Why is Iron Bull so popular? Iron Bull being bi a big lie

So, before I picked up this game, everyone kept saying how cool of a character Iron Bull was. An article on Kotaku even suggested taking him everywhere. So during my playthrough, I took him a lot with me and on main missions and stuff, and I have to say I don't see why he's so much more popular. Maybe I was hit with a banter bug but he didn't say anything that interesting or cool or funny or whatever. Nothing that more memorable than what the other companions say.

Aside from a cutscene that plays if you take him into the fade with you, for most other missions he just has a comment on what just happened when you talk to him after the mission. Certainly not anything worth getting excited about.

Another thing that I strongly disliked and felt cheated over (like, I was promised more than what I got) was Iron Bull's supposed bisexuality. He was presented as being the companion that would be willing to bed anything (what was the exact quote, something about willing to do anyone that wouldn't break or something?). I thought he would be a kind of man-**** or something, the kind of lighthearted joker that always finds a way to make sexual innuendos about everything, yet aside from a comment about Dorian polishing his stick, he most certainly did not come off as being such a person. In fact, I would say Leliana came off as a more promiscuous person than Iron Bull since she actually tells you of her past conquests.

Maybe it's because I didn't choose to romance him? In fact, in my playthrough, he made no mention of actually having sex or having had sex with another person, male or female! And of course, what turned me off of him was the fact the he made absolutely NO hints to being attracted to men. He spends the entire game talking about women (he comments on the waitresses in the tavern, he comments on the noble women and female servants if you take him to the Winter Palace). Not once does he ever hint at being bi, at having sex with men, at being attracted to you. NOTHING! And they want me to believe he's bi?

I actually initiated the first part of the romance with him before reloading and choosing Dorian, but he makes no mention of your gender. I'm guessing the scene plays out the exact same way if you are playing a woman. I felt as if Bull was just a straight character shoehorned to be able to be romanced by male Inquisitors just to fill a quota but not truly bi.

Can someone show me how exactly Iron Bull was bi? If I had not been told he was, I most certainly would never have known it.

Well you can have sex with him as a man. Or a woman. He is sexually attracted to men and women.

That is kind of what bisexuality is (well technically he's pan-sexual, meaning he is attracted to any other genders identities beyond male and female).

Why does a bisexual (or pansexual, as Bull is often referred to) character need to wave it around like a flag to be legit?

You're disappointed that they didn't take the 'bisexuals are all promiscuous' route? Personally, having various types of bisexuals is a good thing, to me. I especially love that Josephine is bi, yet her romance arc is all about the romantic side and not the sex.

As it happens, when you talk to Iron Bull in Skyhold, he often makes offhand comments about sleeping with the barmaids, and one of the Chantry sisters in Haven comments that they were up all night doing the horizontal Remigold. Plus he can hook up with Dorian.

Edit: As mentioned above, Iron Bull is supposed to be pan rather than bi, I think.

If Bull was the kind of person that didn't make any references of attraction to anyone, and was someone you could just romance whether male or female, I wouldn't complain. But the fact that he does display attraction to women, and only women, makes it difficult to see him as bi or pansexual. How does it happen that a pansexual person only make references to women? Not only that, but where do people get the whole "willing to bed anything that won't break"? I certainly didn't see it anywhere.

He gets into a serious relationship with Dorian. Pretty sure that's enough to say he's interested in men.

I'm not convinced that we should judge people's sexuality based simply on how much of their sex life they're willing to throw around in general conversation.

But again, if he's willing to share details of his attraction to women, what reason would he have to hide details of his sex life with men? Like I said, if he was the person that didn't make any references to sex with anybody, I wouldn't complain. But he does throw his attraction and sex life with women in your face, so does it make sense that he all of a sudden refrains from doing so with men?

If he ends in a relationship with Dorian, he hardly displays attraction only towards women.

Maybe he has preference towards women. Or maybe (just maybe!) man-man relationships are far more rare than man-woman (when you tend to sleep with everyone), so he references them less.

K first answer, opinions opinions.

Second, if I don't mention how much I love *****, ass and ****** every five minutes (Though lets face it, I certainly do), am I not straight? What the **** is that? I wish more people would stop shoving their sexuality in my face. I don't give a ****.

Both of these are completely dependent on what dialogue you hear and don't hear, which with this game is hit and miss. For instance, you can overhear chantry ladies (ugh) talking about how one of them visited his tent and now she's walking funny. There you go, Bisexual.

Well, Bull doesn’t lie down with everything that’ll stay still (thank you for avoiding that bi cliche, BioWare!). Although you should listen carefully to what the two Chantry sisters in Haven chat about.

Between his adventure with the Chantry sister, his comments about various ladies around Skyhold and his belligerent sexual tension with Dorian (which gets resolved three times in one night if you keep them in the party together) I think he has all the bases covered. Bisexuals are not required to count up how many sexual remarks they've made about each gender and make sure they're even in order to prove their bisexuality. (Or pansexuality, as the case may be.)

I'm not quite sure how you can miss the fact that he's bisexual/pansexual, when he's in a serious relationship with Dorian.

And you don't need to scream about your conquests to the world to not be straight.

That's just ridiculous. He shouldn't have to tell you about every single sexual encounter he's ever had, although it's obvious that he's had plenty of them if you pay attention. He also shouldn't have to fulfill some sort of stereotype that's obviously floating around in your head.

One time I had him along in the group with Blackwell, and he made the comment that Blackwell has a "nice strong grip."

Even though I like Iron Bull, he's way too squishy to be useful to me at this time. Maybe later when I get better schematics. So I don't get to hear all his banter.

He does talk about it in the Qun dialogue.

It probably tastes different, but since it's BSN someone likely already has a presentation listing all these crucial differences. With graphs.
