Becoming first enchanter? Yes. Seducing a much older man? Not so much. ;)

She might be as old as the Duke of Ghislain. He looked to at least be in his early 60s, though since he was also deathly ill when the Inquisitor meets him...perhaps that just a side effect of the disease he had.

Assuming the Duke was as old as he looked, either Vivienne was involved with a much older man (certainly possible) or she was close to the same age and preserving a relatively youthful appearance through magic.

Nah he's Gaspards uncle and Gaspard is 68, so the Duke would have to be in his 90's at least. Especially since he is the eldest living member of the de Chalons family

I had a friend who's uncle was 1 year older than her. Both were going to the same high-school. It was rather weird.

And my husband's cousin is 2 years younger than his sister's nephew. It's even weirder.

Madame De Fer (Defer) She is quite literally the Madame of Delay. She even has an alchemic formula by her in Skyhold for remaining young. She is possibly quite as old as Bastien.

As a woman in her late 30s Viv doesn't act like someone in her 30s.  She is much too experienced and assured of herself to be in her 30s.  We're all screwed up and dealing with mommy/daddy issues like Dorian.  LOL.  I'd put her closer to late 40s, especially since the demon is berating her for her age.  When you get into your 40s that's when you start getting raked over the coals by society and questioned really hard about your anti-aging regiment.

I'd just assumed she was old by Orlesian standards.

Alistair looks completely freaking different. But marysueliana stays the same, actually looks even better, without the help of spells or potions.

Nothing but the best for marysueliana.

Like a fine wine, indeed.

I really want to believe that she is in fact extending her life. I want her to stick around for as long as possible with her fierce, fabulous, and gorgeous self.

1. Note that what she is working with the heart of snow white is an anti aging potion.

2. Anyone who asks her age normally burst into flames.

It is not polite to ask a lady her age. Especially, a lady who can freeze you, and then smash you to bits.

I can practically feel Vivienne giving this thread the side-eye.

Now let's all go sit in the corner and think about what we've done.

Well, that would require a lady to be present, now wouldn't it?

In the World of Thedas Vol. 2 it' said that Vivienne transferred to the Circle of Montsimmard at 19 years old. In 9:16 Dragon the mages of the Montsimmard Circle went to the Wintersend Ball, where Vivienne met Bastien. So at the start of DAI in 9:41 Vivienne would be at least 44 years old. It doesn't specify how much time passed between her transfer to Montsimmard and the ball, so she could easily be a few years older.

I thought that for a bit too but it becomes very clear that in his current position and the position Viv find herself in that his death would serve her better. And the Inquisition, but I'm pretty sure that's more of a side-effect.

Wait wait wait, are you saying she wanted him to die? From what I saw Vivienne loved the Duke, sure becoming involved with him was a game move but that doesn't mean she didn't love the old bag.

People don't always age in a linear fashion. Some do. At 40, they look 10 years older than they did at 30 and 20 years older than they did at 20. Others - especially those who aren't always out in the elements - seem to defy time. For them, age is more of an exponential progression. At 40, they look more or less the same as they did at 20, maybe a grey hair or two, or a little less fullness around the face, but otherwise unchanged. But time catches up with them in their late 40s, and they may age decades in the space of a few years.

Leliana is a classic example of the latter: her face is leaner than it was, certainly. Alistair is an example of the former. He's in his early 40s and it shows.

I'd put Vivienne in her early 40s.

She apparently loved him but knew he was dying from the beginning so used his inevitable death in a plan to make the inquisition (& herself) more powerful by making his influential son & sister think the Inquisitor had desperately tried to save his life

Poor Alistair's only 31 though.

Vivienne was most likely in her early 20s when she met the Duke, that would put her in her mid to late 40s now.

Yeah no my opinion has changed a bit since then. I think she capitalized on his death (by inviting his cousin? Son? and sister right after and introducing them to the Quisie) but I don't she wanted or helped him die.

Nope.  This theory has been debunked.  In the game files, Vivienne's description explicitly states that the alchemical formula is to extend Bastien's life in order to have more time to save him.

Really?  Because I know some really, really entitled overly confident millenials who have personalities just like Vivienne and they are in the mid-20's.  I also know some people (like my brother in law) who are in their 30's and are already going to great lengths to pretend that they are younger than they actually are.

I really want to believe that she is in fact extending her life. I want her to stick around for as long as possible with her fierce, fabulous, and gorgeous self.

Amen, that would be the only positive to this crackpot theory!

I'm sorry you know these people.  You should immediately defrend them.   It is possible that they also made an alchemical anti-aging spell like Viv and are actually 50 year olds.  You decide.

That would require me to actually friend them first place and as a fellow late 30-er, I ain't got no time for that!  ;)

Vivienne is IMO in her late 40s at the earliest. She's had to have become First Enchanter in Montsimmard. That doesn't happen overnight. She had to seduce her doddering Duke lover. That takes time too.

Her codex entry says she became First Enchanter "at an age young enough to cause scandal" though.

I'd say she's of an age similar to most of the companions:  late 30s-early 40s
