Honestly I may have to forfeit my intended "main" Qunari character as I found Inquisition's story best suited for an elf, especially a female elf thanks to Solas. Not to mention the back-story as a Vashoth mercenary at the wrong place at the wrong time doesn't seem to compare with the Elven origins where your keeper said what was to happen at the conclave would affect all elves (which is a better origin story)

In addition as an elf I'm not restricted to 3 armor sets (seriously, lack of Qunari armors is a pain mid to late game), and my Qunari is a 2hander which is a bugged class thanks to inability to trigger combos. Has anyone played through as a Qunari - and found it just as satisfying as the elven perspective?

I found 2h Qunari more satisfying than any elf i did, i really found 2h more satisfying than most specs tbh, an im a huge default mage fan

yeah my first playthrough was a qunari mage it was great but it didnt compare to my female elf playthrough. Romancing solas gave that extra kick to the story. And the later part of the story felt more important from a dalish/elf perspective.

I'm in the same boat.

Really enjoyed my female Qunari for the feel and implications of it all, but my female elf mage romancing Solas is quickly becoming my 'canon' DA:I run. Definitely felt like the most interesting way to go for me.

I played the qunari, I really loved it but mostly because I was bigger than everyone else. I tried to play a human and it was just too small. Elf would be smaller. Though I am interested in the Solas romance, I'm in no hurry. I've never liked playing elves and romance isn't a make or break thing with me. My inquisitor ended up single.

I felt like though, with how my playthrough went + how my lady qunari was in personality, Solas was her bestest best friend. I don't see how hard that could be to achieve under the right role playing circumstances.

If anything, the whole thing about dalish tales being twisted after so many years, the possibility that the Maker and Andraste's stories are twisted too. All that shows is how the Inquisitor is probably going to be replaced and technically forgotten by whatever stuff people make up down the line. Fully expect elf/qunari/dwarf inquisitors to be replaced by some human somewhere down the line of tales.

I really regret making my character a Qunari. During character creation I was torn between going Elf or Qunari, and I went Qunari because I thought it'd be the most unique and interesting option. I really should have gone Elf.

All that said though, race restricting Solas's romance has to be one of the worst design decisions BioWare has ever made.

I might have to try a female elven mage, and romance unknown, due to loving the mage/non-mage thing. Unknown how to do it with Sera. Maybe a Knight Enchanter with Storm magic.

Elf mage might be better for the story too, with or without the Solas Romance.

I found the elf play through a bit disappointing since she comes off as ignorant about elf stuff a but too much for my liking...she flunked her Dalish 101 course apparently. This is never an issue with a qunari since there's not much Qun lore to begin with and a Vasoth wouldn't know it much anyway.

Plus I think the Dalish armor looks ugly (at least for females).

Yet, I still go back to making elves since I prefer the Sera romance with one. It also seems like I can make more interesting looking elves in the CC for some reason.

I thought of making my female elf mage (if I decide to) one who never really paid that much attention or slowly get absorbed into the whole "Herald of Andraste" thing and that causes her to "forget" who she was.

Only part I really felt my dalish got more stuff was during the arbor wilds stuff because that has to do with your history, which apparently you have completly wrong lol. Other than that I thought each race had their moments of unique dialogue and options here and there

I guess that could work.

My elves were usually city elf runaways or Circle mage escapees so they would be similar to Pol in DA2 and he seemed to struggle with that.

The one big disconnect with me is when I enter one of the elven ruins/temples whatever and the Inquisitor starts going on about "The elves were this..." or "The elves did that...".   I figure a Dalish elf would use the phrase "My people did this..." instead of "The elves".  A big part of being Dalish is having a kinship with the elves of old and you would consider them as your people.  Using something like "The elves.." sounds like something a non-Dalish Inquisitor would say, or in my RP case, a city elf runaway who's only been with the Dalish a short time.

That's not true, I get tired of people only wanting the most plot heavy race and class, it's an rpg, make your own reasons for your character's involvement. There are dwarves and qunari in the inquisition too. I'm sticking with my qunari 2 hander as my main play through instead of my elf

No. It was one of their better decisions, and was nicely consistent with what we learn of him.

No, it was one of their worst decisions, and didn't fit with the character at all. Solas is a bro who doesn't care about race, and doesn't even consider himself an elf to begin with. Restricting it was utter nonsense and probably had more to do with BioWare being too lazy to animate other races with him than anything else.

Odd, because it was definitely one of their better decisions.

1) There's a difference between not wanting to be defined solely by your race and not caring about race at all.

2) Solas very plainly considers himself to be an elf. He just doesn't consider himself to have much in common with modern elves and rightly at that given who he is.

3) Given he already has trouble relating to modern elves why would it make sense for him to be interested in something even more foreign and awkward to him like a qunari, dwarf or human?

An Elven character works well but so does a human mage. Your from the circle and because of your noble background you were sent to the concave. Rather than it just being coincidental that you were there, you actually had a role in the peace talks. It made me feel like my character fit the story quite a bit better. Not to mention it made sense for my human mage to ally with the mages and push for mage freedom, he knew what it was like to be in a circle. Though I do appriate how you were give the option to roleplay a circle mage with Vivenne point of view.

It also feels likes Solas in general is not interested in a romance but makes an exception as he connects with a female Dalish, with Elven lore/history as a connecting bond between the two.

I haven't played as an elf yet, but yeah it does look like playing as a female elf that romances Solas gets you the most unique playthrough you can get. I played as a male qunari sword and shield that romanced Iron Bull on my second playthrough and I enjoyed it very much though. I agree on you on the armors. For good armor sets every inquisitor seems to end up wearing the same piece throughout the whole game with tiny variations.

I am unsure of what my fourth playthrough will be, I was either going to replay my first character and romance Cullen instead of Blackwall, or a female elf. Looks like elf might win.

So torn! I'm still on my first play through, as a human mage. I'm just finishing (Onto the last mission, I think, did the Arbor Wilds and the next bit so...?).

Was planning on being a rogue next because the combat seems so awesome! And I was planning on being a human or qunari and romancing Bull. But then the Blackwall storyline had progressed and it was so fantastic to me that I thought maybe a human or elf rogue to romance him to add to the drama. BUT THEN, I started with the Arbor Wilds and completely had my mind blown. Now I'm thinking elf rogue and leaning towards Solas maybe?

Sigh. I don't know anymore. What's the coolest? *LOL* I enjoy doing the sincere play through and then doing the next with all opposite choices, but I feel lost now.

Uhh...not that romance is all that matters by any means. It's just the easiest foreshadowy path is all

I'm curious what makes people think a Dalish mage is better than say a Dalish Warrior or Rogue?

I was thinking of an RP of "born flatear and was raised Dalish, so never knew she was not Dalish.
