Golem?

In my travail of minor quests and wandering about the fields, I have now reached the village where the Golem, Shale, is located. I have to magic golem wand and I go up to him and say the magic words ... NOTHING HAPPENS!! Truly not a national crises, however, I need him as a mage to continue my quests. What do I do now? t

Lemme try to interpret this...
He can't be a mage. Shale is a warrior. And you don't need to be a mage to set him free. There's a nearby door you need to go through in order to continue the quest.

Slight spoilers!
You head into a nearby house and help some people who have been trapped by Darkspawn. One of them will ask you to do something and after you do it he will give you the password. I think you can also intimidate him into giving it to you.

You're complaining to the wrong people....complain to the OP for not taking this to the correct damn forum. They are just answering his question, which being quest help, is near impossible to do spoiler free.

OMG, YOU SPOILED THE FACT THAT THE GOLEM IS NAMED SHALE.
There's a line between what's considered legit/reasonable game discussion and spoilers. Saying that Shale isn't a mage and that you have to go through the only door on the map isn't really over the line.
