The best solution to get over it is to create male characters in Dragon Age series if you think that there is a lack of man leadership. Seriously, I simply can not identify with female characters in the game series, thus I always end with a human-male (noble) sword and shield - the only way I could identify with my "avatar" in game. Then, it doesn't matter to me what gender is the NPC as I know that they're simply background for my own history. On the other hand, I had no problem with selection of Ferelden ruler, as I simply knew that Anora was the more competent one.
It's not about some crazy teories about misogynism, but most of the male "leaders" presented in Dragon Age were/are naive idiots (Alistair, Cailan) or withouth influence (Marlowe Dumar). To be honest, Loghain was the only one who could be named as a true leader. Despite of Cullen construction, he wouldn't be able to lead the Inquisition. There's also difference between Samson and Calpernia - the second one was better written and thought. Who is Samson, just one of the lyrium addicted, fallen men who could be as well drunk like Alistair. What really matters is fact that Bioware lacks of the idea how to construct male leaders. Loghain is the last mainstay for straightforward leaders presented in the game, the other one's (mentioned Alistair and Cailan for example) were pathetic kids in their armors pretending to be a soldiers while they haven't grown up mentially from shorts.
When I'm reading this topic, then I think: "magisters, save us"! Bring us to Tevinter Empire, there should be enough of male leadership for those who seeks them. Lack of well constructed male-leaders isn't a myth in this series, it's a fact
