"Nothing in any lore connects my people's gods to the Old Gods." Or something like that. I believe it was in a banter with Cassandra. The one where she's speculating the Old Gods were just pet dragons to greater beings, and he clarifies that, 'No, it's more complicated than that.'
I've probably got where he says it wrong, though.
EDIT: Of course, it's entirely possible Solas is lying. It's also possible he's doing his half-truth thing. *shrug*

He's most likely lying or giving a half truth. It's true no lore connects the elves of old to the old gods. That does not mean they aren't connected. That just means no lore found or spoken connects the elves of old to the old gods. He would be one to cover it up out of fear of needless retribution payed to the elves by the other races. Like how he does not want info to spread that Cory opened the fade with an elven artifact.
The more I think about it, it feels like the elves are just like the Quarians from Mass Effect.

As to the problem with anything he says. Wasn't Fen'Harel the god of 'Lord of Tricksters' as well? Not once did Solas mentioned anything about the old gods and their connections. I just finished my second playthrough (2 days ago) and the scene at the end was very short and any conversation before that with my Inquisitor who drank the well didn't reveal anything. Solas essentially lied his entire way through this game, he is not to be trusted.
Yet your second part is wrong, numerous times he mentions 'The Orb could be elven.' and he wants to save it, you think because of it's heritage like most things but we know the truth by the end.

he says it in a way that would make it sound that it's a possibility, not a absolute. Only later before Skyhold does he say what it really is and then it's only just to get the quis not to spread this info around.

on my second part. The elves who lost everything due to pride, arrogance and fear is not like an alien race that lost everything because of pride, arrogance and fear?
Sorry, I mean second part of the main paragraph. The comparisons between Quarian's and elves are quite accurate. Both have lost culture and lifespan (one set were immortal, the other set have to wear special suits) and both lost what they had (according to DA:I) because they were at war with each other.

On that.

I think by the use of magic mirrors and all other things, people will assume Elven magic is involved but when you say 'Acient Darkspawn' they'll think "Dang darkspawn, let's kill them all." I doubt anyone will hate on elves (more than many already do) because of a darkspawn doing bad things.

The fact the still hate tevintor to this day because of the black city proves they would.
