i only use firestorm in room 5 and have no issues with the key dropping. other abilities cause it btw not just firestorm. pull of the abyss and mighty blow will cause key issues.

mostly it's the stupid dogs. we had what we thought was a key glitch and then we found a dog half way in a god dam building....

I had the key glitch happen twice in a row one match, and I'm now fairly certain that it's not just firestorm, it's specifically firestorm on dogs that is the leading cause of the glitch.  When ele's use firestorm on any other enemy I never encounter the glitch, but using it on any of the canine enemies will almost always cause the glitch.

Please pay attention the next time you encounter the glitch if there are dog enemies, because in my experience that has been the only real constant, with firestorm merely exacerbating the issue.

We're all pretty sure it's the dogs that are causing the key glitch. Paired with ANY power (not just firestorm) that causes knockback. So, you could just as well blame it on alchemists or hunters with mines as the elementalist.

Interesting...didn't know it was a specific bug trigger... although I have noticed that in general AOE's seem to come before a crash (static field, firestorm, that Arcane warrior black hole thing, etc).

And yes it does seem to often be dog enemies (or the giant ogre fellow) before most of the key not dropping bug. I've also seen the bug on 'targeted enemy' rounds where everyone has to basically hammer on the avatar of the already dead target until the avatar actually disappears from the screen.

Seriously, instead of boycotting elementalists and flooding the forums with threads like this, uninstall the DLC. Move on with your life.

From my experience any aoe that applies status effects can bug out any of the four legged beasts. Had it happen with firestorm, walking bomb, wrath of heaven (and/or spell purge), and once with elemental mines. It seems knockdowns can lag beasts into the walls where they probably drop off the map. It just happens so much with firestorm cause it's such a large woe and has a better chance of knocking beasts into walls.

So my advice is not to use any stuns/knockbacks on floors with beasts.

Why are people flooding the servers with elementalists it's bugging all the games, maybe it's the Christmas rush people who don't know this.

I got flamed and ignored when I posted this a few weeks back after DLC came out:

http://forum.bioware...y-not-dropping/

Firestorm is not the only cause, but a big one.

(I was Corgun on forums, finally changed my forum name to match my game name after hmm 2 or 3 years since some people seem to consider themselves geniuses when they figure it out)

Lol aah got to love it and should i point out i use my ele 90 percent of the time i play. But yet to run into the key glitch using fire storm. Lol something about this thread reminds me of a very racist idea ( we all know the one). Should i also point out that the key glitch is random but can be reduced by killing the animals before the normal mobs.

I think all evidence points to firestorm being by far the main culprit of triggering the key drop bug.

There is no question.

The combination of dogs and firestorm. And Shadows and firestorm.

It can happen with other abilities, but.

Likewise, i agree on knockdowns, but it doesn't event have to be in a wall.

Had one last night:  it was a Darkstalker (little dinosaur thing?), standing in plain view, but no health bar, and immune to damage.  We could still apply status effects to it (the text would flash up), so cold + Mighty Blow set off a combo on it, but it wouldn't die.  We were moving it around the map by attacking it, so it wasn't stuck per se into terrain.

Threatening, Zone 4, Tevinter Ruins.  Party was Katari (me), Necro, assassin, archer(?).

No red dot on the radar either BTW.

99% of the time I see the key glitch its a dog/wolf in a wall somewhere. They all spawn in the same place as a pile of dogs on top of each other. Some get pushed into the walls from it. Others have their ass sticking out of the wall somewhere.

I've only seen the invincable animal thing happen a rare few times and one time it appeared to happen we were still able to kill it even though it was untargetable and no damage numbers showed or anything. But thats when it was a canine of some sort. When its a mini lizard they seem to be invincable.

The only solution I've seen for this that has worked is to cast walking bomb on it actually. It has sometimes killed the invincible creature, but also sometimes not unfortunatly.

Have you considered uninstalling the DLC?

I'm curious as to what you're getting from it that's worth the key glitch and all the Elementalist rage. Are the new maps that good? The armour doesn't even work, so it isn't the new armour, obviously.

I won't even install it until they fix it. Play with me, Elementalists, I don't hate you!

The problem is not caused by casting Firestorm, but instead by casting it on creatures (dogs and other creatures in general). If there are no creatures in a given level, then it is fine to cast it.

I think most people have understood this by now. Firestorm is usually one spell all elementalists have in common though, and the frequency of the bug happening once you have dogs or other similar creatures on a map, is close to 100%. You dont know what you'll face once you start a PUG-match. And when you play PUGs you cant really control what other people choose to do... And for it to happen is just a frustrating excersize in patience. Leaving a game makes you loose all progress as well.

I have thought about removing the DLC several times but I'm thinking it's harder to find games without it. Can anyone confirm or the opposite?

I never installed it, and I haven't had any real problems finding games.

I'm usually in a lobby on the first try, within 30 seconds. 33% of the time I have to search 2-4 times to get a lobby, but it still generally takes less than 3 minutes, unless I decide to leave the lobby for some reason.

Not a problem at all Torkelight.  After too many no key drops with the DLC I went ahead and uinstalled it.  Plenty of players available.  Nice thing is the key drops 95+% of the time in vanilla DAMP.

As its my favorite class, I'm enjoying all of the Ele love here. I just got my Elementalist portrait and now I'm closing in on the banner and I haven't had any troubles. Like so many here said, just save that firestorm for 5/5 or use with caution. I find it can create great cover to give you the time and space you need to safely revive a fallen ally when a fight turns sour.
