So far, I've got 4 daggers that are by far the highest DPS weapons that I have.

Now that I've unlocked the Assassin, I've been running around with two of them, and they have abilities that I think work really well, but I just got a new one, and I could use some help deciding what to do with it.

For illustration, here are the two that I've got equipped, that I unlocked before this weekend:

I love the critical damage bonus (works well with an Assassin) and the speed bonus when in Stealth (highly useful, at least in my opinion so far.)

I figure the poison ability is useful from time to time, as well, but mostly when fighting targets with large health bars (which I think are often immune to poison.)

Here's the new one:

I have 2 runes that I could use on it. A lightning rune, which brings the DPS to 234, and a Master Lightning Rune, which brings the DPS to 249.

I'm loath to give up the speed boost from the Hook Blade, even though it has the lowest DPS of the three, so if it were you, which 2 would you use, and would you spend a Master Lightning Rune (a pretty rare item for a newbie like me) on a weapon that's only level 14?

Those daggers aren't great. Assasins arent good. Youll have a hundred master runes in a week.

I didn't say they were great, I said they were the best weapons I have.

Don't compare them to other weapons on virtue of dps alone, daggers will always have higher dps than other weapon types of comparable level.

I figured that would be likely, but I was also accounting for the rarity, the level, and the number of additional bonuses the daggers provide.

Everything else I have is common and maxes out at level 10.

In any case, I decided to go with the Hook Blade and the new dagger, figuring the increased DPS from the new dagger was more beneficial than the poison/critical damage bonus of the Snake Blade.

I use these. Seriously though, how is it that, even with superb runes, these common daggers outclass rare and unique ones? Also, it seems to be the case for a lot of weapons in the multiplayer.

It takes time.  Some people are lucky and get great weapons out the gate.  I had like 140k gold before I ever landed a Red Birth (arguably best dagger in MP atm).  There's one guy who's gotten 6 or 7 Griffon bows.  RNGesus can be a cruel son of a b*tch sometimes.

I think it's like this: Pimp an Avenger rifle with high RoF but the individual bullet still has little punch. Especially against armour.

Keep what you have.  That isnt much of an improvement, plus stealth speed bonus.

With the Master LIghtning Rune, the DPS jumped pretty significantly, and my Assassin isn't quite at the point where criticals are happening constantly, so I dropped the Snake Blade for the time being.

But yeah, it's going to hurt when I have to give up the Hook... that stealth bonus is soooooooooooooooo handy...

As I understood it, the key stat is damage not DPS

as damage is the modifier for all other abilities.

Am I wrong?

By that virtue, the OP's daggers are:

  • 78 (68+10)
  • 81 (71+10)

the new dagger with a master rune would be:

  • 97 (81+16)

I'd ditch the Snake Blade in favour of the EoV as the stealth makes up for 3 damage.

My own daggers are level 22s putting out damage of 128 and 111.

I'm very happy with them (for now)

Rune dmg is seperated dmg. Ergo why you see it listed separately during combat. While it lends to overall dmg it's important to know they are seperate sources of dmg. Runes do not contribute to, say, Deathblow or any other ability dmg.

Good to know, thank you.
