In my first PT I had failed to correctly export my Keep worldstate, so I was stuck with generic Hawke who meant nothing to me. So between that and wanting to make sure that Stroud would be able to rebuild the Wardens into the protective force for good they ought to be, I chose to leave Hawke behind.

For my second PT I had successfully imported my Hawke, so I left Stroud's semi-generic butt behind. Then they had Hawke go off to Wesishaupt, which was one of the biggets "HUH?" moments in the entire franchise for me. So I really dunno who I'll choose in future PTs.

I sacrificed Hawke. In the moment Hawke's argument seemed stronger. I mean yea Wardens made the whole mess in the first place, but it wasn't Stroud's doing he helped stop them. However, Hawke's point about the Wardens needed strong leadership if they had any hope of improving and being better in the future was very valid. It made me sad because I didn't have any particular attachment to Stroud, but it seemed like the right choice.

I sacrificed Hawke.

My justification is that keeping Loghain alive seemed more practical in rebuilding the Grey Wardens.

I'm planning to sacrifice Hawke next playthrough.

I want atleast one where Loghain survives. If only to troll Alistair a bit.

Yeah, the Hawke-and-wardens thing is one of those scenarios where it makes some sense in certain world states (if Carver or Bethany became a warden and/or Hawke romanced Anders and let him live), but otherwise just seems random.

I did on my fourth playthrough because it made total sense for that Inquisitor. She was a giant Warden stan and pro-Circle, whereas Hawke was a mage who (in that Inquisitor's eyes) was instrumental to helping mages break free from the Circle and wreak havoc.

But if I sacrifice my Hawke, Fenris will kill me, and Varrick will be sad. I would only do that for Alistair but he's usually king. Now, if it were Nathaniel instead of Stroud? DIE WOMAN! lol

First playthrough. Sacrificed Hawke to have Stroud rebuild the Wardens. No regrets.

I firmly believed I needed the Wardens, and I needed them with a capable leader. Stroud was a feasible leader of the Wardens. Who is Hawke for the Inquisitor? What significance does he have for the Inquisition?

I sacrificed Hawke (over Stroud), because I had a default female Hawke in DA II who I didn't really like. I'm going to create a custom Hawke for the next DA II playthrough and If I should miraculously like her this time, it would be a bummer, because Alistair will be grey warden and I could never leave him behind.

It makes sense to sacrifice Hawke especially his whole line about "Corypheus is mine!" I just can't do that though I love my Hawke! Loghain(in my save) should rebuild the Wardens if you wish to ally with them. If Hawke really meant it though he would've joined up with you instead of letting you battle Corypheus alone. Or at least show up like some characters in DAII did at the last battle. But no, he's just like peace I'm going to the Wardens at Weisshaupt. He's no Warden so what impact can he really make to garner their support? At the very least bring them over to join the inquisitor at the end.

I did. Don't really care about Hawk, while I do care about the Grey warden. I thought that without Stroud, they couldn't rebuild correctly.

Meeee. Didn't really finish DA2 only put like 10 hours into it, but my reasoning was that the Champion of Kirkwall had already played his part in history, but the Grey Wardens will need someone to lead them out of this terrible position they've left themselves in.

My first character (ultimately abandoned) chose Hawke to stay behind because she wanted Alistair to salvage the Wardens. My second character in my first playthrough chose Alistair to stay behind because she felt it was a Warden's duty.

My canon Inquisitor will likely have Hawke stay behind for reasons probably relating to the Wardens needing level headed leadership as they rebuild. It will be painful.

Who sacrificed Hawke instead of Stroud?

My beau, apparently. And he doesn't feel sorry about it one whit.

I sacrificed Stroud instead of Hawke in my last playthrough and I'm regretting it.  I let nostalgia for DA2's story and Hawke's place in it overrule good roleplaying, and couldn't let Hawke go (and leave Fenris to pine away alone).  But Hawke would absolutely have stayed behind: as he said, "Corypheus is mine."  And of course, the Inquisitor didn't really know Hawke (and certainly never played DA2!) and so wouldn't have been all sentimental about him.  He would have agreed that Stroud was the best option to lead the Wardens.

My current playthrough has Warden Alistair and Hawke partnered with Merrill.  This will hurt me a lot as a player, but I think Hawke's going to stay behind in this one!  Alistair may not have as many years with the Wardens as Stroud does, but he's still a better option than Hawke, who isn't even a Warden.

On my 2 PTs, I sacrificed Hawke. First PT was with Stroud as GW, the second one Alistair.

Well, I always play my Hawke as the self-sacrifice person & I believe that Stroud & Alistair can do more good to this world than Hawke...

And I actually love tragedy befalling my own PC. Like most my Wardens do the Ultimate Sacrifice but I hate it when Alistair force the sacrifice on himself on one of my PT (didn't do Dark Ritual, romanced him, so when I bring him to Drakon Fort he just didn't give my Warden a chance to do Ultimate Sacrifice...)

I sacrificed Hawke because in my playthrough Hawke was a mage and was very lawfully good (aside from siding with the mages in the end and all that).

As much as I didn't really feel anything for Stroud, I couldn't get the roleplay out of my head and I know that the Hawke I envisioned would never let someone else sacrifice themselves for him.

Plus if anyone had the ability to survive the fade it would be mage Hawke rather than warden Stroud.

The whole "likely" I can't help but feel is leading up to the reveal that Hawke doesn't actually die in the fade at all.

All I can say is thank God Alistair was king in my DA:O playthrough.

I literally would have stopped playing up at that point, make a new world state save and start again hahaha.

You know, the game is much more heart-wrenching if Alistair is GW :P

Or Loghain's a Warden (yes you can have Alistair King & Loghain Warden in the same PT).

I love heart-wrenching choices...

I might do it with a mage or warrior male one day. Right now, my hawke is female and a rogue.. just caught up in b.s. I'm not going to sacrifice her for some geezer.

Just what it says on the can. I've yet to see anyone say they chose to sacrifice Hawke instead of Stroud at the end of Adamant. If you did sacrifice Hawke, what was your justification?

I did this because who hawke is.

My cannon hawke was a promage zealot fully behind the attack on the chantry and then murdered his abomination of a mate to try and make a martyr out of him. He killed the arishok because he saw him as just one more tyrant suppressing mages. he killed countless people and saw mundanes as pitiful. then he went and hid in bush getting ready for a war.

I loved the chance to kill hawke because my hawke was a not a good person. he allied with Inquisition because it was being led by a mage, i he lied about hating blood magic and a lot more. he redeemed himself by choosing to stay behind.
