Can you still romance Dorian if you chose Templars?

Hi,

so I accidentally chose the Templars (I just read that IF I chose the templars then I wouldn't be able to choose the mages - I never even realised that there were 2 quests available...... so I assumed I could decline the templars). Anyway, I'm wondering if it's still possible to romance Dorian and if so, how long into the game until I encounter him as a templar?

Thanks.

He will make his appearance a bit later. No worries!

I don't know for certain, but given his comment of how you smell due to the lyrium... and since as a tevinter he can end up banging a qunari...

My bottom dollar's being betted on "Yes."

Yes. I did in my first playthrough.

He shows up in Haven after the templar quest is completed.  Any disapproval that you gain with him by choosing the templars can be easily overcome by doing his "One less Venatori" quest, and by flirting with him.  I believe that by choosing the templars you are less likely to encounter the bug regarding his quest with his father as well.

Thanks! And how much does this decision effect the story? Pretty annoyed at myself since I made the concious effort to sympathise with the mages throughout (and play a mage myself!). Stupid mistake. I am considering restarting the game, but not sure if it's worth it...

It doesn't really have an effect on the rest of the game, except for mission right after. It ends up determining what faction of enemies you have to face right after the mage/templar mission.  If you side with the templars, you end up fighting Venatori. If you side with the mages, you fight red templars.

There are epilogue slides at the end that change based on the decisions you've made.

Choosing the templars just makes it 'harder'. Though he seemed perfectly ready to get with my male qunari inquisitor after his personal quest even though I had chosen the templars, never had him in my party, had picked all aggressive/bottom down options in dialogue with him and just mentioned that my inquisitor liked men (why was that only available as a flirt? My character was with Iron Bull). I had to reload and pick another dialogue option just so the game wouldn't think I wanted to two-time them.

It does change a main mission completely, and a side quest. I personally found the templar quest cooler, even though I prefer the mages. Also acquiring Cole makes more sense when you pick the templars.
