Which side missions should I do?

Now that ME1 is available on PS, I decided to replay the whole triology. I love ME1, but most of the side missions are awefully boring.

Is there any side missions apart from the companion quests that I should do that has an impact on the story/tells more about the would that I have to do? Like the UNC missions are just ...meh. Don´t really wanna do them if I don´t have to.

I am especially interested in the missions that flesh out the story.

Luna mission (UNC: Rogue VI) is required for unlocking specializations and is referenced in ME3.

If your Shepard is Ruthless, UNC: Major Kyle mission has unique dialogue. Same for Sole Survivor and UNC: Dead Scientists as well as War Hero and UNC: Espionage Probe. There are also background-specific assignments on Citadel - Citadel: Old, Unhappy, Far-Off Things (Spacer), Citadel: Old Friends (Earthborn), Citadel: I Remember Me (Colonist)

UNC: Listening Post Alpha, UNC: Listening Post Theta and UNC: Depot Sigma-23 provide more information on Rachni and serve as a follow-up on Noveria main plot.

UNC: Geth Incursions serves as a follow-up on Feros main plot (obtain it by hacking a terminal on Feros).

Citadel: Doctor Michel, UNC: Missing Marines, UNC: Hades' Dogs, UNC: Cerberus provide more information on Cerberus and Shadow Broker.

UNC: Asari Diplomacy ties well with ME2.

Believe it or not, the single most important side mission you need to do before you get to tME2 is Conrad Verner. If you blow off Conrad in ME1, then he won't be there in ME2 and you miss out on a very nice discount at a store on Illium.

Most other side missions only result in a slight dialogue change later, or perhaps even just an email. For instance, giving Tali the data from the Geth Incursion stuff will provide an extra dialogue option with her on Freedom's Progress. Nassana's mission results in a couple of dialogue references in ME2, but everything else remains the same.

You should consider the story you want to tell when considering side missions. For instance, I had Tatyana Shepard avoid all the Cerberus related stuff because I didn't want Tali and Garrus mentioning their "sick experiments" in ME2. I wanted Tatyana to be a pro-Cerberus Shepard. I wanted her to approach Cerberus with an open mind.

I'd like to add some more missions to the list:

UNC: Hostage -->it's done relatively fast, rewards with paragon/renegade points and a possible news entry and email in ME2.

UNC: Hostile Takeover --> rather lengthy, but you probably get to see Helena Blake in ME2, also Para/Rene-score.

UNC: Lost Module//Eletania --> You get to see Pyjaks, but the most important thing on this planet is imo the Prothean Ruin and Orb* in the south western corner.

*You need to have completed Shaira's quest on the Citadel for this to work.

Pyjaks are also great to unlock weapon trainings for subsequent characters

UNC: Missing Survey Team --> This one just because a similar encounter gets mentioned by Miranda in ME2 anyway (on or after the dead Reaper), and there is a similar N7 mission in ME2.

UNC: ExoGeni Facility --> a small bit more insight to Exogeni and it gets you some paragon or renegade points. (Totally unrelevant otherwise)

If you have the Bring down the Sky dlc, play it. What happens in ME3 depends on what you did in the dlc

Really? I did not buy the whole triology on PSN, only ME1. LEts hope its part of that one. If not, I guess I have to download it.

If I have full paragon/renegade, does it matter in Me2? Does it give my any advantages?

Thank you people! Appreciate it.

It matters a great deal. The more paragon and renegade points you import from ME1, the easier it is to pass persuade checks in ME2. You can import up to 190 paragon and 190 renegade points. I have taken to glitching up both my paragon and renegade points in ME1 so that I can import the maximum into ME2.

A demonstration of the Lorik Quin morality point glitch.

A demonstration of the infinite paragon point glitch on Eletania. Very important: to use this glitch you have to make sure you have not killed any monkeys before retrieving the data module.

I have a sickness so I have to do every mission and find every mineral when I play ME1.  But I agree with the above posts about which ones are important.

I have the same sickness. I don't know how I got it, I'm afraid it's congenital. But I'm a lot less completionist with other games so I put it on my love for the ME series.

I cannot find the assignments on my ME1 for some reason. I bought ME1 from PS Store. Is there anything I should do in order to trigger the DLC?

The wiki has a list of what missions are flagged and effect events in ME2 and ME3. Do those missions.
