I'm not sure if this is what your talking about but I thought inquisition Fiona really didn't live up book Fiona. Something was just really off about her. It's not just handing the mages to the venatori. There's just something about the voice acting and the way she looks that made me think "that's Fiona???"

Yeah, the Fiona from the book will explode her head before giving in to the Venatori. She's definitely not the wisest girl back then, but a fiery & a fighter, a compassionate one.

DA:I Fiona... <_<

I agree with this. I was surprised by how meek, imo, Fiona came across in this game. I kind of expected a badass.

I can't think of any other character that comes to mind that I don't understand or agree with their change (although Morrigan threw me off at first).

It depends on perspective. Hawke matched my character's personality in DA2, so I didn't see much of a problem with hir. Corypheus was really dumbed down though. There's so much they could've done with him re: delving into the very history of the Blight, etc. itself. The little bit we did learn about his background - mainly through side missions or the memory crystals - just made him out to be an incredibly fascinating villain.

Warden Alistair wasn't as snarky or funny as previous games, though I guess one can attribute that to him getting older and mellowing out. (And possibly his life going better, so he doesn't have to use humor to hide his misery.)

I noticed that too. I'm just guessing he wasn't written by David Gaider this time.

Well, he lowkey sounded like DAO Alistair in his war table operation.

Hawke - I understand that main-protagonist cameos are not easy to write...and it's impossible to have such a cameo without angering some people. Everyone played out their Hawke's differently, and everyone has a different idea of where life took her/him after the events of DA2. But that blood magic obsession for example was simply weird and rather unnecessary, imo. I liked my "canon" Hawke in DA2, but DA:I Hawke annoyed me.

Varric - I still like him and he had some good scenes (especially with Cassandra)...but he was simply more awesome in his homeland compared to his DAI counterpart. Varric has great chemistry with Hawke, but I can't say the same about Varric and the inquisitor.

The major novel characters (basically all of them) - They were either completely sidelined (Adrian, Rhys, Evangeline) or not developed at all in DAI (Fiona, Briala, Celene). I mean, I still enjoyed Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts for example...and I'm quite happy that I can get Celene and Briala back together again. But the only reason I care is because I've read TMA.

The thing with Varric in Inquisition is that he kinda lost his confidence and is doubting a lot, in a cutscene when you talk to him he has what it look like a faith crisis. And don't forget that he was he "forced" guest in Haven before the big boom.

There's a dialogue that triggers during his personal quest (or during dialogue I don't remember exactly) when he tell the Inquisitor that if by chance he can return to Kirkwall and forget about this, he'll do it without a doubt.

I'd say Dagna. I liked her due to her enthusiasm but in DAI she came across more like a cheerful mad scientist and making lame jokes.

Wasn't she an enthusiast cheerful scientist-wannabee in DA:O?

Personally I find her very coherent with her DA:O image I retain.

'Blood magic is wrong!" - my blood mage Hawke.

I die.

But after the Here Lies the Abyss quest I think my Hawke had satisfying closure. Yes, Stroud lived to see the day. I'm that terrible. :3

You picking blood mage specialization does not make your Hawke a blood mage in the story. idk, why that's hard to understand.
