Going to try and explain this as best as I can, so please bear with me.

I started thinking about the Imperium and The Elves. Now we all know they both hated each other in recent times and to this day.

But I did some thinking and digging.

We ARE aware that Flemeth is an elven goddess. But the thing is, she CAN turn into a dragon.

What if, the war between Elves and Imperium was based on a clash of who has rights to their Gods?

The Elves worshipped their gods as they are known in history. But The Imperium worshipped the same Gods but in their dragon form.

There are nine main Elven Gods. There are seven known Imperium Gods. However it was reviled in DAI that an 8th Dragon God was founded, thus the 9th God could be still unknown.

The Imperium wanted to prove they were the rightful “owners” of these Gods and enter The Black City. By doing so however came Darkspawn.

Maybe the reason Solas is so pissed about Grey Wardens is because the Old Gods that have been corrupted are not just The Imperium’s Gods but The Elven Gods. Thus he does not wish them to be destroyed and is angry that the Darkspawn have corrupted them.

However seeing as Solas and Flemeth are “wakened” maybe not all the Old Gods were sent into the Deep Roads. Perhaps Solas managed to awaken from his Deep Roads slumber. And since a goddess came to Flemeth she managed to escape the fate of the other Gods.

Maybe this is the reason the Elven Gods have not returned because they cannot return?

If this has been brought up before I apologize.

Anyways, thoughts?

From what I understand the Early Tevinter or their precursors originally worshiped the maker or a deity that Andraste would later call the maker before turning to the old gods later. To me though what they had in common was both early Tevinter and the elven empire were both ruled by dreamers, in fact I seem to recall a codex dealing with ancient tevinter about ancient cult that wanted to do away with the magisters and restore the dreamers to power.

The other thing though is that of the elven gods, most of them were apparently imprisoned in the beyond as well as one being murdered and another entering a long sleep. However from we understand from the lore the old gods were active during ancient tevinter going silent sometime around Corypheus and co breaching the black city after which the old gods were imprisoned in the earth.

How do you account for Forgotten Ones from Elven legend?  It's more likely that elven leadership had two factions, Forgotten Ones who later were worshiped as Old Gods of Tevinter and elven gods as known to Dalish.  Note, only Mythal seems to have dragon aspect, Solas (who was part of the pantheon) does not.

So, Elven pantheon has two factions of 'forgotten ones' and 'gods'.  They are at conflict.  Humans arrive and start worshiping the forgotten ones which decide to use them to destroy the other part of the pantheon ("war in fade fought with human hate" as per Cole reading Solas' mind).  Solas seals both factions away (somehow) which results in hibernation for the Old Gods and himself (fate of elven gods still unknown other than Mythal who was mostly dead at the time).
