I thought it might be worthwhile to start writing up a list of where to find the various materials in the game.
Please note that some materials are LIMITED RESOURCES meaning that there is only so much of it you can collect in one playthrough!
Plan your use of such materials accordingly!
I'll be adding to this post over time myself. If you post locations, I'll edit them in as well. ![]()
I'm starting to think that the same enemy may drop different materials depending on level.
After fighting Outlaws in the Hinterlands for many levels, I am only seeing Tier 2 cloth drops, no more Tier 1.
Enemies scale to your level to some degree, but I'm not sure exactly how this works. It may be that enemy levels are dependent on area - Outlaws in Hafter's Woods may be higher level than Outlaws you encounter elsewhere in the Hinterlands.
In the future, I'd like to put together a collage image that allows you to see the colors of various materials at a glance.
For now, I've started linking screenshots of each material from the crafting screen.
If you'd like to contribute a screenshot (or have a better one) post it and I'll edit it in!

Lambswool can sometimes be found in sacks throughout the game, as with any other resource. It's not reliable, but you can get more that way.

When checking game guides online (for example here) they say that Everite can be found in Crestwood as well. If so, anyone who knows where to find it?
I don't recall finding any Everite in Crestwood, but I'll hop on one of my high-level characters and take a look.
EDIT: I've been poking around Crestwood, but I haven't been able to find any Everite. It's possible that Everite can spawn in loot containers (the burlap sack ones contain crafting materials) and that's why the guides mention it. This thread here on the BSN lists some locations for it in Emerald Graves and Emprise du Lion, but if you're low level and trying to get your hands on some ASAP that might be difficult. ![]()

There is a chest in the Still Ruins that contains 10 Everite, 10 Infused Vyrantium Samite, 10 Phoenix Scales and 1 Ironbark I think. Like all other chests you can farm it by leaving 1 item inside so at the moment you reach Skyhold you can have an unlimited number of those materials.
EDIT The chest is behind the right locked door on a table.

Right. Thanks! It's very helpful with exact locations BTW. "The Hissing Wastes", for example, doesn't say much.
I'll get the Western Approach quests running. Seems it's easier to find Tier 3 Schematics than the materials needed to make the items (maxed out, that is).
(EDIT: Wait, I was there yesterday. I'll check again - perhaps I missed it.)
(EDIT 2: No, I must have taken it yesterday. I had missed some other stuff, though. And I didn't know about the "farm" trick - although I doubt I'll use it.)

Imperial Vestment Cotton is an extremely late-game resource you can only get in quantities in the Arbor Wilds, but Sentinel Shadows spawn infinitely on the map before you enter the Temple of Mythal, so you can farm quite a lot of it with enough patience.
Lustrous Cotton becomes a limited resource after you've been to Valammar and killed the Carta Leader there, because no more lyrium smugglers spawn and outlaws spawn extremely rarely.
Also, all cloth resources limited by circumstance rather than location (i.e. basically everything except for the dragon webbing) can occasionally be found in sacks. It takes a lot of time, but they can be farmed, for instance in the Cradle of Sulevin.

Thanks for the additional information and herb locations, Ieldra!A few corrections:

I've chosen to append "limited resources" to situations where all of the enemies that drop the material are limited in quantity in some fashion - be it the completion of a quest or a static spawn. Lyrium Smuggler Lurkers are removed from the game after Deep Trouble, but Outlaws (while their spawn rate can be drastically reduced by either Deep Trouble OR a different quest) are still available. It's still possible (but time-consuming) to hunt for Lustrous Cotton without the prescience to not complete an available quest.
I don't include loot sacks because a first-time player does not know how to "farm" these (and frankly, no one should have to - artificial scarcity in a game with a big crafting system is stupid)

I was trying to keep the Rebel Mages and Rebel Templars around as long as possible to farm cloth from them (I was hoping for a couple Fade-touched pieces) but it looks like after I killed the Ferelden Frostback dragon, the mages and templars disappeared. ![]()
EDIT: Reloaded to the last save I had before killing the dragon (which was the save I made upon acquiring Skyhold) and the mages and templars were still gone. I swear I remember fighting mages and templars in the Hinterlands after Champions of the Just but before In Your Heart Shall Burn, but I can't say for sure, and I don't have a relevant save to check it.

They disappear after you do the In Hushed Whispers or Champions of the Just quests.

I farmed fade-touched Highever Weave at Valammar (enemies respawn when you re-enter the cave) and Fade-touched Silk Brocade in the Western approach (several spawn points around the fort that reset when you re-enter the region). On xbox one at least, these enemies keep spawning for the duration of the game, even if you complete all quests in the area.

I swear they were still around after that! I did reload a save to before I killed the dragon, however, and they were gone. Maybe it's once you go to Skyhold?

IIRC you get a note in your journal about how, post Whispers/Just, the rebels have 'moved on'.
It seems a bit silly that a game where the devs are imploring you to move on as quickly as possible closes down quests after certain plot points, but there it is.

Fade-touched materials will not appear until you have acquired Skyhold and Arcanist Dagna!
I have gotten Fade Touched Iron multiple times in Haven from all the iron available there. Might be a bug. Can't do any master crafting before Skyhold anyways ![]()
Never seen any outside of Haven before Skyhold however.
