Generic NPC's.. There were no Warden's, Mage's, Templars etc... And to the second point, no PC game should be toned down to suit consoles.. This might sound harsh, but I don't care about your performance issues or limited field of view. The fact that games are being made to suit out of date hardware for consoles is why games are far behind what they should be.
It's funny you should mention this. I played Aion from the second closed beta until just before it went F2P. I still pop in every once in a while when I feel the need to PvP. However, when a couple of hundred people load in at the same time, I still get "loading lag" from it. I run the Witcher 2 maxed, so, in theory, I shouldn't have this issue, right? All of my guild mates had the same issue. So while I pointed out "especially the low end/previous gen consoles", the issue can exist across the board. There's reason a lot of MMOs have the ability to turn off people in towns, and it's purely due to how the engine, and the wide array of PCs will handle the rendering required to load them. It would be really ironic to find out that in graphically intensive areas, even your own PC might struggle with more than 20 "people" in one area. Your hardware isn't the only consideration here, and there's a reason that big battles are shown in cutscenes, instead of actually putting the player in the mix.
