Prior to the release of Dragon Age: Inquisition, BioWare confirmed that they wouldn’t add any additional companion characters to the game via future DLC releases. When asked any other questions regarding future story-based add-ons for the game, however, the developer simply stated that they wouldn’t discuss DLC before the game became available. Yet now that the newest installment of the RPG series has been out for over a month, BioWare still isn’t willing to talk about potential single-player DLC, according to Dragon Age: Inquisition Creative Director Mike Laidlaw. In fact, the developer isn’t even willing to say if there are currently plans to ever create new campaign content.

“We haven’t announced anything besides ongoing support for multiplayer.”

After being launched this past November, BioWare has since released free DLC for Dragon Age: Inquisition that brought new features to the game’s online multiplayer mode. However, the only add-on content available for the title’s single-player campaign is a small DLC pack that allows users to purchase in-game equipment that was offered as part of the deluxe edition of Dragon Age: Inquisition.

While those who strictly play the story campaign of Dragon Age: Inquisition have no idea whether they will receive new content in the future, BioWare reassures fans that the plan is to continue adding content to the title’s cooperative multiplayer mode in the future. Using the official Twitter account for the Dragon Age franchise, the developer recently informed fans to follow BioWare on social sites for information on upcoming multiplayer maps that will be heading to Dragon Age: Inquisition soon.

Dragon Age: Inquisition is the first title in the franchise to feature multiplayer gameplay. As such, it is good to see that the developer plans to fully back the new co-op mode with DLC content. However, some fans may be worried that the series may be getting away from its story-driven roots since the developer is currently remaining silent about at the possibility of a new single-player DLC.

Even if they eventually release single-player DLC, I'm disappointed by his comments.

Mass Effect 4 will be the DLC. Its going to be about the Inquisitor warping into the future.

I hope this just means they want to avoid any questions about this hypothetical singleplayer DLC.

Whether that's likely is an entirely different matter.

Of course not. Mass Effect 4 will be a kart racing game.

I can't get real broadband where I live, so multiplayer is impossible for me even if I wanted to do it, which I don't.

Depressing that an aspect of gaming that I take no part in is actively taking away from this and other games that I enjoy.

I'm sure there will be some story DLC, BioWare have made some for pretty much all their most recent games.

I'd say they are between a rock and a hard place at the moment.

If they announce story DLC some fans would be in an uproar saying they should focus on making patches for DA:I to fix the remaining issues people are having or to patch in a feature some of the fan base want. If they don't announce story based DLC then people will be disappointed about that.

Then there are the decisions about any additional features that might be added to the game with DLC e.g. a storage chest - should it be bundled in with a story DLC so players have to play for it but are getting additional content too or should it be a free separate DLC or should it be a patch or even added at all?

I'm sure they will need to work all that out before announcing anything

You're making a pretty big assumption based on them not having announced anything yet.

We know from twitter that Patrick Weekes, at least, is back at work and sharing an office with level designers. Don't know if PW writes multiplayer stuff, but he sure as hell writes stellar SP content, so there's that, which is hopeful.

Otherwise, I agree with everything phantomrachie said. Bio is having to do a lot of delicate balancing of priorities at the moment, to try and avoid pissing off a somewhat over-sensitive fanbase. I don't envy them.

Mass Effect 3 came out March 6th, 2012. Not counting From Ashes (day 1 DLC) the first piece of SP DLC didn't come out until June 26th, 2012 and that was the EC. The first real piece of content didn't hit until August 28th, 2012. Hell, the last piece of SP DLC came out one day shy of a full year after the games release.

In other words: calm down.

Lets see how did the BSN react to fast DLC in the past.... oh yeah... "You ripped it out of the game because you want to charge us more money for the content we already paid for!!!!1111!!!one!!!".

Now BioWare isn't talking about DLC because they don't want that same outrage and it feels like "You aren't giving me the DLC I want to have!!!!111!!!1one!!!"

Yep.. its the Kobayashi Maru all over again.

And in case anyone counters with "Well the EC pushed back their DLC schedule!" we can go back further to Mass Effect 2. Released January 26th, 2010. First piece of SP DLC that wasn't prepared before launch hit on April 6th, 2010. The last piece of SP DLC for Mass Effect 2 didn't release until a full 14 months after the game was released.

Hell, we can go back to Dragon Age 2 as well. Game released March 8th, 2011. First non-Day 1 SP DLC didn't come out until July 26, 2011. Second SP DLC didn't release until October of that year.

This is how Bioware SP DLC has worked for years. DA:I isn't doing anything out of the ordinary.

Well, my comment was about the gaming industry as a whole.  I want to play games essentially the same way that I have since the 80s - by myself and offline.  I enjoy the ability to get add on content for the story mode a lot, but all other aspects of online gaming mean nothing to me.  As we all know though, the industry has been focusing more and more and more on that end of things, and its often been to the detriment of traditional gaming.  There are now entire genres of gaming that no longer exist as single player offline.

I hear you, I don't play MP either. But I think there's still a wealth of content out there for single-players - there was a period when that seemed to be under threat, but I think it's coming back around now. Still internet dependant, though, especially as content is distributed digitally more often, rather than on-disc. After a really long period of railing against the digital age, I've decided to embrace it, since it isn't going anywhere :)

Still, with regards to DAI specifically, I honestly don't think there's cause for concern, I'm as sure as I can be that there will be SP dlc somewhere down the line x

could be an expansion like Awakening. Could be more in-game content.

I'm patient. Honestly people demanding more DLC so damn quickly...you complained when you got day or month one DLC in the past because of the perception of it being in-game and cut content. Then you complained when there are no plans right after a holiday season to make DLC for a few months.

I know you can't make up your minds, but maybe it would behoove you to sop complaining for a bit and be patient?

The Mutiplayer is their cash cow right now. It's pretty interesting that these gaming corporations are pushing for single player DLC. Instead of just the Mutiplayer. Lets be honest. They make a ton of money off those chests more profitable to do those chests then single player DLC.

I don't remember what video, but I remember a video pre release were they said that they weren't doing an awakening style DLC but would probably be something like new zones.

While this may still be true, plans change. If there's enough demand, it could happen. Also, the line between 'expansion' and 'bloody big dlc' is getting thinner. Skyrim's dlc were quite large and added many hours. ME3's Citadel was similar in terms of adding plenty of content. So a digital only, nearly Awakening-sized piece of content may not be entirely out of the question *keeps hopeful hat on until certain otherwise*

Sure. The whole point of adding MP is that it gives you a really great ROI. But having a more-profitable product type doesn't mean that you don't do the less-profitable product types. SP DLC can make money too.

I am pretty sure the cash cow for Mass Effect 3 was the multiplayer as well and with how people reacted they probably didn't have the replay value of Mass Effect 2, but at the same time they kept releasing content for a year.  I can't see them releasing content past a year for single player for I would think most people have moved on by then so there wouldn't be enough of a profit base to cover costs.

I honestly can't understand how people are begging Bioware for DLC when there is still plenty to fix in the game's current state. For example the fact that people, including me, have played 120 hours or more on a single playthrough and still couldn't experience even close to half of the banter that's in the game.

That is actual content you have already paid for that you cannot access.

GOTY needs Patch of the year and DLC of the year. I wanted to play that game but there is so much stuff missing or just not working for now not worth it.
