I don't think there are any/many spoilers in this mini-guide, I tried to keep them out.  That said, there might be some minor spoilers, read at your own risk.

Author's Note: Several times I may use the term "quest" in this guide.  In all cases, "Quest" is synonymous with "Mission", I'm too lazy to go back and fix my writing.

War Table Resource Collection Mini-Guide

Introduction:

The Intent of this Mini-Guide is to document all of the resources that can be gathered out of the War table collection missions.  Most exploration zones unlocked from the War Table have collection missions you can do, this guide attempts to document the returns you get from assigning each of your Advisers to any given collection mission.

The Basics:

Any time you unlock a new zone from the War Table, a collection mission is allocated for that zone allowing you to gather some of the Herb and Metal resources available within the zone.  You do not have to even enter the zone for these quests to become available.  Once you've paid the "power" cost to unlock a given zone, leave the war table and come back to it and the collection mission will show up.

The adviser you select determines the outcome of the mission.

* These missions are NOT RANDOM.  Each adviser will ALWAYS return the exact same resources every time they are allocated to this mission.

* Liliana returns Herbs, Cullen returns metals, Josephine returns a little of both.

Further, some zones have Keeps associated with them that you can capture:

* Crestwood

* Western Approach

* Emprise Du Lion

Each Captured keep opens up a NEW collection quest one each for Cloth, Leather, Metal and Herbs.

* These quests are also NOT RANDOM.  The same adviser will return the same materials every time.  Ignore any text talking about the frequency or likelyhood of failure.  Either this is a bug or it was removed from the game...there is no "failure" chance.

* For these quests, Liliana always returns the best results, Cullen always returns the worst results, and Josephine returns mostly crap with a few good materials.

* It's in your best interest to ALWAYS use Liliana with any of these resource collection quests.

Author's Note:  There are some reports that say some zones (such as Emprise Du Lion) MAY return rarer materials (for instance Cullen may return Silverite) periodically.  I can say, however, that the chances of this happening are so low that they do not bear mentioning.  Simply keep in mind that if you see an odd return that isn't listed below, you probably got a 1 in 100 chance of something different happening...run the mission again and you'll see what I post below.

Exceptions:

The following zones are exceptions to this rule...these zones do NOT have resource collection quests available for them:

* Haven

* Val Royeaux

* The Storm Coast

* The Forbidden Oasis

* Skyhold

Zone Collection Quests:

Hinterlands:

     * Liliana: 6 Elfroot

     * Cullen: 6 Onyx

     * Josephine: 3 Onyx, 3 Elfroot

Fallow Mire:

     * Liliana: 6 Blood Lotus
     * Cullen: 3 Summer Stone, 1 Blue Vitriol
     * Josephine: 1 Summer Stone, 3 Blood Lotus

Crestwood:

     * Liliana: 6 Embrium
     * Cullen: 6 Obsidian
     * Josephine:3 Obsidian, 3 Embrium

The Western Approach:

     * Liliana: 6 Deep Mushrooms
     * Cullen: 6 Paragon's Luster
     * Josephine:3 Paragon's Luster, 3 Deep Mushrooms

Exalted Plains:

     * Liliana: 6 Rashvine
     * Cullen: 6 Veridium
     * Josephine:3 Veridium, 3 Rashvine

Emerald Graves:

     * Liliana: 6 Embrium (NOTE: Same as Crestwood?!?!?!)
     * Cullen: 6 Pyrophite
     * Josephine:3 Pyrophite, 3 Embrium

Emprise Du Lion:

     * Liliana: 6 Arbor Blessing
     * Cullen: 6 Bloodstone
     * Josephine:3 Bloodstone, 3 Arbor Blessing

The Hissing Wastes:

     * Liliana: 3 Vandal Aria, 3 Deathroot
     * Cullen: 6 Lazurite
     * Josephine:3 Lazurite, 3 Vandal Aria

Keep Collection Quests:

Caer Bronarch (Crestwood) - Gather Herbs

     * Liliana: 6 Royal Elfroot
     * Cullen: 6 Spindleweed
     * Josephine:2 Royal Elfroot, 4 Spindleweed

