The men of today shouldn't suffer for what happened in the past. They weren't the ones to do those things.

The men of today are still reaping the benefits of what happened in the past.

Just like white people are still reaping the benefits of slavery.

An eye for an eye makes everyone blind.

That would be correct. Except this is hardly an eye for an eye.

More like a head for a pinky. Where women have given their headd and men are giving up their pinky now, and crying about it like a baby.

Exactly. The Tevinter Imperium is a Social Darwinist society.

The only set gender role is the Black Divine, which is always male to spite the Chantry whose Divine is always female.

I'll bet that Tevinter's "true Divine" looks a lot like this.

Aha. I see now you are simply arguing in bad faith. Either that, or you don't know what a patriarchy actually is; nor power.

Done now! Have a good night!

Hardly, there's a reason I put 'patriarchy' in quotes.

Wha? The sex scenes in Origins were meant to be male fan service? I found them weird and kind of creepy. Whenever I see them, all I can think of is:
Spoiler
Weirdly sort of NSFW

I don't think the Enya music was for "male fan service".

Just like white people are still reaping the benefits of slavery.

Everyone is reaping the benefits of what was set up by others. Race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, creed, etc. Doesn't matter.

You can't judge someone on things they didn't do.

And who exactly are we judging here?

And in your previous comment 'suffer'. You're suffering because males aren't shown as the superior gender for once?

Poor boy.

You are saying the men of today should be judged for what men in the past did.

I haven't commented one way or the other on this. Read the thread and you'll see my first post is to you about the topic in the line above.

How about not immediately jumping to conclusions on people, yes?

Uh huh, and pretending men or white people today are somehow responsible and deserving of punishment for a past they had no part of is still ludicrous. That's vengeance, not justice.

That would be correct. Except this is hardly an eye for an eye.More like a head for a pinky. Where women have given their headd and men are giving up their pinky now, and crying about it like a baby.

The scale doesn't matter. The goal is the center, not for the pendulum to swing the other.

That said, I think men have been harmed by traditional gender roles and expectations foisted upon them for just as long as women, though far less acknowledged. Even if you think women have had it worst, and they have, it doesn't mean men's problems shouldn't be acknowledged or addressed.

The best solution to get over it is to create male characters in Dragon Age series if you think that there is a lack of man leadership. Seriously, I simply can not identify with female characters in the game series, thus I always end with a human-male (noble) sword and shield - the only way I could identify with my "avatar" in game. Then, it doesn't matter to me what gender is the NPC as I know that they're simply background for my own history. On the other hand, I had no problem with selection of Ferelden ruler, as I simply knew that Anora was the more competent one.

It's not about some crazy teories about misogynism, but most of the male "leaders" presented in Dragon Age were/are naive idiots (Alistair, Cailan) or withouth influence (Marlowe Dumar). To be honest, Loghain was the only one who could be named as a true leader. Despite of Cullen construction, he wouldn't be able to lead the Inquisition. There's also difference between Samson and Calpernia - the second one was better written and thought. Who is Samson, just one of the lyrium addicted, fallen men who could be as well drunk like Alistair. What really matters is fact that Bioware lacks of the idea how to construct male leaders. Loghain is the last mainstay for straightforward leaders presented in the game, the other one's (mentioned Alistair and Cailan for example) were pathetic kids in their armors pretending to be a soldiers while they haven't grown up mentially from shorts.

When I'm reading this topic, then I think: "magisters, save us"! Bring us to Tevinter Empire, there should be enough of male leadership for those who seeks them. Lack of well constructed male-leaders isn't a myth in this series, it's a fact

Women starts pro-women's rights thread; men chime in about men's rights and receive arguments against it, no one bats an eye.

If a man started a pro-men's rights thread, women chimed in about women's rights, and receive arguments against it, everyone would be called a misogynist, the thread would be locked, some of the male posters would be given warnings, etc.

Let's just say that, from a gender equality perspective, there are still some things that can be done for everyone, and that no one is wrong for wanting their gender to be better represented.

There's nothing wrong with criticizing the way men are portrayed.

There is, in this thread. Because it's off topic.

Open another one.

Didn't the men's rights movement begin out of the snu-snu panic of the 1970's? Is it even a thing anymore?

Gaspard is a warmonger, and not a very competent one at that. I don't have a problem with Cullen as a leader, though how accurate that word is for his position I'm not sure, I have a problem with him, the only male advisor, being consigned to the military part of the organization. Cailan, Dumar, Gaspard, Loghain... Just once I'd like to see a male leader that isn't incompetent and renowned for something besides military service.

Still better than someone who kills people because she is afraid of the backlash from some puffed up nobles. A good leader should be able to stand against such things imo. But its a hard choice all three have pros and cons.

I find it a bit too equal for women.

Women can do anything, be the leader, be Divine, be generals, etc... Men can't be Divine. There is no role that is the exclusive providence of males in the part of the world we play. Yes in Tevinter but, not where we play. Men need something that it reserved jsut for them or, they need to be Divine eligible too.

Human rights are a concept that exist outside of any specific movement.

It always baffled me, how one could want a topic to be locked or a post to be deleted, provided it didn't contain illegal content or doxxing. The bsn is a big place, the internet an even bigger one, if you don't like a thread you can always leave.

In all fairness, it was Brandon Sanderson who finished that series. But Sanderson has some severe issues with gender himself (he can disguise most of his issues by writing one Strong Female Character per book, but after you look past that character, there's some pretty nasty assumptions he's got going on).

The last book was written by Robert Jordan before his death, Brandon Sanders didn't get to change much about it. You can see the change in tone between the books he wrote himself and the one he merely finished.

And in light of just how badly we men have treated women are the past 20 millenia or so, I think we deserve a little injustice.

I have never treated women badly and I definitely won't get punished for the mistakes of other people who lived before me. So go and take your ''injustice'' elsewhere.

So you're getting punished by males not having an important role in the chantry in DA:I?

Poor boy.
