I feel bad for all you people, has anyone tried getting a dvd/image from someone to see if you could install the game?

That's what I had to do in the end. using the same serial I got with the digital version, I could install the dvd version.

Ya, none of this seems to be working. The EA Access Installer seems persistent in not letting me get the game working. A friend is gonna burn me a copy of his so I can get the game working.

Thanks for the help Gebut. Wish BioWare or the D2D company would have detailed FAQs on how to fix these problems, because this is just ridiculous.

Ok, after spending a day cooling off, I went back to see if I can fix this, since I'm determined to get this software working.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the game, then tried to start up EAAccessInstaller.exe using the Command trick and that seems to be a viable solution, except I'm getting this error each time I use it

'The installation directory chosen cannot be used. Please select another directory for EA Installer'

the target directory is the Binary folder for Mass Effect 2, but it doesn't seem to want to install there and I've tried to install in other folders with no success. I now know that the core of my problem is the EAAccessInstaller program not creating the needed core file, I'm just having trouble getting around it.

*Edit

I got my game registered through the EA Download Manager, so I'm going to try and see if it will work that way. If not, I'm going to grill someone at EA.

I got this error suddenly after 15 hours of gameplay. Here's what I did, disabled anti-virus/firewall software, reinstall, tried to load game, same error, reboot and pray method; game works fine... for now. Also my last save was in the middle of Zaeed's DLC mission; I was worried the save would be corruppted somehow, but all is working fine and all my DLC content is there. BTW, I also got my ME 2 @ D2D

OK..I got it working like this;
I uninstalled the game and updated Adobe Air. Then I installed Mass Effect 2 into C:\\\\Program Files\\\\

NOT C:\\\\Program Files (x86) like it was before. Now it works fine. YAY:wizard:

AWC.dll
The game cannot launch because of a misconfiguration. Please
reinstall your game and try again.

I had this happen to me before. I ran
EAAccessInstaller.exe /s /dir “.../.../Mass Effect
2/Binaries”
with the appropriate directory and the problem resolved
itself. I tried
the same fix today and no dice.

I have the latest version of
Adobe AIR installed.
EACore.dll and
EACoreServer.exe are where they should be.

I installed
http://static.cdn.ea.../activation.air
which
did upgrade to a newer version, but still no dice.

I can confirm
that the 2 paths in EACore_App.ini point to the activation.exe which
exists in
C:\\Program Files\\Electronic Arts\\activation

I ran
EACoreServer.exe from the /Mass Effect 2/Binaries/ directory and the
game crashes...

well it was crashing. I was going to copy down
the error message, but now it's magically working again. Never mind... I guess.

I did everything that was possibly said on this list. I did more. I downloaded everything everything everything.

So, I fixed it.

http://static.cdn.ea.../activation.air

Download it to your desktop

Open the activation folder.

Go to your Program Files.

In Program Files, go to Electronic Arts.

Go to activation.

Drag everything you just downloaded into here (DO NOT COPY... just drag it over, this is the new home)

So, recap.

Program Files>Electronic Arts>activation> drag over the files >

Inside your new activation folder is an EA "activation" activator. The game installed one to your desktop, but that doesn't do anything. Click the EA "activation" activator

This will bring up the "Mass Effect 2" Sign in with EA

Sign in / up

You're in

I've been playing the game fine up until now. I don't know what happened. Just performed a fresh install and I'm still getting the error.

EDIT: By the way, I wanted to mention that I got my game through direct2drive.

Have to add that this also prevents me from playing Dragon Age. I don't think it's a D2D problem however. I preloaded Dragon Age and it ran fine. I preloaded ME2 and it ran fine all up until two days ago.

This is just an update. I happened to get it to work. I've repeated this twice so far. In the binaries folder I double clicked EACoreServer.exe and after I double-clicked MassEffect2.exe.

It's the only work-around I've discovered. I can't load the game through the regular interface as the awc.dll error pops up.

Edit: Apparantly I don't have to start EACoreServer all the time.  I was able to just use the ME2 exe for a bit without clicking the ea core server exe.  I installed some of the dlc I got and had to run the process again (coreserver -> me2 exe).  For some reason the Kasumi, Hammerhead, and Zaeed dlc all had installation corruptions.  Don't know if that was due to me installing the 1.02 patch or not.  Redownloading those dlc and I'll see if the same thing happens.

FOUND SOLUTION!!! Go to your Binaries directory, rune both EACoreServer.exe and EAProxyInstaller.exe, let windows firewall unblock it and VOILA!

it worked for me !
I just had to double click on ME2.exe after those 2 !

Thanks a lot  :)

But still I have to do it every time I want to play <_<
Great job guys !

For me this problem started with the 1.02 patch. Before that everything worked fine

So I've been playing since release with no problems.
Finished the game twice.