Griffon Wing Keep (Western Approach) - Gather Metals

     * Liliana: 6 Everite
     * Cullen: 6 Paragon's Luster
     * Josephine:2 Everite, 4 Paragon's Luster

Suledin Keep (Emprise Du Lion) - Gather Leather

     * Liliana: 6 Great Bear Hide
     * Cullen: 3 Nug Skin, 3 Canine Leather
     * Josephine:6 August Ram Leather

Suledin Keep (Emprise Du Lion) - Gather Cloth

     * Liliana: 6 Plush Fustian Velvet
     * Cullen: 6 Velvetine
     * Josephine:2 Ring Velvet, 4 Velvetine

Author's Note: The two Suledin Keep gathering quests provide different materials for each of the three advisers...in these cases Josephine returns her own set of goods as opposed to Herbs and Metals where Josephine returns a subset of what Liliana and Cullen gather.  Keep this in mind as Ring Velvet and August Ram Leather can be just as useful as the materials Liliana returns in her own right on these gathering quests.

Conclusion:
While this might not occur to my readers, the resources listed above are CHEAP.  It costs you absolutely nothing to farm anything above (except time) and at a "one gathering per ~15 minutes" maximum, you can VERY QUICKLY rack up any of the items listed above.  DO NOT WASTE YOUR GAME PLAY TIME FARMING THE ABOVE MATERIALS out of a zone.  For instance, don't go into Emprise Du Lion and hunt Rams or Bears, you have no need to...simply send Josephine or Liliana on their Keep collectivity mission and 8 - 15 minutes later you have a small stock of these materials.  Within an hour you have generally more than enough to craft any one item you would like out of these materials.

Of importance, then is Emprise Du Lion and Hissing Wastes.  As you can see, You can get ahold of 6 Lazurite or Bloodstone at a time (both tier 2 metals) which actually helps ease crafting quite a bit early in the game.  Too, a stack of Lazurite sells for almost 700 gold...not horrible.

One of your goals should be to capture the Western Approach castle as quickly as possible.  This opens up the metal collection mission which then allows you to start farming Everite, one of the better T3 metals quickly...this will allow for the creation of the best armor/weapons you can get patterns for as early in the game as you can clear that castle.  This is VERY abuseable and allows for the creation of some rather high DPS (300+ for Rogues, 150+ for Warriors, 100+ for Mages) weapons and protective armor soon after your migration to Skyhold.

Herb Collection is fairly useless (Royal Elfroot isn't used for much), and by the time you can clear Emprise Du Lion, you already have the ability to farm for the Rams Leather and Bear Leather.  EDL comes a bit late in the game to abuse...though admittedly a free source of T3 Bear Pelts is hard to pass up...this just isn't the biggest bang for your time like Western Approach is.

Use Cullen to collect metals out of the normal zone collection quests, he's UTTERLY USELESS to use on ANY of the keep collection quests.  His returns are abysmal, generally consisting of T1 materials that you've LONG since outgrown.

Josephine can, in a pinch, be used for either the Keep Collection Quests or the Zone Collection quests:  Places like Hissing Wastes provides herbs that are needed for several upper end potions AND metals that are reasonably good to keep handy for crafting so she's not a bad play on the zone collection quests...and for both cloth and leather keep collection quests she returns unique materials (albeit T2 Materials as compared to Liliana's T3 Materials) that may be worth farming up.

Upcoming Updates:  I'll be creating an appendix section listing each of the materials above and their crafting uses.  That way you know what you need to farm.

Appendix 1: Gatherable Herbs

* Blood Lotus (T1)
* Elfroot (T1)
* Royal Elfroot (T1 Rare)
* Spindleweed (T1)

* Deathroot (T2)
* Deep Mushrooms (T2)
* Embrium (T2)
* Rashvine (T2)

* Arbor Blessing (T3)
* Vandal Aria (T3)

Appendix II: Gatherable Metal

Below are the Gaterable Metal Nodes.  Statistics are as follows: Tier Level, Utility Slot Bonus, Offense Slot Bonus, Defense Slot Bonus.  Note:  The numbers are PER PIECE used to craft the item.  See "Leather and Cloth" below for a full explanation.

