You aren't the only one, although I hate it. I'll try it only if I get the Ronnie O'Sullivan's Blade, because it has a chance to cast PotA and bring your enemies together.

Even if you have sulevin blade I wouldnt recommend whirlwind. I find it only useful against larger mobs - most other ones seem to escape it, or even block it. The proc happens quite often really but usually not when you want it to. I personally enjoy when it procs and I cast earthstrike, and everything goes up in flames.

I plan to post a video tonight of the Katari, I did one yesterday - but for some reason the quality came out really poor.

To the Death is basically a boss/mini-boss skill to up auto-attack damage. The fact that it can grant perpetual guard on hit as a weak "heal on hit" is just a nice bonus.

Just to say, "To the Death" can and should be used on lesser mooks as well. Even if you kill them in one hit, every swing during their death animation will generate guard, which means you can always get full guard from it, or use it to tank a group of melee enemies. Of course it won't protect you from archers, but that's how the game goes :)

How useful is "to the death" in reference to the DC.  Does he break the range requirement commonly?

I cant really find a good strategy for dealing with him.  If I take it slow my damage is near none, and it just becomes a dodge-fest until a mess-up.  If I rush in and try to damage him guard generation cant keep up between his melee attacks and panic + ranged attacks.  Just doesnt seem to be a way to win.

Yeah I agree and I usually TtD scrubs to max guard in a few hits but it really shines for me as a boss muncher. It's not as game changing as Heal on Kill rings to be honest though as far as boosting survivability but it certainly helps. I'm torn though because I'm often left cleaning up the minions during round 5 anyway since PuGs seem to want to focus fire down bosses. So maybe TtD is better swapped out for Horn or Earthshattering Strike?

Also, getting aggro from the Demon Commander with the Katari is super frustrating because sometimes I can successfully Charge or Roll out of his attack and sometimes internet latency says "**** you" and I get deuced by the uppercut. Demon Commander is just rough for melee as far as contributing damage.

Yep, enemies blocking WW and sending you on cooldown or just escaping it is what makes me hate that skill.

I agree with this. Especially if you are running with a group that is pretty much handling the enemy. Then use To the Death often, just to ensure you are keeping your guard up.

I have promoted the Katari numerous times and I find the class very enjoyable to play, albeit risky.

The builds I have had the most success with is

Charging Bull (+), Mighty Blow (+), Pommel Strike (+) and To the Death (+)

My follow up build is

Charging Bull (+), Mighty Blow(+), Pommel Strike(+) and Earth Shaking Strike(+)

I have tried some of the other skills as well, but Charging Bull and Mighty Blow are just money with the guy. What other players said already I agree with. You have to be selective as to when you first engage a group. I often delay a second and let the Archer/Mages get some licks in before I ever charge. The Katari is not a tank. He is a closer/finisher. You have to keep moving, keep charging and keep enemies knocked down as much as you can once you are engaged.

Whirl Wind is a great fun skill, but is unreliable in MP due to the amount of times it can be blocked and you can get stymied by enemy mobs.

He is a lot of fun, especially on Threatening. To be honest, I do not like playing that class on Perilous, unless I am playing with my selected friends and we are working together.

I was actually playing Katari with one hand yesterday, it was only on threatening though; and it wasn't for the challenge it was because I was eating chips.  It works fairly well on the keyboard.

I find a plate preferable.

When eating chips off my keyboard, the grease seeps between the keys and the little crumbly bits also get stuck.

If you wipe the keys, the crud only gets further embedded. Not good.
