I don't hate Bianca. Yet,anyway. lol I've actually not completed Varric's quest with her for myself, yet. So, I'm reserving judgment.

She honestly seems like a more aggressive version of Daisy from Great Gatsby to me, if anything. Who I admittedly hate with a passion, but who knows if that'll hold when I'm done the quest?

Found a new fanart! Spoiler'd for size.

Spoiler

I can easily see them actually getting those shirts. Especially Cassandra's.

Urrgh the Great gatsby..hated that book, and I still do.

I'm not sure if I hate Bianca, but I really don't like her. I found it really sad Varric avoids relationships for her! Tbh I used to assume she was dead, which made it noble and tragic. But no, she just married some other guy. :s Not to mention that red lyrium business!

Urrgh the Great gatsby..hated that book, and I still do.

I didn't read the whole thing. lol hated the writing style and couldn't get through it.

I did (mostly) pay attention in class when we covered it. And I recently saw the Dicaprio movie, so... yeah. lol

I remembered enough about the book to know for years that I hated Daisy so very much. Gatsby was a genuinely good guy, hung up on a woman who, at best, was hot and cold to him. Like, yeah yeah she had a jerk husband and she was maybe forced to marry him b/c of circumstances. But her vacillation just irks me. Like Gatsy has a viable way out for you. Have some conviction one way or the other, already!

Bianca isn't quite that kind of character. I don't think. As far as we've seen, she isn't technically leading Varric on. But she's apparently not gonna leave this Davri guy for him either.

Varric (and Bertrand) have built Clan Tethras into a very rich and powerful clan. I mean, Varric has his own spy network. (And half a beat plantation in Rivain!) He has Bianca the crossbow. He's an influential member of the Inquisition, best friends with the Champion of Kirkwall in practically all possible world(state)s, friends with Guard Captain Aveline and Admiral Isabela (hey shut up, those count as important. :P), has a carta head for an editor, and is a famous author, and thus he has a legion of fangirls at his disposal.

He really can't handle the repercussions of the Davri family if Bianca broke it off?

And so what if they send assassins or something. He's Varric. He, along with all of aforementioned friends and resources if need be, can take down assassins. He has before.

If Bianca left her marraige, would it be a walk in the park? No. But it would be doable. The reason it hasn't happened is b/c of Bianca not going through with it. The reason they aren't together is a "won't", not a "can't".

All of that said, I am not saying Bianca *should* leave her husband. If her husband was an abusive a-hole, I'd be all for her getting away from him. But we don't even get an indication he's unpleasant. And I think Varric would indicate that at some point if he was. Or Bianca would, considering how abrasive her personality can be.

The situation seems to be that Bianca is cheating on her husband with Varric and is just fence sitting, refusing to break off either one or the other. And I think that just needs to stop, for Varric's sake, if nothing else. As long as this continues, he's just stuck. And as his friend a gamer who's grown extremely attached to him, I am just not ok with seeing him like this.

He needs to be able to move forward with his life. With Cassandra.

Elizabeth, I totally agree with you on Bianca. She's having her cake and eating it too, and Varric is the one suffering. I mean, I'm not aghast she's cheating on her husband or anything. Plenty of people have gotten married as business arrangements and had their real love on the side, and everyone winked and nodded and turned the other way.

There's some quote (that I'm about to mangle) about a Victorian hostess who said the best thing to do was to put everyone in the appropriate bedrooms, and then stay out of the hallways at night.

Which, if that's what Varric and Bianca had, that would be fine by me. But...they don't. Apparently she has to sneak around, and Varric only gets the crumbs, and that's...just awful. It makes her into a user and makes him look pathetic.

Hey, I'm late to the fanfic party this week, but here's a few worth reading you might have missed:

http://archiveofouro...hapters/7836251This one is called "Names for What Binds Us" and it's another "what happens at Redcliffe in the A/U" fic, but it's by far the best I've read. It's 2 chapters and complete, at a tight yet meaty 10K words. Obviously, it's not a happy, fluffy story, but neither is it as depressing as you would think either. I don't know how to put this, exactly, but I think the author captures very well the dignity that can be found even in suffering...if that makes sense. Just read it; I doubt my description can do it justice.

http://archiveofouro...hapters/7901496 Two new ficlets posted by Orange, good for a quick ship fix. :)

http://archiveofouro...hapters/7884798 Newest chapter of Dreaming Red is up. I think the author is done it already and just updating weekly, so I don't think we need worry abandoning it, and as I said before, I think it actually gets better, story- wise, as it goes along. Unfortunately, not a lot of V/C in this chapter, but a bit of a tease at the end.

http://archiveofouro...hapters/7920378 Latest chapter of Orange's Noir fic. Mild spoiler: Varric almost dies, and I'm in love with the Daimler.

http://spirrum.tumbl...s-crying-cass-x A little angsty friend fic hurt/comfort with Varric and Cass by spirrum.

