Yeah the video game industry is littered with so many failed movie/tv show/comic based games that many have started to question if it possible to make a good game based on a popular already established franchise, however if games like Arkham Asylum teach us anything all it takes is a dev team who are passionate about the source material and some effort to make something truly great, the reason most of these games fail is because these games are obvious cash ins with no passion behind them that rely mostly on their name to move copies, which is a shame because there are so many great franchises out there that could have so much potential in the video game format, all it takes is a dev team that truly understands the strengths of the franchise and is passionate about making a game to do it justice.

What are some franchise you would like to see make a triumphant appearance in video game format?

Personally for me it is James Bond 007, not the Daniel Craig Bond but the true James Bond, I am talking guns gadgets and misogyny. Sure there have been a lot of James Bond games released over the years but the fact they are all linear action games is a travesty and a massive waste of potential, think more along the lines of Deus Ex, the thinking mans shooter with more reliance of subterfuge, gadgets and detective work than out right action and explosions, surely somebody has to be able to recognize the potential here?

I'd love to see another good 007 game just because I really like the whole espionage thing but I would disagree that they have all been a "massive waste of potential", because Goldeneye 64.

Personally I think I just want to see more sci-fi games. I can't say that I care a whole lot as to which franchise gets picked for it, so long as it's good.

For the purposes of this thread, let's just say Firefly(of which Google tells me there is a game in development but it's iOS so it doesn't get to count here).

I'd love to see a TellTale-esque game set in Joe Abercrombie's First Law series.

I could see an RPG taking place in the setting of Terry Pratchett's Discworld.

I knew someone would bring up Goldeneye 64 eventually, regardless I stand by my comment.

Don't get me wrong I played and enjoyed the heck out of Goldeneye 64 back in the day but that being said while it would not be fair to call it a waste of potential due to the limitations of the console it was released on and the relative infancy of the video game format Goldeneye was not a good game because of how it leveraged the James Bond licence and adapted the themes to gameplay but rather more because of it's incredibly fun (at the time) multiplayer mode, I just think the licence has so much more potential than a good multiplayer FPS with a James Bond skin.

I can agree that it didn't do much with the licence and kind of just built a FPS around it. Just seems like too good of a game in general to group up with the others =P

Either way I'm a sucker for espionage so I'd love to see a 007 game that uses all our modern tech to make full use of the licence rather than just building standard FPS games around it or trying to cash in on Goldeneye 64 nostalgia.

The Shield. Make it a darker more grittier L.A. Noire.

Saga would be pretty cool as a videogame IMO

Suicide Squad could make a great tactical rogue-like game with the permadeath feature and random teams.

The Office, but the game has to be written by George R.R Martin, and it has to be about Dwight's rise to power through political manipulation and assassinations. Call it "The Gaming of the Shrute."

The comic series Orc Stain. Heard of it? Of course not. It takes place in a bizarro world inhabited by orcs, nymphs and rhino vaults. The main character is an orc with the ability to spot weak points. The Orc culture would make for an interesting backdrop. It would sort of be like a cross between Shadow of Mordor, Zeno Clash and Borderlands.

I would post a picture but the whole comic is pretty much NSFW.

Also, I would love a RPG-esque Tolkien game taking place in one of the many regions unexplored in the books (Harad, Rhun). Less emphasis on the combat and more on the adventure elements.

This pic reminded me that I really do want a Futurama game from Obsidian after having played Stick of Truth.

House of Cards would make an for interesting Telltale-type game.

I'd also freaking love to see Burn Notice, Firefly and GitS: SAC  games take design cues from Dragonfall. Not necessarily for the turn based combat (though it would be great for GitS and Burn Notice IMO), but the mission structure, writing/dialog, "runs", etc.