* Blue Vitriol - (T1 - U: +1 Str - O: +1% Stagger on Hit - D: +1% Stagger on Being Hit)
* Onyx - (T1 - U: +1 Str - O: +1% Stagger on Hit - D: +1% Stagger on Being Hit)
* Summer Stone - (T1 - U: +1 Con - O: +2% Guard Damage - D: +10 Health)

* Bloodstone - (T2 - U: +1.5 Con - O: +2.5% Armor Pen. - D: +13 Health)
* Lazurite - (T2 - U: +1 Str, +0.5 Con - O: +1.5% Stagger on Hit - D: +1.5% Stagger on Being Hit)
* Obsidian - (T2 - U: +1 Str, +0.5 Con - O: +1.5% Stagger on Hit - D: +1.5% Stagger on Being Hit)
* Paragon's Luster - (T2 - U: +1.5 Str - O: +1.5% ATK - D: +1.5% Melee Defense)
* Pyrophite - (T2 - U: +1.5 Con - O: +2.5% Guard Damage - D: +13 Health)
* Veridium - (T2 - U: +1.5 Str - O: +1.5% ATK - D: +1.5% Melee Defense)

* Everite - (T3 - U: +1.75 Str - O: +1.75% ATK - D: +1.75% Melee Defense)

Appendix III: Gatherable Leather and Cloth

Below are the Gaterable Leather and Cloth Nodes.  Statistics are as follows: Tier Level, Utility Slot Bonus, Offense Slot Bonus, Defense Slot Bonus.  Note:  The numbers are PER PIECE used to craft the item, thus if Great Bear hide is used in the Utility Slot of an item, it will provide 1.75 Dexterity per piece used.  If the Utility slot of an item requires 6 pieces of leather, and Great Bear Hide was used, it will provide 11 additional dexterity (1.75 x 6 = 10.5 rounded up).  This goes for both the Cloth and Leather listed below.

* Canine Leather - (T1 - U: +1 Dex - O: +2% Flanking Damage - D: +2.5% Cold Resist)
* Nug Skin - (T1 - U: +1 Cun - O: +2% Critical Damage - D: +1% Ranged Defense)
* August Ram Leather - (T2 - U: +1.5 Dex - O: +2.5% Flanking Damage - D: +3% Cold Resist)
* Great Bear Hide - (T3 - U: +1.75 Dex - O: +1.75% Critical Chance - D: +3.5% Cold Resist)

* Velvetine - (T1 - U: +1 Magic - O: +1% Attack - D: +2.5% Electric Resist)
* Ring Velvet - (T2 - U: +1 Magic, +0.5 Willpower - O: +1.5% Attack - D: +3% Electric Resist)
* Plush Fustian Velvet - (T3 - U: +1 Magic, +0.75 Willpower - O: +1.75% Attack - D: +3.5% Electric Resist)

Something else I have noticed is that if you do some of these collection missions multiple times, like "Collect Coin" you receive upgrades to Skyhold Items. I don't know what the threshold of quests you need to do, just that I have received them. I usually have one advisor focusing on collecting coin or collecting resources at all times.

Certain regions have certain throne accessories associated with them that have a chance to be obtained through the resource gathering missions. Off the top of my head, you can get Chasind Throne accessories from Fallow Mire, Fereldan Throne accessories from Crestwood, Andrastian Chantray throne accessories from any of the core Orlais regions (EP, EG, EdL), and Inquisition Throne Accessories from Gather Coin.

To go about a half step more forward from Kaigen42's reply above:

When you are going on a gathering mission in a given zone, you have a chance (not insignificant either) of obtaining a throne upgrade piece from that zone.  If, for instance, you get the Chasind Throne Upgrade I from Fallow Mire (where Chasind upgrades come from), you also may get Throne 2 or throne 3 upgrades as well (if there are additional upgrades for those thrones).  The same zone will provide the upgrade for that throne type till you "max" your throne upgrades for that type.

You will only ever get one type of throne upgrade from any one given zone...but you will receive multiple versions of that same throne upgrade from the same zone.
