Average group can run through threatening in 10-15 minutes for 1200 gold.

100$ for 11500 Plat gives you 46 chests.

9x15=135 or just over 8 hours

So unless you make 50$/hr IRL they aren't even a good deal :/

Um... Large chests costs 250 platinum. 9 large chests would be 2,250 platinum. Where is your math?

Do you even Spirit Mark?

EDIT: 11,500 platinum would net you 46 large chests, by the way.

Either way,

no, DAMP does not have a sustainable 'pay to win' model.

Which is good, yes?

Also man ok so the highest amount you can buy is the 150 dollar platinum deal. It is only obtainable by first buying the 75 one. Now the 150 gives you 48 chests on average you could farm 12,000 gold in arouns 3-4 hours if your fast. So try the math on that one :)

I tried explaining this and offered easily implementable solutions such as lowering platinum price, soon after the game released. But bioware is still shooting itself in the face and still hasn't done anything about the universally despised microtransaction and loot systems. If they would just spend a few thousand dollars worth of manpower looking into and fixing up these systems they could be pulling in a lot more money.

The actual term you are looking for is "Pay to Lose", a new microtransaction system pioneered by bioware. I estimate that you have to spend, on average, $3-4k USD (definitely possible to spend well over $5k USD without getting all best items given the high randomness) in order to obtain the best items in the game, which all in all add up to be about 10 different weapons and 10 different accessories. This would also involve about 10 hours of continuous work opening chests and salvaging items.

In the meantime, I'll be dumping my money into cosmetic items in TF2. And I won't consider putting a single penny into DA3MP until they fix up a  lot of things and show they are serious about the game. Right now I am significantly more inclined to spend $50 to buy highly pixelated star trek characters in an app game than buy 20 large chests which have a high chance of giving me nothing but salvage.

You act like the pay to gamble business model that they use hasn't been wildly successful for a great number of games, long before Bioware opted in.

What's curious to me is, I don't have a $75 option. I have a $50 and $100 dollar option. Makes me wonder...

Since there is no sense of progression in this game whatsoever, paying to win isn't really a smart thing to do.

In fact, grinding to win as it is seems to be borderline smart.

Tbh, I wouldn't see a problem with chests costing less plat.  It's not so much a pay to gamble model as it is a pay to not grind model, considering you're gonna be buying those chests anyway, you're just paying to not pay gold (even simpler: pay-to-not-play which is sort of ironic).  By that logic, it does kind of seem like plat is a little pricey, if you value it by the time it saves you grinding gold.

But I'm very happy with the model as a whole so maybe the pricing of plat is right where it needs to be.  It would be interesting if there were at least sales on plat tho, whether that's a reduced plat price on chests or a reduced price on purchasing plat, I'm not sure which would be more effective.

Yeah, I unwittingly used the $20 I had left on xbox live to get chests.

Never doing that again, it was extremely wasteful and unsatisfying.

I guess that's a good thing, though?
