Kind of just repeating others, but I don't really have any trouble with the terrors now that I've got them figured out.

I find the key to beating them is to keep them as locked down as possible. ie, never give them a chance to attack.

In a situation where there is only 1 terror, I'll CC it with my rogue archer. Explosive shot, close distance, sleep. Then focus fire any other targets down. Get improved sleep on your rogue. By the time the terror wakes up, your explosive shot and sleep should be ready to go again if necessary. Once you're ready to nuke the terror, have your tank taunt it. Mage barrier the tank, and keep your ranged guys spread out. From here, it's just stun-lock, knockdown, and nuke. Use explosive shot when necessary (I like saving it for "emergencies"). Freeze and paralyze the terror with your Mage, and combo with long shot and shield bash. The combos knock the terrors down, so they're sitting on their butt while you nuke it. Use pommel strike and explosive shot in between combos to keep it locked down.

If the terror does go under the ground, you can target it while it is bellow ground if you go to tactical view. Use your archer and explosive shot ASAP. The terror might knock down its target (should be only 1 victim since you should be spread out), but it will be knocked back as soon as it hits the surface. Freezing it works well for this too.

If there is more than 1 terror, such as in Fallow Mire, I just do my best to keep both CC'd while I focus fire everything else down. Sometimes you have to eat a knock-down, but you just need to be ready for that. If you want to make things really easy on yourself, bring two rogue archers with you. Both with explosive shot, both with upgraded sleep. If you can find the rings which increase sleep duration by 30%, equip those, as the long sleep can be very handy. Just more time to breathe lol.

If you're closing portals, bringing two mages, both with dispel, can make things a laugh. The first wave of any portal shouldn't give you that much trouble. When the second wave is spawning, use your mages to dispel the demons before they even spawn. The demons show up as green dots on the map, and red circles on the screen, while they are spawning. You'll be able to see the red targeting circle, but not select if, and not see any info on the mob which is spawning. This is when you need to dispel. If you waiting until the dots on the map turn from green to red, and you can see target info when you select the red circle, it's too late!

In many situations, a well placed dispel can eliminate two demons at once. Bring two mages, that means at least two, potentially more, gone from the second wave. If you get lucky and pick the right spawn to dispel, you can end up with only a couple of the low level trash mobs left to deal with. Makes closing rifts sort of a joke.

actually i had cassandra, solas and vivi and i could dispel an entire wave.

fade rifts were basically free XP after the starting wave.

have cas spell purge the nearest in walking distance then have solas and vivi dipsel.

the fade rifts that would spawn only 3 demons in the wastes were a joke.

I'll just chip in on what everyone else is saying: it's all about controlling the terrors. I used to have a really hard time with them too until I realized that they have almost no immunities. Freeze 'em, knock them down, set them on fire, whatever. Just keep them from actively jumping around and harassing your party and they'll die crazy fast, even on nightmare.

I hate that they pirouette as they fly away from you, like they are mocking your pathetic melee that just got in range of them.  Getting maxed hidden blades on my Assassin was the best thing ever because of that. "Oh yeah, you're gonna spin around and float away? Eat 7 of me *******!"

here is Tip for u against Terror's, put ice or fire mine under ur feet & Terror can't do hes ambush where he goes under ground & comes out front of u, good defense for mages & Archer's, well that is if u decide to protect ur Archer with it, if u predict that ur archer is the next target

but do your party members use the escape skill, too?

If yes, I would learn it for all of them.

its rare when they do, Solas, i have never seen him use that, Vivien, she has used it few times, her in my party is rare

This is a "learn to play" issue, and I don't mean that in a nasty manner -- there are counter-measures, it's not a fault of the game, you've just yet to find what works. I have no problems with Terrors, on the contrary, I find them to be the easiest and weakest of the demons, especially on Nightmare.

true but there are bugs to with Tactics, it makes it harder to come out with a good tactic, i have no problems in normal fight, Dragon is a Different story, that why i use a bug that makes Dragon Fight Easy, it wont work on the area with 3 dragons, cause u can't go so far, this bug works from ferry long distance, if ur far & attack he wont attack u, that means mage is needed for that

Those demons are only dangerous if you leave them alone. They are susceptible to every stun in the game. Also, significant damage interrupts their channel. When you see them cast the green circle around themselves, hit them with Twin Fangs / Mighty Blow / Winter's Grasp / Lightening Bolt etc. then proceed to wreck them while they're helpless. Unlike Pride or Rage Demons, these guys don't seem to have much hp or armor.

that's why i started to build my Tank differently, with my first char i first wanted my tank to get all skills from Sword & shield Tree, that made Tank a bit weak in the beginning, new i took Bull Charge as soon as i could, if Tank Run my enemy's down from their feet they can't do damage no1 for few Sec, only issue Ai runs bit long with Charge, i usually stop sooner with my 2H char, but my point, skills like Charge make life & death difference in battle

I like terrors, they're a frustrating enemy if you let them be but there are a lot of different ways you can deal with them.

