Just wondering if I should take Solas when killing 'weak vs spirit' dragons....or should I just get a good spirit runte on everyone's weapons?
Do rift mage spells do spirit damage?

Only one of his rift spells does spirit damage and its really pitiful considering the cooldowntime. Solas is only good for applying 30% weakness vs dragons not immune.

Spirit runes can only be applied to staves, and RM only has stonefist which is 500% on an 8 second cooldown. A dragon will be immune to any combos the RM can create that cause spirit damage as well, so you are probably better off using Viv and spamming spirit blade against it. 300% constant spamming and bonus to barrier and guard. It's like the KE is made for killing weak vs spirit dragons.
