Ok so I just looted a nice piece of armor for Sera (im a mage atm) and after I gave it to her I noticed I was able to wear the crafted Prowler armor, which looked great, but when I checked the crafting window it definitely said 'rogue only'...also the crafted heavy gear I gave to Iron Bull wouldn't be worn either.

Is there a way to remove class restrictions that im unaware of or did that piece of armor just glitch?

Some masterwork crafting materials can remove armor restrictions.

Crafting armor with Silverite (plentiful in Emprise du Lion) will remove the class restriction.  Also, using Fade Touched Obsidian or Fade Touched Silverite will allow a character to generate guard on hit.  This is especially useful for Rogues or Mages, who cannot normally generate guard.  My Knight Enchanter Mage is currently wearing a crafted heavy armor (280 Armor Rating) that generates 3 guard on hit.

Ahh so silverite is the key...question is, is it worth putting rogue or warrior armor on a mage? Or warrior armor on a rogue? Would the increased armor make up for the lack of class specific stats?

I believe that it only works if in the main/armor rating slot. So for medium/rogue armor, I think it needs to be Snowfleur or however it is spelled and for light/mage armor is Dales Loden wool.

Plus for armor, I think it only matters what you put into it for specs. Like a tank mage (though I can only assume that works because of fade shield) would use constitution, and Templar warriors need willpower for their combo damage.

Just curious what the reason would be for putting different classes of armor on other classes?  Just for the looks?  Or is there another reason that I might not have thought about.  I've crafted Battlemage armor for my mages using cloth that has 350+ armor rating.  My mages hardly take any damage now, but I'm still at level 15.  Just wondered if there is something else that I need to consider when equipping my party moving forward.

I never understood it either. I think for the inquisitor, the look pretty much the same with little variation. I personally would stick to the armors that fit the classes (Light for mages (even KE with the barrier/fade shield making them unkillable), Medium for rogues, and heavy for warriors)

Actually they can look quite different...prowler medium armor on an elf mage inq looks just like battlemaster mail on a human warrior inq, gives an arcane warrior look.which is important to some
