I have picked up the book next to Iron Bull however, my quest log does not tell me I have acquired it, please help!

Have you gotten the other things you need for the specialization? I wouldn't worry unless you had everything you need and it wont let you fill the requisition order. But if your pretty sure it didn't register you can also buy the writings from a merchant in Val Royeaux (sp?)

Or try reloading a recent auto save. That usually fixes most bugs and glitches for me.

No not yet, should I get the other items first? And also I can't find the merchant who sells the writings in Val Royeaux, is he in a specific location?

If I remember correctly the book merchant is in the room past the fountain. Go around the fountain, up the stairs, there'll be 2 merchants in a back room. One of them sells the writings but I think they only have the writings if you didn't recruit said companion.

Ex: I went with templar and like an idiot I was all over Cullens office looking for the writings cuz well he's a templar, or was. When I couldn't find them in Cullen's tower I went to Val Royeaux to just buy it but the merchant didn't have it either. Then it dawned on me Cassandra is the templar duh Cullens not even a companion what was I thinking lol.

But yea try getting other materials first. I noticed sometimes my journal doesn't mark a quest as updated or complete but it actually is, or its just really slow at updating it. Sometimes it even repeats "such and such quest complete" over and over in top right corner. It can get pretty annoying lol.
