Seriously, I am at my wits end with this, where in this blasted desert can I find Nevarrite?

There are several deposits near the starting camp. The first is right behind the first rock on the left, a few steps from where you begin. There are two more on a rock a bit further down (before the first rift), and one further to the left (near the ocularum). There is also volcanic aurum near that last deposit.

 

I generally make several trips to the Wastes to harvest these deposits - long before I am high enough level to tackle the actual enemies.

Just circle around rocky outcrops, there're always some metals in them.

Its hard to miss. Search around the rocks and canyons. There is a ton of it along the canyon where you start.
