What would happen if Gaspar is emperor ?

Gaspard: "No, the real problem is that you aren't me".
And that's all I need to know about Gaspard. He is selfish and power-hungry and only cares for his personal glory, while Celene actually seems to care about her subjects and the legacy she leaves behind. He seems like the worst thing for Orlais.

remind me, who burned the Halamshiral alienage? Who refused to marry Gaspard to avoid Civil War?

Celene just wants to dress the fanciest, eat the exquisitest and play the intricatest.
She thinks she's the only one to live the imperial life the empirelest.

LOL, as if Gaspard wouldn't burn an alienage. Remind me who started this civil war in the first place. There would be no civil war without the traitor Gaspard.
Celene's great mistake was not capturing and executing Gaspard when she had a chance.

I would like to hear your theories, I mean not just what is shown in the game, what you think would happen if he is on the throne for many years /and Celene is dead/. I supported Celene because he seemed to unstable and self-praising but I sometimes think I made a wrong choice. They said he is not fit to be Emperor and that his place is in the army as a general /in some dialogues/ but I am not so sure.
In my Gaspard pt, he's just a puppet to the woman who was likely the real brains behind the throne for years so I'm not worried.

He started the Civil War because of Celene's poor ruling. Considering how she failed to keep Orlais safe during the mage uprising, or caused the elves to revolt, it's not an unfounded opinion.

Why should she marry a dishonorable warmonger who wants to take her country in a completely different direction she wanted it to go? They would just fight for power until one of them manages to kill the other. Gaspard wants war. Celene doesn't. Celene's working towards a strong and prosperous Orlais (and she was successful before Gaspard betrays her and all his oaths). Gaspard thinks a war with Ferelden would solve all problems (because people like Fiona or Lambert would care). What would the "middle" path be?
Anora also crushed a rebellion of the City Elves. Does that mean she doesn't care about her subjects?

Gaspard would focus Orlais externally. No direct wins for culture and arts, but secured borders allow those to flourish anyway. Difference being they aren't government sponsored. Orlais and Nevarra still have beef over Perendale (much like the situation over Jader with Ferelden). But if the Inquisition can get Gaspard and Alistair to sit down and talk the same should be possible with Markus. If Gaspard is alive and in power it'll be a case of Southern Thedas and Nevarra vs the Imperium and the Qunari.

Dishonorable? Gaspard kills Remarche for attacking Celene during a truce. Celene, by contrast, regularly lies, deceives and murders innocent people to get what she wants.

The humans of Orlais should be if Briala has any clout.

Gaspard vs Celene huh? Man this thread needs this song:
That said, Gaspard. Celene with her backstabbing and "Gr8 Gaem" and silly ass parties... Let her die, and let someone who knows when the nation needs to be ran with strength rule. And if that turns out bad for Orlais, then well that's really a bonus.

Celene give Oralis 20 years of peace. An easily crushed Eleven revolt hardly makes for unstable Orlais. And all things considered, the mage uprising was so bad. If it wasn't for Cory, the concave likely would have brought the war to an end.
Besides, Gaspard was planning revolt before either event. Hes just greedy.

Now thats just disturbing. I think I prefer Orlais to become a better place to watch it burn.
Though I suppose, Briala using Gaspard like a puppet is the sweetest ending. Get rid of alienages and use the power of the inquisition to cow the nobles into obedience.

I tend to judge people on what they actually do, you don't lock a man away for not caring about others, you lock him away when he starts killing them

That's no different from people locking up mages for what they might do.
Granted, they don't have much choice being what they are, and Gaspard does. So I guess that makes him worse ![]()
I'm a realist. You're not getting by me with this kind of logic. Defend Gaspard how you will, but lets not pretend he gives a single **** about elves, or that he's better than Celene in that regard.

No doubt but he's been leading forces against the enemies of Orlais for decades.
Civil insurrection would be right up his alley.

News flash, that happens everywhere, and while I don't excuse the harsh punishments, those elves broke the law and suffer the same punishment that everyone else does. And it's not as if Gaspard designed it, or as if Celene tried to stop it.

I also very much doubt the uneducated and the impoverished are able to cause such uprisings. Such things always happen with outside help. No one is going to give that to elves.
