For all you guys with an "awc.dll load failed" error.

After I tried everything technical support told me and I installed the game at least 7 times (!) and nothing worked. I decided to see for myself what could be wrong.

For anyone who recently replaced video card. It’s likely the old video card left traces of software and drivers in your program files ( for example if you changed to ATI card and have Nvidia Drivers from an old card), you can check the add/remove programs for that. Some of this old drivers and programs cannot be uninstalled because windows can’t find the Hardware.

So I download a software that cleans up all the trash in your sys includes software that don’t want to uninstall from the add/remove programs. This software is windows xp manager: http://www.yamicsoft...ager/index.html

Now ME2 works perfectly!
I hope this post will help others.

I downloaded my free version of Mass Effect 2 that came with Dragon Age 2 (360) using the EA Download Manager.
I went to install it. Came up with some kind of error.
Restarted my PC, opened EA Download Manager, said ME2 was ready to play. Okay... I started it up, pressed play, got the "awc.dll load failed" error.
I cannot uninstall the game. When I go to uninstall it, it doesn't exist. The 'software' folder does not exist. All the files that have been listed in this thread under the 'Binaries' folder do not exist. The 'EACore_App.ini' file says only this:
[EACore]
ServerIdleAutoShutdown_ms=15000

UseStandAloneServer=true
SharedServerId=MassEffect2
What 'paths' am I supposed to fix?
I never had a prompt to download Adobe AIR. I updated it, but as I cannot uninstall (or reinstall) the game it doesn't fix anything.
I'm running Windows XP SP3.

I guess this is what I get for a free game. :(

The only solution, I guess, is to delete everything and re-download and attempt installation again.
Unless you have a better idea? =/

Great . So i'm not the only one having to deal with this problem. My 1st install told me t every time i tried to play that windows had an error and would close down. I uninstalled it then reinstalled it only for it to say something about awc.dll failed. I had to reinstall the entire Ea manager to fix that. Now i'm back to my original problem. I hope someone figures it out real soon.

er, looking at the system requirements, it says "NVIDIA GeForce 7 series (7600 or better) or 8 series (8600 or better) ATI X1600 XT or better (X1600 Pro and HD2400 are below minimum system requirements)"
I have an NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS. I doubt this is what's been causing the problem, but does this mean I won't even be able to play it assuming I DO fix the problem? :(

Same problem here, I hope this gets fixed soon, because this is a lousy sequel celebration.

I have downloaded the 11 GB from the EA Download Manager and the EA Core App is only 1 KB big. Is there a way to get the missing files?

After searching for two days and not finding any help this is what I did and it's now working:
1. downloaded from EA downloader into program files (not x86) folder
2. went to program files/mass effect 2/_installer/disk1 and ran easetup to uninstall
3. went back to same file and clicked run as admin
4. installed to default folder, won't allow not x86 install
5. searched comp for awc.dll
6. moved all files in folder containing awc.dll to program files/mass effect 2, should prompt for an overwrite of EAcore_app, hit yes.
7. Now click on the mass effect 2 exe and run as admin.
Came up and is working now.
Hope this helps.

THIS.  Except I installed it from there instead and now it works!
My video card is incompatible but it still runs fine so far.  Thanks!

Hi Guys this is what I did to correct the problem.

Once you finish downloading and installing the game, uninstalled it by going to

C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Electronic Arts\\Mass Effect™ 2\\__Installer\\DISK1\\BioWare\\Uninstall Mass Effect 2.exe

Once this is done cut the complete Mass Effect folder and place it anywhere you like.

I copy it in C:\\

Then run the installer in the new location

C:\\Mass Effect™ 2\\__Installer\\DISK1\\EASetup.exe

Just in case run it as a administrator.

After the setup is finished look for the new mass effect folder created in

C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Electronic Arts

or

C:\\Program Files (x86)\\EA Games

you will see two new folders

"Binaries" and "Docs"

Just open these folders and copy  and paste their content to the same folder in the mass effect foler.

C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Electronic Arts\\Mass Effect™ 2\\Binaries
C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Electronic Arts\\Mass Effect™ 2\\Docs

*Replacing all files whe asked.

Then you can run the game, if you want to can cut the mass effect folder a paste it anywhere you like.

:)

I got it to work, by uninstalling the game and the ea download manager both which i had installed in Program Files (x86) (the download manager automatically seems to install it there), and installing the download manager in Program Files.

But i also ran the EA download manager as a administrator when i downloaded and installed the game, which might have been the reason i got it to work.

I got the DA2 free version. And windows 7.

A new twist on this: I'm getting the same error after DLing from EADM. Is this the same service as the D2D y'all are talking about? I'm going to try the workaround, but if it doesn't work, I'll just pirate it and log-in to Cerberus when I play. I'm sick of these ass-clowns using DRM that interferes more with legal owners than pirates. Give up and let us play the game, ffs.

Just downloaded the free version that you get with dragon age 2. when it said "ready to play" in the EA download manager it didnt do anything and i figured out it had to be unzipped, so i did this and now im getting the awc.dll error.

After reading that Adobe Air is needed i downloaded that and still nothing. Then i tried to uninstall ME2 and its as if it isnt even installed, cant figure out how to uninstall it, anyone help me?

--EDIT-- i tried folowing the steps posted by triscutbiscut the game now loads up, hopefully it will play. Thanks triscutbiscut : D

(repost of triscutbiscut's steps so you dont have to search for it)

This problem began occurring for me a week ago. To sum up: what finally worked for me was the advice, given in a number of older posts, to delete the contents of EACore_App.ini in the binary folder and save it as an empty file. Again, empty out the file, but don't actually delete it. ME2 will fill in the file anew, which I presume is what fixed things, but it will not create it.

And with that, PROBLEM SOLVED!

...for me, at least...