Notwithstanding that special terror demon known as the Envy demon... that's another beast entirely.

Envy Demon (that demon who floats on air & shoots ice beam) is my first target when i see them, cause they annoy the hell out of me :D, i make all my companions target Envy awry time

A Despair Demon that's teleporting around isn't spamming your party with its ice beam of death. Same thing is true of Arcane horrors.  Those two are enemies that appear to be anti-melee but really aren't.

Ahahaha, the ballerina move. I'm convinced they do it to show off their creepy spread-out Ice King feet.

despair demon = give cass grapple chain then have her spell purge if despair has barrier/heaven's wrath if no barrier

also making cass the party buffer and debuffer is great [battlemaster skip combat roll if you want]

also giving her a 2 hander really amps her heaven's wrath damage. she becomes a demon slayer.

Charging bull+ -> no stamina WoH

my 8 skills for her were 3 templar / both horns + grapple chain + charging bull + challenge

[rally for bosses/dragons/huge conjoined mobs ]

Greater terrors in fallow mire are the hardest enemies in game barring envy demon imo..

They are elite not just your normal types which are hard enough.

At level 6 to 8 you don't have stuff like evade.. roll etc..

And if you do u have no damaging abilities.. u can't even use a mage to dispel in fallow mire.

It was incredibly hard on nightmare as a rogue.. even when I went bow I wiped a lot.. they destroy tanks easy

I don't know about anyone else but one of the first skills I develop for my characters are the escape skills, excluding my tank. I develop guard skills first.

I can't really agree with the idea the terror demons are a problem.

They have a unique tactical problem to solve but it is solvable.

My first play through, I didn't know that the terror demon's channel broke on damage. Without that, they would be MUCH harder.

I do agree with the overall sentiment that fighting demons isn't particularly fun. It's just kind of the same thing, over and over. It reminds me a little of those oblivion gates in Oblivion. For each Rift / Oblivion Gate, some things are different, but all in all, when you interact with the rift / gate, if you've done one, you've done them all. This isn't to say the whole game is bad or anything, but when I have to do a Rift to forward the story or complete a quest, I groan a little.

I am not crying for nerfs. Actually I just switched from hard to nightmare cause

basically I want the game to be challenging.

The problem is that fighting those greater terrors (those that go under the earth and IMMEDIATELY come up again)

is not "challenging" - it is just no fun.

  • It is just unfair because it cannot really be prevented (unlike what Bioware said, running does not help in many situations
and besides: we cannot tell our group to constantly move - not to mention at full speed)
  • It makes every group tactic obsolete
  • this "greenish warning light or fog" does not help at all in the tumult of the battle with a party of 4 people

The demons slide through roots and trees and stones like nothing. It is just not fair. No group tactic works.

Game developers should create challenging enemies - yes!

but the player should be able to develop counter-measures.

Like the stalker for example - he is tough and has a reasonable tactic - but when you know this you can act accordingly.

I respect that.

Sorry, I just had to vent some air - have to go back to the f****** demon fight :-(

Ill be honest even after learning how to defeat these guys I still share your sentiment.  When there is just 1 or 2 they aren't as bad.  I learned to unload on them with all my knockdowns and PewPew.

But when you get 3 or more it made me alt-F4 several times and I didn't come back to the game for days it made it so unfun.  Escape skills aren't a good counter b/c it only saves you from 1 every so often.  Payback strike works great but only if I stack my party on my tank, which is a bad idea.  I never found this to be a good counter.

Mid to Late game Static Field, firewall, etc are great.  But early its horrible and not fun.

i know some demons are pain in the ass, but stop crying & be a man & just endure it & beat the crap out of the demons if u want to be a man :)

i have finished 3 chars, & have i ever cried about demons in forum? NO! cause this demons are meant to be pain in the ass, people would get bored fast with Zero Challenge
