author has a definite plot and ending in mind....which, incidentally is a good segue into our next fic.

I love the way this person writes, but I gotta be honest with you...I'm getting the vibe that updates will come longer and longer and both fics will eventually peter out. I would personally read it anyway, because it is enjoyable, but if you're going to commit hari kari if the fic isn't finished, I'd wait until the author consistently cranks out a few more chapters before committing to it.

I like Shakespeare, not so much the poetry but the plays. I had to dig through Macbeth for my advanced English course and I was loving it. In case you know Wyrd Sisters by Terry Pratchett, you can imagine how much I enjoyed this book. I am really sad that his death was announced today .

Don't worry, morie! Real life is more important, and uni demands a lot of your time which is more than understandable. I really appreciate how artists like you and all the fanfic authors spend so much of their spare time on creating those wonderful works! Sorry for being a jerk in the first place; I just had a bad two weeks. I applied for a grad program and heard back that I was rejected (when I really, really thought I'd be accepted) and basically had a nervous breakdown. But I'm trying to pick the pieces up, and I did enjoy writing.

I am sorry to hear that the grad program didn't work out, they don't know what they are missing out. I keep my fingers crossed that your next application will go through! From experience at my job, sometimes it's just really a close call when you have to decide between 2 equally qualified people. When we hired my colleague, it was just 1 year more work experience she had and the other person didn't. So, I don't think they didn't accept you because you are not qualified but because of a really minor reason.

 

Please don't change the ending . I love it how it is, and I don't mind spoilers. I hope for some smut, though .

Thanks for the second paragraph. Maybe it was just that, who knows? I think it just hit me so hard because I exceed their stats for the program and I don't know what to do to make my app substantially better. So...I could hang around and apply next year without much changing and just hope for a different result or I have to do...something else. What that something else is, who knows. You just put years of effort into something and it doesn't work out, it sucks.

Oh well, enough about me. I can't make any promises about the smut. . That can be so embarrassing if it doesn't work out. But I'll think about it, anyway.

Divine Cassandra having a lover would be as wrong as the Pope having one, I'd think. Assuming they stick with the Catholic parallels of the Chantry, Cassandra may very well have to take religious vows and technically become a priest before she is crowned Divine. That's what happened the 1 time  the church nominated a lay person for Pope. And I assume those vows include chastity. I can't see Cassandra breaking vows.

 

What I would love to see is a Cass/Varric story that really delves into the whole Bianca fiasco. So far majority of stories haven't really dealt with it satisfactorily, at least for me. It's always sort of a footnote and brushed aside. Varric has been hanging onto this (married) woman for 10 years and lapping up any scraps she throws his way. I just don't see his leaving Bianca as easy for him.

 

I don't want to promise anything, but I do actually have a story idea I've been thinking about where Bianca's marriage/circumstances (and thus her relationship with Varric) is a main plot point.

 

RDA totally nailed my writing habits though so this may not see the light of day till 2033.
