I've never left hawk in the fade in exchange for stroud, I just couldn't bring myself to off one of my hawks for a cardboard cutout character, because that's all the depth I see form stroud, if we got to know the character better, perhaps my feelings on the matter might change. and I've never seen the logic of walking back all the way to the big rift in the fade (cause after you get all your memories back, you should just be able to go, right?), can't the inquisitor just open another rift with the mark? but, no we need more fake drama... *sigh*

Exactly the same question I posed. It was mentioned I believe that the Nightmare Demon could only enter through that particular Rift, so us opening a new one wouldn't change all that much. And we'd just close it after we escape anyway.

I have Nasir open up a rift that sends him outside of Adamant, forcing him to fight his way back again to the main one so he can seal it, and he questions if his decision was the best considering many more lives were lost then might've been had he just gone through the big one.

I love Hawke (and Varric), so my first playthrough, even though I done goofed on the Keep import and got Ser Default-Hawke-the-Boring, I couldn't leave his butt behind.

On my second playthrough, I totally left my favorite Hawke, possibly my favorite Dragon Age character, behind. I'm A) a sucker for heroic sacrifice (my beloved casteless Warden was also dead in that playthrough) and B) She'd probably insist on it,There's also C) if ANY of my characters could take on Blinky and the whole of the fade, it was probably my tank Hawke. She was more than capable of taking everything that came and bouncing it off her shield. She has better odds of being totally fine than Stroud.

When Thedas looks back on the Dragon Age, it will wonder why so many of its heroes were ladies who protected their squishy friends and died heroically. Inquisitor and Orlesian Warden had best be careful.

Nope.

I didn't like Hawke all that much true. But I liked Stroud even less. Plus I like Fenris too much to kill Hawke.

I didn't like DAI Hawke. First time around, I did sacrifice Stroud and thought it was a pretty easy choice. Second time, Hawke died. Third playthrough, Alistair (and it will not happen again). Now that I've had to endure Hawke in the Fade three times over, things aren't looking good for her. The only thing keeping her alive is the fact that I don't want to make Fenris and Varric sad.

1) Stroud (VA) -> Riordan (VA), plus mustache

2) Stroud, unlike his colleagues, had mastered his taint far enough to see that the grey wardens were about to screw up yet again

3) I like drama.

4) It's therapy; I didn't like DA2 too much.

5) Hugging Varric.

I sacrificed my canon Hawke for Stroud. She thinks Cory is her resposibility, and she won't let her friend die for her. Also she was so bitter in DAI it just seemed right for her to die.

I ignored the whole Inquisitor you must now choose who of us will sacrifice themselves bullshit though because it's stupid. Hawke just did it before Stroud could.

But it did break my heart to see her go. And Varric.... :crying:

I did, on my first run, for two reasons mainly, I had Alistair (and I'd do it again for Loghain) secondly, I got that stupid bug that made it so that if you customised Hawke the PC voice changed, so had to go default Hawke.

Just what it says on the can. I've yet to see anyone say they chose to sacrifice Hawke instead of Stroud at the end of Adamant. If you did sacrifice Hawke, what was your justification?

I did. Every...single...time...always. Why? I played DAII.

For those who left Hawke in the Fade there should be the second stinger: bloodied Hawke cutting his way out of the dead body of Nightmare, kinda like

I've never seen Stroud yet, and likely never will.  But I have sacrificed Hawke, same as I sacrifice the Warden a few times.  And I hope there is an option for the Inquisitor to sacrifice himself in future content.  Having all the heroes dead, makes the next hero stand out more.  If they're all alive, the next guy will always be compared to those that are better than him.

I end up killing all my absolute favorite PCs too. ;). I hate that jarring feeling when the writers have to take them back and shove them into a plot or character motivation that doesn't really gel.

I think my canon Hawke might remain dead. Firstly because the scene afterwards with Varric is so much better in that heart wrenching sorta way, secondly because it just felt right for my sarcastic jackass Hawke to do something right in the end.

I did. With my first imported Hawke, because that is what she would have done.

Well, it crippled his army, anyway.

I sacrificed Hawke on my first PT because the wardens needed to rebuild and needed a leader and because Hawke is basically a disaster just waiting to happen. Everything that can go wrong will go wrong when Hawke is around.

Thing is..Are we really killing them by leaving them there? If I recall, the choices say that they will "most likely" die..Not that they definitely would. We don't see what happens so they could survive. Besides, it's not like Bioware made us think someone died only to bring them back later. For ex, if you killed Leliana back in Origins yet here she is in Inquisition. Anders is seen among the dead if you let him die in Awakening yet he shows back in DA 2

Only time I'll ever sacrifice Hawke is if i make it FemHawke. All my Hawkes are male and I feel connected to them so I can't get myself to do it. With FemHawke I wouldn't feel the same so I could somewhat stomach it if I do it

I did. I have actually sacrificed Hawke more than I have whatever Warden was there.

I always play from an RP perspective: what would my Quizzie do, not what would I do?

I did it just to see it. Never again.

In my next play where I will import a Warden Alistair I will be picking him... I'M SO SORRY WARDEN! *SOB*

I haven't sacrificed Hawke yet. (oh wait, yeah I did when I accidentally imported a default Hawke but Varric was a champ about it) but I have two playthroughs going with special "as crappy as possible" Hawke's imported that I can sacrifice so I can keep Loghain and Alistair :D they:

-Killed everyone possible (including letting Meredith kill Bethany)

-Let Varric keep the shard and wasn't friends with him

-Agreed with Anders about murdering the Grand Cleric and all the people in the chantry but killed Anders anyway

-Sold Feynriel to the demon and let him become an abomination

-Didn't help with the bone pit or the dragon

etc...

Here is what they look like (I knew there was a reason why 90% of the eyebrows look like a joke!):

I also tend to leave Hawke behind, moreso with Stroud than with either of the others.  Personally, my thought process tends to be less "oh, I don't care if she dies" and more "she just told me to take Stroud and get out of here, and I respect her enough to listen."

I still felt really bad, afterwards, especially with the scene with Varric, but I would have felt worse sacrificing Stroud just because I didn't have an emotional attachment to him.

I did on my first playthrough, completely unspoiled. I still made that decision.

My reasoning? Someone has to deal with the Blight. And I didn't know what was happening back at Adamant, but I wanted one sane Warden to lead them back to sanity. Hawke was just Hawke.
