They may respawn but still, the point remains... did anybody have fun collecting these? Dragon age has some GREAT quests, but dozens of little fetch quests found on a scroll in the middle of the woods with no conversation or character development drag the whole experience down.

If they cut out those fetch quests and gave us 1/10th of the quests but make them great? With character interaction and dialogue etc... now that would make DAI truly amazing.

Varrick didn't even comment when I got them all. I just got "quest complete" in the top corner of my game. You get that a lot, drop off someone's ashes at the shrine? No need to tell the family, quest complete.

No; did not enjoy collecting them, so I didn't. Then I started to smile and chuckle at seeing where copies would appear. Cole I understand, but Vivienne? Eventually, simply trying to police certain areas led to the completion of this quest, but it did not stop the copies from appearing at all.

Ok, maybe you can answer this, I selected the tower upgrade, but I don't see the survey tool for the upgrade.  Where do you find that?

On the battlements, in front of the tower that'll be upgraded.

I never even knew this was a thing.  :o

Now I'm wondering how many other quests in Skyhold I missed out on...

I just finished a complete playthrough and well... the quests blur together after a while. A few stand out but most of the time, you do them and forget about them.

I only missed the quest you're supposed to get after using 10 elven artifacts (if it even exists), it seems it is bugged.

There are some war table missions that only unlock after certain conditions are met, for example if all cells in Skyhold are full. Seeing that I never sentenced anyone to life in prison, I never got that one. Probably no big loss.

I doubt you missed all that much.

I've also found there's a lot of meaningless fluff that just adds hours to the game. The story levels are good but you have to spend 5X as much time grinding to reach them.

I suppose it's better than the game being too short, but if you don't like a zone the game can feel like a chore.

If you truly want 100% completion, you need to play as a rogue. There are 6 codex entries and 2 loot boxes behind locked doors beneath the chantry in Haven and you never get the chance to take your party down there.

Don't the codexes come back via the missed codex merchant in VR?

Possible, I haven't checked. I'll have a look at my complete playthrough (mage). If they are in there, then I bought them in VR.

You can talk to Sera in the Haven tavern and ask her to unlock the doors.  Then when you go back there, everything will be open.

Oh? Awesome! I didn't know that... do I have to do anything special to get that option? Because I know for a fact it never came up when I talked to her in Haven.

Yeah, I've heard about Sera unlocking the doors. I've also heard some people had trouble getting it to trigger...

I don't remember doing anything special.  I remember her saying something like,"oh,you want me to go unlock those doors so you can snoop around?"

You dont have to do the quest.

You don't have to, but some people like me suffer from this thing you call OCD...

You don't actually need to find 48 though, most of them are in stacks which count as four (such as by Vivienne and Sera).

You do not get overmuch for completing it. I personally find it satisfying when I stumble across a bunch of them, but don't let completing it worry me.

The codex entries from Haven's chantry can't be bought in VR, my mage didn't have them. So you either have to be a rogue yourself or get Sera to help you out. One of those codex entries is Letters & Notes 46: Misplaced Notes, if you want to see if you got them.

You dont have to do the quest.

This point is being made in hundreds of places in this forum, but it really falls short. Even if you decide you don't want to do certain quests, you can't ignore the fact that all those notes, books, shards, pieces, objects and artifacts found everywhere simple garble down the (very short) main story line (and the maps) in a mountain of white noise.

I discovered after a while that I became so tired of finding notes and texts that almost appeared to be randomly generated, I had to take breaks to avoid starting to ignore reading through it all. Not even with the journal as a help did it provide a good overview of all the concurrent quests. A well-thought main story line that slowly sucks you into the hidden main plot is always a far more powerful experience than running around like in the Forbidden Oasis feeling like Mario Brothers looking for shards.

In order to trigger it you have to talk to that elven in the library of the Skyhold.. don't know at what moment of your campaign tbo.

I did it right before the final mission but I suppose you can get it earlier, since I have barely talked to him a couple of times (and I don't even know why....)

And what's the reward? A crappy dagger?

48?

That's just ridiculous. The shards are bad enough: 22 on one map, 15 on another - the boredom becomes crushing.

Do people enjoy doing this in MMO's?

I'm not so sure that there aren't actually 48. When I did the quest I ran around and around, looked in every nook and cranny and managed to find 45 without reloading Skyhold. I could never find the last three, so in order to finish the quest I let them respawn.

The reason I think there might actually be 48 is because at least one of the locations, the Inquisition vault of gold, requires an Inquisition Perk to open up. Might there be other locations that are game choice dependent?

fetch quests are schnit! Especially ones like the picture pieces where they are just by chance.  You can get all pieces then one is in some weird area you never went to or missed because you didn't hit the dumb seek button in that spot, and no hints, you just won't complete it.

I'm with you OP, I hope they add some better side quests into the maps through DLC or something (though that's unlikely) or at least just never do this again.

Again, this is nothing new unless you forgot about finding 10 qunari swords or 10 garnets in the previous games.

There were a lot of notes on the ground type quests in DAO, they were called chanters board quests in DA2 they were crap you overheard. You also had things like Admirable Topsider run off a note or the even odder Asunder where you find a bag of body parts and drag them along for absolutely no reason to a destination you have zero idea where it should be.

You dont have to do the quest.

It's replies like these that are both unhelpful and completely missing the point. The issue isn't that there wasn't a single fetch quest in previous games (which is obviously not true) or that DA:I shouldn't have a single fetch quest, it's that every DA:I quest you can do out in the world (non plot/special companion areas) is shallow, unsatisfying, and half the time doesn't even try to engage you. Previous games had some fetch quests but they were situated in areas you were already going to for the main quest, and they were balanced out by plenty of more interesting quests with multiple resolutions, dialogue options, people to talk to, and even cutscenes. Saying "if you don't like the side quests, don't do them" ignores the fact that you need to grind dozens of them to get enough power to progress the story and is as helpful as saying "if you don't like the new combat, just run away from every enemy."

Exactly. We pay gaming companies like Bioware to entertain us, not to bore us with these unrelated annoying fetch quests to the point where you feel so overwhelmed, and frusterated that you just want to grab a wad of your own head hair, and go on a hair pulling frenzy, and become bald like Solas.

If we the consumer don't want fetch quests added into the game then the gaming companies should abide by our demands, and quit with the nonsense. We are Bioware's bosses after all. We invest in their company by purchasing their products. Without us Bioware would crumble and go into bankruptcy. Everyone in Bioware would be seeking new employment without our investments in their products.

Bioware should be reading each one of our posts, and take notice of it because it seems as if these fetch quests are becoming far too common to overlook the shortness of the mainquest line.
