The French Amazon post on their page that mass effect 4 release date is 2020

If that's true the possibility of a remastered trilogy increases. Though I'm a bit skeptical, from what I've got from tweets and the footage they shown, the game is not that far from release. And Bioware does not spend that much time developing their games.

December 31, 2020 to be exact. But that won't be the release date. I'm pretty sure they just put a really far away date because they don't know the real one yet.

Of course it's "wrong". This is a filler date for a coming item that has no officially announced release date.

This game will not be in development for 8 years.

The game is already playable.... I don't think it will take that long to finish. The latest would be 2017

It's most likely a temporary date set by the store. But imagine the caliber of game we'd receive should 2020 be the release date. All that time put into it, it'd have the makings of game of the century.

I'd say take every release date of december 31st with a grain of salt, no matter the year or game. that date is almost always a simple place holder.

And that's not even taking into account the unrealistic 2020 year. I guarantee you that not only will the game be out by that year, all the DLC for the game would be out by that time too.

To clarify, there's no "most likely" involved here. If this were true it'd be the first and only time in the history of the games development industry that a release date has been announced for a game five years out. No game, no genre, has a production phase that lasts 7-8 years. Not unless something is going very wrong. (FFXV, for example.) Maybe an MMO that's taking an eternity to find its footing is a couple of years out from that. That's the closest you'll ever find.

Even if the website had a more believable date -- let's go with, say, 10/11/16 -- it would still be nigh-unfathomable that a game without so much as a single official trailer to its belt would have a firm statement attached to its shipment ETA. No one knows the precise date this game is debuting yet... not even the people working on it. :)

FFXV has been in development for 10 years now too if I'm not mistaken.

Yeah, that's why I mentioned it. :P That's a case of dramatic catastrophic conditions, though. (As is DNF, of course.) Square Enix's in-house AAA scene has had consistently poor production methodology for a long time now. Longer, now, than their entire so-called "Golden Age" as Squaresoft, I'd argue. FFXV, the artist formerly known as Versus, is a perfect example... but what's been shown recently has finally, finally begun to resemble an actual game with a vaguely approaching release window... of sorts. Which is really great, for SE! :P

It's a placeholder date.  We know for a fact that Mass Effect Next is halfway through development, so five years is a bit unbelievable.

XV is a poor example. There were huge problems with the engine, and the director was involved with numerous other projects all during the last 8 years. In fact, in 2012 they switched directors and in effect started over development. So what we see now is basically stuff from 2012. It has two years of development.

Just check the term "mandatory field" when talking about databases. Then you know why there are often strange (aka false/nonsens) "information" in amazon or other online-shops - especial for products that are not yet available.

I don't expect a release anytime in 2015, but I hope that we'll at least start hearing some actual information on the game soon. Right now we know practically nothing, except that another ME game is in development, that N7s are returning in some fashion, and that we'll be getting a Mako or similar vehicle.

My guess is an E3 reveal in June, and a Q1 or Q2 release in 2016.
