Is this somewhat possible?  I read a lot on here about Rouges and Mages as the real dps types but I am trying to figure out how to do something acceptable without the Reaver stuff.  Seems the stamina runs out real quick with Reaver.

Go 2h champion or 2h templar. I personally enjoy 2h champion because it makes me tanky enough to where I am able to play without tac cam on nightmare while allowing me to focus on dealing damage. To the death is also a lot of fun on tougher enemies and makes boss fights a breeze. In General though if you want to do damage, rogue is by far away both the best in terms of damage and fun.

I imagine a 2handed templar with coup de grace - divine wrath and spell purge will likely instant kill most mobs even in nm as long as they can be stunned. issue is that its burst damage with a longcooldown rather than sustained damage like archers or dagger rogues.

About stamina and reaver. I find that the circle of pain ability. It just sucks up too much stamina. I can't find a use for it. Its strange given all the benefits it gives, but If I can't devour who cares how much its buffed.

Use upgraded charging bull before devour and it will be free that way. Makes reaver a lot more useful :)

2H champion is a real beast. Just use Walking Fortress + Whirlwind and you're an invincible instrument of death against multiple enemies for 8 seconds.

Or when dueling bosses, use To the Death and you'll always have max guard while dealing great damage.

I find it really difficult to play a warrior for too long without getting incredibly bored. Tanking is frankly tedious, and is handled well by the computer anyway. Damage dealing? You lose out to Rogues in a big way. Versatility? You have nothing on a Mage.

It's strange, as I usually love playing as a Warrior in hack and slash or roleplaying games. But here? The other options are just - to me - more fun.

True, a 2H Champion is a great damage dealer. They do not do as much damage as a Rogue to a single target BUT they can stand in the middle of the fray and cut things to pieces.

The last room in the Temple of Pride in the Oasis, where you fight a demon and archers in a room full of rotating lightning traps? A Champion can stand in the middle of those traps and cut them all into pieces in nightmare.

While a 2H Champion cannot kill ONE giant as fast as a rogue, they can take on multiple giants together with the half dozen of crazy charging broncos in Emerald Graves and slaughter them all gracefully.

2h templar is your best bet. Demons and enemies that can get stunned die instantly with your combo. Your 2h abilities for dragons, arcane horrors or any enemy that is immune to stun. Stamina wont be a problem if you have bull rush upgraded.

Funny I found this to be the first rpg I could actually play a sword and shield fighter without it being boring :P

Out of curiousity, what games were better? Are you just referring to mmorpgs? or are their examples in this genre?

2 hand templar is best bet. Unfortunately the entire standard 2 hander tree is broken for detonations and they actively gimp your damage more often than not. Sure you can try to stick to shock but with so many other effects all over the place happening at random you're going to wind up detonating one that gimps your damage.

At least with templar spell purge will detonate both stun and sleep and you can actually cause the stun detonation on your own with the wrath of heaven spell purge combo. Oh and spell purge auto detonates just by virtue of removing any buff if upgraded. It truly is one of the best spells in the game.

I run with war horn and horn of valor with horn of valor rings for permanent uptime, charging bull, in get a free roh cast out of it hit purge combo, then hit war horn to fear folks in static cage. By then charging bull is ready to go and I start the pain chain all over again.

Only thing templars need is for blessed blades to be fixed so that it gives us 15% damage as it says.

want more fun?
Find both instances of masterwork walking fortress 3s and 5s.

I've whirlwinded with 2-3 layers of walking fortress in a mob at once.

6 - 9 shields surrounding me as i spin to win.

it's just funny.
It's even funnier if you walk up to a two mobs fighting it out. [venatori and darkspawn i think]
Walk into the middle.
activate counter-strike and just whirlwind until everything is dead.

I did that on my solo 2hand champ NM and i put the controller down and walked away after saving the game.

"Well, that happened."

with counterstrike active and having hidden blades passives,

EW EW EW EW

energy barrage + hidden blades masterwork vs static caged enemy getting whirlwinded in an abyss = only dragons and some bosses survive

I'm curious how it gimps your damage. My understanding is that it will simply just not do the detonator damage (1dmg instead), but your skill would still do damage. Considering how easy the game is on Nightmare it seems that fishing for detonations, even if they worked, doesn't really matter.

i'm 2H Templar, Bull's Charge & Whirlwind 2 of my mane skills what i use most of the time, when cass keeps Pride busy i just cut him with a saw/Whirlwind as long as i have stamina, the final 2H skill what makes burning rift to the ground, the final skill, it suck's, i had it & i reset skills cause of it, & from 2H tree upgrade only Whirlwind & that skills that has icon of Fist smashing in to the ground (forgot skill name), its just this are best from 2H tree & other skills do not have that good upgrades, this 2H tree build can be used with awry Specialization

Whirlwind is decent to take out dragon especially if you have the stamina upgrade. Never ending spin helps to put some decent damage on them couple with the a jar of bees and mark of rift.

I watched all the Reaver build vids on Youtube.  It looks like the damage is like 2k or 3k per swing.  Now granted these are all level 20+ with all the best weapons.  I just don't think I could pull it off without dying a million times.  I am gonna test out how I play a Reaver with Bull and see if I can even pull it off.

if it is reaching 2k+ per hit it means they below 50% Hp. I Have already done a reaver playthrough, now doing templar and he is lvl 16 and so far having an easier time on my templar. I can kill groups of mooks faster, and dragons i manage because i do not die. Killed sandy howler the lvl 20 dragon at lvl 14.

Bull is weak, u get better test results if u get all ur specialization stuff tone save & then talk with trainer & let him make u rever, if u don't like it load &...

with load u load to where u have no specialization

personally i don't like rever, last skill takes HP instead of stamina & other rever skills take to much stamina

Zyph....what is your build like?  I am level 13 (15 points to play with as of now)  The hardest thing for me is deciding where to put em.

Charging bull and iits upgrade first, then templar specialization without their upgrades to start with and finally getting mighty blow and whirlwind. This has been the core of my build so far now im upgrading my templar skills, mighty blow, whirlwind. Eventually might get pommel strike but managing well so far. They reason i am not sure about pommel strike is one too many wasted points to get to it, secondly if i can stun something i will use WOH for that. But as i said my character still lvl 16.

That sounds interesting.  How does it play?  Like, what does a typical fight look like?
