Hi guys,

After endless hours of Dragon Age (probably around the 200 hours mark and 2nd playthrough now) I must finally give up and admit to this: I do not understand how the crafting works. Don't get me wrong, I understand how to actually craft items, I just don't understand how you're supposed to know in your mind whats supposed to be better and how to tier and categorise items. I would be eternally grateful to anyone who could put some sort of substance behind these questions, if at all possible...

- You go to a vendor, you see an armor schematic that you think potentially, perhaps you may not have. You look for any indication of the tier, nothing there. Then you look at the number of materials requested for crafting, but you can't recall how many are needed for whatever. So how do you know if you should buy it or not?

- How can you categorise updates? Ornate, firm, solid, etc... how am I supposed to remember which one's better than which?

Is there a guide anywhere? Am I just being a supermoron and just can't get this?

Thanks in advance for any help.... I'm at the end of my wits!

Gowardo

You aren't a moron. We aren't given the tools to know what we need to know in order to craft things in the best manner. It's frustrating that they didn't give us the information we need to even know what we are buying. I dislike when a game is made harder because of vagueness. There is no legitimate reason for withholding information that could make the game more fun. There is a lot of needless frustration in this game due to lack of information.

I don't even try to understand that crap. Crafting is annoying as hell. Money's pretty stupidly easy to get so if you care to just buy everything.

I know on PC if you put your cursor over the item in the buy list a tooltip will show up saying what tier the schematic is when buying them. Not sure how or if it works on consoles.

Although they still don't seem to list other important stuff, like if the schematic's item is restricted to only certain races.

When you go to actually craft, it'll also list the tier of the item just below the list. Not that it helps a whole lot when buying them.

I enjoy the crafting, but I agree that the plans can be very vague.

I definately haven't found money easy to come by though.  During my first playthrough, I was generally very conservative with my spending, and I still never had more than about 20,000 at any given point.  And that goes very fast on some of the better items and schematics available.  I kept expecting to get to a point where I was finding large stashes of gold while exploring, or through the war table, or drop items that are valuable, but it never came.  a few dozen gold here or there.  Maybe 100 if you're lucky every so often.

Nah, the game doesn't give you much to go on. Even your blacksmith in the undercroft doesn't give you any meaningful advice.

All I do is look for the highest numbers.

After over 250 hours, all I can tell for sure is that there *is* a system.  We just aren't given enough info to make sense of it.

Well thanks a lot for the replies. I'm a hell of a lot happier now that I know I'm not alone, at least. I guess...!

Thanks :)
