Sera is given the exact copy of human body in DAI. So when you ask for other elves look like her, that's effectively asking for the elves to be turned into humans, proportions- and size-wise.

They'd become literally humans with pointy ears, since they'd be now also lacking the height difference from DAO, and their faces were also changed back to human-like, with the DA2 features removed.

Personally I like the "beautiful humans with pointy ears" thing. Their culture and history is what makes them interesting, not having a mutated and deformed body and face. If they want to make frog people or goat people, they should make them much more stylized and call them something else.

Personally I'm bored of it because "the elves are humans except better at everything" has been done to death. DA elves are about the only ones that made me actually want to try playing an elf -- the shorter stature put them at natural disadvantage (we subconsciously associate height/size with power) and combined with the backstory it made them a refreshing experience. So seeing all that getting undone is like, "meh, I've already seen that everywhere else". And I have no interest in characters who get the elves are just amazing on top of the PC is just amazing, the latter is usually annoying enough on its own.

I wouldn't say no to them being short again, but the backstory should be enough. Plus there's nothing saying "elves are better at everything." Like I said, if they wanted to make a freaky new race they should (it worked great in Mass Effect), but don't call it an elf.

The better at everything is already present in DA to some extent, with the elves of the past being apparently superior magic users with incredibly long lifespans and empire spanning entire Thedas linked with magical mirrors connecting to other dimensions etc. It's just subverted with the whole "if only it wasn't for these meddling kids humans, and alas now we can't remember any of our **** anymore".

While there's some widely copied conventions there's no actual, mandatory rule about what the elves should look like. So they're perfectly free to pull the 'our elves are different' move in this regard.

In my opinion they did a pretty bad job at "our elves are different" (for reasons I've explained repeatedly in this thread) as well as seeming to change the look of the elves JUST to be able to say "our elves are different" at the next fantasy writer's hipster convention.

*Ran out of popcorn* :(

Also, I want to add that there's a reason I refer to Multiplayer's Keeper as 'Turkey Legs'. It should e pretty self-explanatory if you look.

I'd be okay if the body shape is a choice? That might take more work if it is also applied to all races, of course. I think female elves are fine as they are, they are a different species so I don't want them to look similar to humans except for the ears. I didn't like the DA2 look apart from Fenris. As I stated in another thread, I like that they're of small stature and fairy-like.

Sera was raised in Denerim on bread.  The Dalish live in and on the forest.  They don't have the same carbohydrate intake.  Once again, they are not starved.  They look exactly like how hunter gatherers ought to.

I have to disagree with that. The Dalish look unhealthy. Tribesmen like the Masai do not. Actually the elves being of similar build of the three tribesmen in that photo would be an improvement. They are closer to Sera's build than the Dalish Inquisitor.

I'd be fine with that.

The Elves in DA:O were of about the same build but slightly shorter. Sticking to how they were portrayed in the original game would not be a flaw.

Having human-sized human-proportioned elves wouldn't be sticking to how they were portrayed in the original game, though. That's like saying making human-sized qunari would be sticking to how they were portrayed in the original game (because they had human proportions there too, just happened to be a head taller)

I have to disagree with the notion that the dalish look unhealthy. They are small boned and small of stature, but not unhealthy.

My dad is 6'1, my mom was 5'10 and my brother is around the same as my dad-- I stand barely at 5'1 and am of small stature, people who saw me with my family always assumed I was "sickly". Maybe seeing such lithe beings around thicker body types gives off that impression, but I don't think they look unhealthy.

It seems to be a pretty common assumption, unfortunately.

Look at the Maasai.  There are humans who are naturally built like the Dalish elves.

These women are slim and have muscle tone. The Elven women in DA:I are cartoonishly slim with no muscle tone. Their arms are literally just narrow cylinders attached to their shoulders. I don't get how you can't see the difference...

I agree. This is not some special and well thought out design; it's just weird, creepy, and lazy. Scaling the human body smaller sideways (aka squishing them) doesn't make them look lithe or slim it makes them look deformed and cartoonish

Exactly. Persistence hunters (the most ancient form of hunting, where men chase deer for miles until animal collapses from exhaustion) are thin but are built like marathon runners. They've got some muscle definition, as would be expected, and do not look like the Dalish. The Dalish look like they are all bone.

The Dalish needs to start to eat those damn Halla instead of worship them, they have an exquisite meat, perfect to gain proteins for their bodies.