Today I've installed Overlord DLC and now I'm getting this error..

I've tried everything but still got the error, I've even reinstalled without the dlc and now im getting the error even without it.

I can get the game to work running the EACoreServer.exe and EAProxyInstaller.exe separatly but sometimes the game crash.. not sure if it is overlord bugs fault or is due to awc error toh..

edit: I just tried dragonage and now it is giving the same error...

About this issue is not whether you have had or not having it will follow some, but the solution is not to touch anything but follow a few steps to install the game if you're running Windows 7 and are:

1 .- Download the package with it is that you download it.

2 .- you downloaded when you close the program you used to download and install it through such program.

3 .- go to the folder where you downloaded the game and do the following:

- Select all the archives and see if properties are marked as read if so bring away the reading mode.

- Then the application file which you give to the right and say Run as administrator.

- Once installed you'll play files downloaded from the promotion of this edition and do the same operation run as administrator

4 .- if you've done the whole process as indicated you will see in the game folder that appears awc.dll file.

The problem is that when you install the game if you do not run as an administrator at the facility at times do not install some files including awc.dll since the system believes that these files may cause system damage.

Working properly to me and is luxury all, anything you remember not to install the launcher, but with the file download application that comes directly in administrator mode

I have played this game and completed it more than once on this system.  Recently I reformatted the hard drive and went to reinstall the game and now I have this issue.  I bought the digital download version from EA, using the EA Downloader.  What is different is that for some reason I do not have the file EAAccessInstaller.exe on my system at all.  I have removed (including manual uninstall) and reinstalled using the EA Downloader several times and still do not have that file.

Later this week I will be getting a new, much more powerful system and I want to make sure I won't have this problem when I install it there.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!!

edit:  After messing awhile I got it to work using the sticky about this issue in this forum.  The first time I ran the file it says to use nothing happened, but it worked the second time.  IDK why, but im not a programmer, i buy games to play them, not write them.

Same issue still, WTF you damned idiot programmers can't fix this still???? at least I didn't pay f**king 50$ for it. And here you are ALREADY releasing ME3, like I am going to purchase that when ME2 will not run on my machine. I have no EACoreServer.exe or EAProxyInstaller.exe in binaries.... wow I can't believe that a gaming company would do this sh*t, thats ok EA one of these days in the future you will crash and burn and wonder why..

This problem began occurring for me a week ago. To sum up: what finally worked for me was the advice, given in a number of older posts, to delete the contents of EACore_App.ini in the binary folder and save it as an empty file. Again, empty out the file, but don't actually delete it. ME2 will fill in the file anew, which I presume is what fixed things, but it will not create it.

After never having run in to this error before, I started consistently getting it about a week ago when I returned to play a little ME2, after it had sat untouched for a while. It had previously worked fine ever since release. The one event between then and now that I think might be related is that I installed DAO Ultimate, another EA activation game. (Both games were installed through Impulse.)

All files (activation.exe, etc.) were already where they were supposed to be at the start of troubleshooting. Nevertheless, I tried all solutions in the sticked thread except for re-installing. None of the permanent solutions in that thread worked, the only thing that did was the workaround of manually running EACoreServer.exe just before launching ME2 every time I wanted to do so. (It should be noted that downloading the linked activation.air file updated the version of EA DRM I had installed to a newer one. It is possible that this was a prerequisite for the fix that eventually did work - though I'm doubtful of this, as reports of this fix working go back over a year, to DAO.) After exhausting the sticky, I searched around and found the suggestion about clearing out that particular .ini file. Lo and behold, it worked! And as a number of other users reported after trying the trick, the newly written .ini is much shorter than the old one. Clearly, something is getting mucked up in either the .ini, or in stored EA activation files it is pointing to that then get renewed because of the fresh .ini. Either way, it seems to work. (And this is probably why re-installing as recommended in the sticky will also work in some cases, since that would wipe out that .ini along with everything else.)

I get the AWC error, and I noticed it happens after I click the button
to do the release date check, then it gives the AWC.DLL error. Then when
I try to start ME2 again, I just get the AWC error.

I did what Kloreepsaid to do, went to Program Files/Mass Effect 2/Binaries and after finding the EACore_App.ini file I did an OPEN WITH and chose OPEN OFFICE (other word processor progs should work too). Once the file opened I did a Ctrl + A to highlight ALL OF THE TEXT
and then pressed the delete key on my keyboard to erase all text in the
ini file then did a SAVE and ME 2 runs now no problem

thanks for the fix. However, I already had to buy a copy of ME2 at STEAM until this fix was posted yesterday so I won't be buying ME 3 at D2D anymore. It will either be bought at STEAM (they give updates, DX updates, ect automatically) or I'll just buy a stand alone version.