You doubted my enthusiastic recommendation? ::raises haughty eyebrow::

:D

I'm glad you liked it too. See, everyone? Run, don't walk, to read this fic!

I hope nobody minds me posting these and doing the brief reviews. It's just a public service so no one accidentally stumbles across the Varric/Bianca/Cass threesome. There's not enough mind-bleach in the world to erase that.

Ya'll are welcome. :)

I don't know. I'm on PS4 so that means I can't even access it now. Although the reviews are kinda meh, so not sure if I'll even buy it. If you or anyone else get it, let us know.

Fanfic Tuesday: some short stories on AO3 (I think they're all standalones, and short-ish, max 2k words, so perfect for the odd 5 minutes here and there.)

-Friends, Foes, and Lovers: http://archiveofouro...g/works/3606639 Varric and angst
-His Words, Her Love: http://archiveofouro...hapters/7950936 Varric attempts to write poetry (by poster
LumenIzampel)
-Our Many Tales (Spirrum's short stories--if you follow her tumblr, you'll already have seen these). http://archiveofouro...hapters/7949661

I'm more than happy to link to works by some of our posters, but I hope they're not afraid to let us know they wrote stuff. I know if I ever wrote anything, I'd post it all over the place and be like, "Hey, leave good reviews cuz it's awesome!!!"

Ok, maybe not, but seriously. Sometimes I'm a few days behind or even miss stuff altogether, so let us know!

Actually, I was rather scared to share my fics to the thread because I've been gone for a long time and it feels preposterous for me to just go back suddenly and go "omg guys read my fic pls!!!" Yeah.

But still, thank you for linking them. It means a lot. OuO

But I'll actually try and get rid of that habit, starting now... where I wrote a fic weeks back but I didn't share because it was during that whole issue thing pages back and anything I say might not move the discussion on the good side. So... http://archiveofouro...g/works/3434246

It's a dark future AU thing that's supposed to be a part of my other fic, so... yeah. Angst. Oop. Sorry. I'll go hide again now.

I've bought it (cus new explorable area? yes pls) but I've not actually played it yet. I'd need to download patch 6 and that currently would break my mods. want ot give a little time for the modders to work out the details and make the tools work again. Its not a big loss for me personally, since my let's play/playthrough isn't to that point anyway. I've barely left val Royeaux. lol This map is supposed to be higher levels right?

I don't think there's new banter, but I did read in the thread about the DLC in the scuttlebutt section that the companions react to events going on in the storyline/environment. I noticed recently there was a bit of Cassaric banter in redcliffe when you leave the chantry after meeting Dorian. Its never in any videos I see of banter, though. So the expositional stuff in this new area may also have that and just not "count" as regular banter.

Oh, don't worry about it! And I did read that one you linked just now. I liked it (I like AU Redcliffe fics--angst is delicious, lol.). I gave it kudos. It's always really great when people put their stuff out there. It takes a lot of courage and trust so thanks to you and everyone who works so hard at writing and drawing good stuff for the ship.

There's a few codex entries on Ameridan's companions scattered around the Frostback Basin, as well as a side quest where you can view some of his memories (like in HTLA), leading the companions to comment on the amusing parallels between the old and new Inquisition;

I don't mind at all having you rec my fics. It's really encouraging, actually. I've probably said this so many times everyone has it memorized, but I'm pretty new to writing, and particularly writing fanfic. So having someone say "Go read this, I liked it" is just thrilling.

Ugh I really really want the dlc oh my god. It sounds AWESOME!

So, out of curiosity, what made you decide to write? Just curious, I'm not trying to pry, so don't answer if it's private, I'm just interested in why people write.

rda- It's nothing private! I hadn't written in a long time because nothing had really captured my attention. I had less than no desire to write anything at all, and then DA:I happened. I started quietly shipping Cassandra and Varric, and hoping that there was fanfic out there. There was not a whole hell of a lot, which was a little disappointing. I think I started writing when there were fewer than 30 fics on AO3, and I had read them all. I just wanted there to be more. So I started writing.

Cool. How do you feel about it now that you've done it? Do you enjoy it? I'm asking because it seems like an awful lot of work for a largely ungrateful set of fans. I mean, I used to write a bit for my job (although I wrote creative "non-fictions" instead of creative fiction, if you catch my meaning) and I enjoyed the hell out of it--because for a job, it was relatively enjoyable. Key phrase being for a job. I mean, I wrote like an 800 word little fic for morie somewhere here o the thread, and no kidding, it probably took 2 hours. Now, I couldn't imagine the untold hours it would take to crank out longer fics--and doing it all for free, and you can only hope someone takes the time to click a thumbs up button, let alone leave a comment.

Is it just a labor of love, and is the internal satisfaction worth it, regardless of public reception? Or is it like "I want someday to be a published author"?

Because don't get me wrong I'm probably one of the biggest consumers of fanfic out there and I totally appreciate it, but I don't know how the authors do it!
